Hi! We travel often for work and usually stay in other Airbnb rentals around the world. From these experiences, we bought and renovated the Farmhouse as a full-time vacation rental with all the little details we expect (and are often missing in other places). Basically, we created our dream Airbnb vacation stay.
We are Airbnb SuperHosts and hope you'll read through our 5-star reviews to be confident in your booking. The Shenandoah Valley is our home and we love to share the undiscovered pleasures of the area. We have Mountain Ranges on either side of the Valley with a gorgeous River running through it.
Our nightly price covers accommodation of up to six guests. Kids are always welcome, and we're very pet friendly (with prior approval). Just let us know who you're bringing.
House:
We have lovingly rehabbed this 1850s solid brick farmhouse and turned it into a modern home. The house is on a secluded 2 acres with plenty of trees and views.
The remodeled farmhouse has been updated with all conveniences, including central AC, heat and high speed WiFi. This is not a rustic cabin, but some seriously awesome luxury. A great way to enjoy the outdoors. If you have any special needs, just ask. We live just ten minutes away.
Bedrooms:
The Farmhouse can sleep up to six people, but also perfect for a couple who want a quiet getaway. There are two bedrooms. The master suite has a king size bed with new pillow top mattress and flat screen TV. The guest bedroom has a twin convertible trundle bed (converts to a King) that comfortably sleeps two with storage.
There's also a separate Writers Cabin with a queen bed that sleeps two, work desk, flat screen TV w/ Netflix, wifi, and A/C + Heat (need to use the house bathroom). We gladly provide all bed linens and pillows.
Bathrooms:
We have a full bath upstairs with an Americast soaking tub. Downstairs, there's a half bath powder room with washer/dryer. We provide soap, shampoo, towels, and washing detergent.
Living room:
We like to spread out on two couches and mid century recliner. There are plenty of board games, playing cards, novels, kids books and backlogs of magazines to read. Or hook your iPod up to the speakers and play music on the stereo.
Kitchen:
The kitchen is fully equipped with an eight person farm table and antique soapstone sink. You’ll have everything you need to cook a holiday meal, or just make coffee + toast and use the microwave for simple reheating.
If you need anything we don’t have, we'll do our very best to accommodate. We provide a lot of "starter stuff" so guests don't have to over-buy for short stays (creamer, sugar, honey, coffee, condiments, cooking oil, charcoal, bug repellent, etc).
Entertainment:
The house and yard have high speed WiFi access. Lounge inside to check your email, or wander outside to research bugs and birds on Wikipedia. Both flat screens are hooked up to Apple TVs. You can watch unlimited shows and movies on our Netflix account, or sign in to any of your accounts to watch what you want (NFL, NHL, HBO, MLB, iTunes, Hulu, etc).
BBQ:
We custom designed this brick outdoor BBQ to double as a grill and fireplace. We love to have a meal on the Adirondack chairs while looking out over the hills and the friendly herd of cows next door. Sometimes the cows even come up to the fence to say hello. We always leave you with some starter charcoal, BBQ tools, and plenty of firewood.
Night time star gazing:
The BBQ grill then becomes a firepit so you can sit, watch the stars, and listen to the night sounds. Because our nearest neighbor is a quarter mile away, this is one if the best areas in Luray to see the Milky Way without light pollution.
Outdoor Space:
There are two acres of land so you’ll have plenty of room to play a game of soccer, toss the frisbee or play other games from our equipment box. Read a book at at any of our three shaded picnic tables. Explore the stream running along the property when the rain has come. Hang out in the hammock and watch the sun go down over the hill. There is also a covered area to park motorcycles.
Neighborhood Lake:
Lake Arrowhead is just a short walk down our quiet gravel road. Maintained by the town of Luray, you can pay a small fee to rent canoes, paddle boats, or enjoy the beach area with a lifeguard. If you have your own boat, you're welcome to put in (but no motors since this is the town's reservoir). There's also a trail that winds around the lake for a great hike.
Luray Caverns:
The Caverns are world famous since they were discovered over a century ago. The family who runs the Caverns have done a great job creating an inspiring, tasteful experience. It's a perfect place for an afternoon trip underground. There also plenty of other activities for kids like the giant maze and jungle gym. The Pioneer museum showcases demonstrations on how the first settlers in the area lived.
Shenandoah National Park:
We're only five miles from the entrance to the Shenandoah National Park. We buy a day or week pass into the park to drive the 110-mile Skyline Drive. Or choose from the approximately 100 day hikes (of varying difficulty) that show off the Park's many waterfalls and vistas. We have booklets describing all the hikes. If you want to get 5 feet away from a deer, you'll be able to. Sometimes it's fun to eat at Skyland on top of the mountain where you can see the all of Page County below.
Shenandoah River Outfitters:
A short drive across Luray will bring you to the river outfitters where you can rent a canoe, kayak or tube for hanging out on the Shenandoah River. A must-do activity when the weather is nice. You'll never forget the times you spend on the river. If you have your own boat, you can use a number of public boat landings.
Valley Health Fitness Center Gym-
A quick 5 min drive to East Luray Shopping Center, the gym is a great place for a workout. $5 for a day pass will allow you to work out on all the machines, treadmills and use free and fixed weights. We love it there!
Small Town USA
Luray is a quintessential small American town with a number of restaurants from fancy dining to burger joints. There's also a coffee shop w/ wifi and the Main Street bakery making fresh goodies (ask for Chuck!) Every Saturday morning from May-September, there's a great Farmer's market in town to pick up local produce and meat from area farms. The indoor Willow Grove Farm Market sells locally produced food all year long.
Several pizza places deliver to the farmhouse. For quick needs, there's Fairview Grocery just five minutes from the Farmhouse that has sandwiches, beer, wine, snacks, and homemade donuts (only on Saturdays, they are amazing).
Treasure hunt at the antique stores, or grab outdoor gear at the outfitters. The 6-screen movie theater, a true local treasure, is open for matinee and evening screenings. Uncle Bucks is the sports bar where locals enjoy the game (stays open till 1am every night). Several groceries stores and Walmart will provide you with everything you need. There's also the Wisteria winery that's open most days to enjoy a local wine tasting. The Luray Zoo is on the edge of town and famous for rescuing exotic animals. Perfect for kids who want to safely get close to animals (like goats!).
A newly renovated hospital w/ a 24-hour emergency room is just 10 minutes away. We provide a binder with maps of everything close by and are just a text away if you have questions.
