Riversdale Lodge is set in the heart of Symonds Yat overlooking the River Wye. Riversdale Lodge was built circa.1910. It is a six bedroom house that has in it's time been a small hotel - hence it has 6 bedrooms and six bathrooms!

Riversdale Lodge is on the banks of the River Wye and has direct access from the garden to the river and the riverside path that leads down to Biblins Bridge and beyond.

The Lodge has an outdoor swimming pool (open from 1st June to 30th September) and has great views of Symonds Yat East and the rapids. We accept weekly bookings as well as bookings for midweek (Monday to Friday) and weekends (Friday to Monday). Due to the nature of the property we do not accept all male or all female parties (or close to this) - Riversdale Lodge is for mixed groups and families. The prices for the bookings are shown on the price list.

The layout of the lodge is:

Lounge - with log burner and three sofas, a pool table, a football table, a TV that can be used for games consoles (guests would need to bring console) and also a plasma with Sky HD tv (including all sports)

Dining room - with two round tables, one seating 10 and one seating 4

Kitchen - with breakfast bar for three

Utility Room - with washer / dryer, second sink, drying area

Bedroom 1 - Double with ensuite shower, washbasin and toilet

Bedroom 2 - Two singles (& travel cot) with ensuite shower, washbasin and toilet

Bedroom 3 - Double with ensuite shower, washbasin and toilet

Bedroom 4 - Double with ensuite shower, washbasin and toilet

Bedroom 5 - Two singles and a bunk bed (for two) - with plasma tv and dvd (no tv signal - just for dvd)

Bedroom 6 - Downstairs double with no stairs from front door with ensuite shower, washbasin and toilet

There is also a family bathroom on the first floor with roll-top bath, washbasin and toilet

We allow one or two dogs - that have to stay on the ground floor (Bed 6 is downstairs)

Immediately outside the house there is a patio area with 2 wooden benches, two chairs and large table.

There is parking for up to 8 cars in the large car park which is at the end of the drive near the house.

The pool is heated and open from 1st June to the end of September. It is 3ft 6" sloping to 5" maximum. It is a private pool for the house - not shared with any other house. Guests will need to bring pool/beach towels for use by the pool. The pool uses an eco-friendly heat transfer system to heat the pool - it relies on the heat of the air to transfer to the water (therefore if there are periods of cooler weather the pool will not necessarily be that warm).

From the car park there are two shallow steps down to the house level, and then one step up into the house. Bedroom 6 is on the ground floor so one or two persons with limited mobility could use Riversdale Lodge.

We are dog friendly and allow a maximum of two dogs per stay. There is a charge of £35 per dog and we do not allow the dogs upstairs in the house or on the furniture! Bed 6 is downstairs - and it has a wooden floor so okay to sleep with you dog/s In the same room. We do ask that dog owners clean the lawns of any doo doo's before they go.

Outside of the school holidays we accept bookings for weekends or midweek breaks.

A weekend is from Friday 4pm to Monday 10am.

A midweek break is Monday 4pm to Friday 10am .

“Brilliant home in stunning location”

Went for a weekend and had a brilliant time. The wider road to the property is open so there was no difficulty in getting there. The house really feels like a home and is full of character. We had fabulous weather so went for lots of walks but there was lots to do at the property too as there was a pool table, trampoline, swimming pool - even a zip wire! The garden is a little slice of heaven too and we had lunch outside while enjoying the uninterrupted views of the river and countryside. I would definitely recommend (I told my sister and she has booked for later in the year). A personal niggle is when there are loads of bedrooms but you can't all eat together as there aren't enough chairs or the dishwasher has to go on after every meal because there simply isn't enough crockery - I am pleased to say that you will not have that problem here. Thank you to Chrystel, the owner, as she is managing a fabulous property and couldn't have been nicer.

“Beautiful house in amazing location”

We really enjoyed our stay at Riversdale Lodge. The house is spacious and comfortable. The downstairs sitting room is huge with three comfy sofas, big TV and pool and table football. There are lots of board games. The kitchen/dining room is also big with two large dining tables. It’s well equipped and there’s a utility room for laundry etc. I loved all the space - it made our stay there very relaxing. Upstairs the beds are comfy, linen is nice, bathrooms are new. There is one bath and otherwise showers. The garden is also lovely - a zip wire, trampoline and nice pool which we were able to use although it was so late in the season (we’re keen swimmers and don’t mind it not being very warm so the owner kindly left it open in October). The view of the woods on the other side of the valley is incredible. You can walk straight from the house along the river and up into the woods to King Arthur’s Cave. The walking on this side of the river is well marked but less busy than the other side. To get to the other side on foot you use Biblins bridge. Unfortunately the pull ferry right by the house wasn’t working due to COVID. There’s direct access to the river from the garden or out of the drive and along a lane. If we came back in summer we’d ask the owner to improve the access from the garden as it’s a bit overgrown with nettles but the other route is better in winter (less muddy) so it suited us fine. The house is very easy to relax in - although clean and well furnished it’s not too fussy so we didn’t have to worry about our kids or dog messing things up too much. It was also really well insulated and warm which is a big treat on a rainy half term. The owner provides useful info about pubs, walks, supermarkets etc. Communication with the owner was great and she was flexible about us arriving slightly early and leaving a bit chaotically late. We hope to return when it’s warmer and the weather’s better!

How do damage deposits work?
