Craufurdland Castle Tower House is one of Scotland’s Oldest Castles but has newly refurbished interior enjoying fantastic views over the Ayrshire Countryside and set within grand and impressive grounds. Towerhouse is located within the tranquillity of the ancient Craufurdland Estate, with the village of Fenwick, and the town of Kilmarnock within a mile of the two Estate gates. A mere 20 mins drive from Scotland’s biggest and most vibrant city, Glasgow, you can enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside in the morning, followed by the vibrant and lively city in the afternoon, with its numerous excellent restaurants, bars, shopping, museums, Art Galleries and every type of recreation and culture.

Craufurdland Estate offers the perfect outdoor space to enjoy the beautiful Scottish countryside with a wide variety of outdoor pursuits, including Mountain Biking, walking through the woodlands and fly-fishing.

The Towerhouse experience starts as soon as you arrive at the commanding Entrance, flanked by imposing gate pillars, with views down the half-mile tree-lined avenue which leads to the castle. Keep your eyes peeled for the resident Roe Deer which often bound across the drive, and admire ducks, Heron and leaping Trout in the beautiful Craufurdland Loch.

As you reach the end of the avenue, you can wonder at the strange arched shaped ‘Bee Boles’ set in the wall of the Castle’s old Coach house and Stables (now a private house), before driving down to the castle, whose castellations and tower only appears over the tops of the Rhododendrons as you enter the gardens of the Castle. The imposing Gothic Façade of golden sandstone stands looking over the large gravel driveway which leads to the expansive front lawn with a Ha-Ha wall at the end of the lawn separating the grounds from the field beyond.

The entrance to the Tower house sits discreetly to the righthand side of the castle, within the 13th Century Tower, complete with castellation’s, balistraria and machicolation.

Entering the Hall of the Towerhouse is like stepping back in time, with the beautiful; sandstone Norman Vaulted ceiling, huge Flagstone floor. Pass through the arched door at the end of the hall to access the Kitchen, Dining Room or Main stairs, with the vaulted utility room and WC off to the right of the Hall.

Basic Herbs, Spices, Tea, Coffee, Sugar and Milk supplied to start you off.

Consumables such as toilet paper, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, bin bags, bathroom cleaning products etc are also provided.

Thanks very much for your review, i am really pleased you enjoyed your stay here and we played a small part in making memories. We did put a lot of thought into how we furnished the castle both decor and kitchen to blend the historic building and modern equipment we all need. Thanks again for your feedback. Adity

Response from the manager
Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you felt that the Castle was not as clean as should it have been, I wish you had let me know at the time when we spoke on the few occasions, whilst you were here, as I could have dealt with it with the cleaners at that point. I will talk to our cleaners about this - the bath and the hair in the bath is unacceptable, however, it is difficult to deal with it retrospectively. Being a country location, we do occasionally have issues with cobwebs and with the high ceilings and skylights as it it’s not easy to get to them and we need to get scaffolding to reach them. We do these 3 times a year. We had to take the tumble dryer out as request of the Fire Brigade due to number of appliances going on fire currently nationally. The only condition that we would have been allowed to keep it, was if we could guarantee that the lint was emptied every time it was used. Being a self-catering property, we unfortunately cannot guarantee this so were asked to remove it. I am sorry about the dogs, you should have been informed of this at the time of booking and our pet policy clearly states this. When we first started out we did allow dogs in Drawing room, which is on the same floor as most of the bedrooms and unfortunately many people abused this and allowed their dogs on the furniture and the beds therefore we have taken the decision that dogs are only allowed downstairs. Thank you for your feedback. Regards Adity
