A quiet linear village, with its cottages and farms set alongside a single road. The view down the village from Townend Cottage is wholly delightful, and surprisingly soft for a former lead mining village. Ancient sycamore trees, village greens and the old red telephone box all add further character, (and mercifully free from both yellow and white lines). Small cottage garden with seating area in front cottage. Parking for one car in cottage grounds, plenty of parking area in front of cottage.

Great little cottage, ideal for a quite weekend for two. Spotlessly clean and well presented. A friendly welcome from the owners. Well located for looking around this lovely area. Great local pub for a pint and a bite to eat.

“Perfect place for a peaceful getaway”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2014

We had a lovely time at Townend Cottage and can't rate it highly enough - it was really well equipped, immaculately clean, comfortable and had a lovely feel. The welcome pack with local eggs was a lovely touch! Sheldon is a lovely village - really peaceful with a great local pub, and very close to Bakewell, which is a lovely place to visit for the day. The cottage is well situated if you like walking or cycling, or just like being in the great outdoors. Thanks for a lovely break!

“Brilliant Cottage, wonderful village, great location. Delightful !!!!!”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2014

This is the most delightful holiday cottage I have ever stayed in, it is clean, cosy, picture perfect!! the location is fantastic, with a lovely quaint little pub in the village, which serves real ale and home cooked food. We enjoyed wonderful walk after wonderful walk straight from the the cottage door. Such beautiful countryside and local scenery. And then there was the CAKE! Wow!!! what a treat!. Eggs from Lindsey's own free range hens, and lots of little extras all around the cottage. And a very very comfy king size bed. I would highly recommend this cottage to everyone! Thank you, and we can't wait to return!!!

“Delightful Cosy Townend Cottage”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2012

This cottage was delightful, warm, spotlessly clean and comfortable with every gadget you could ask for. We had terrible weather and to be able to come back to the warmth and comfort was lovely. Lindsey had a lovely cake waiting for us with milk and eggs and extras such as shampoo, conditioner etc in a small pack. There was a dishwasher, washing machine/dryer, every utensil mentionable even a hot water bottle and sewing kit should you need it. The cottage is only small but typical of surrounding buildings but totally adequate for a lovely stay. The pub is just over the road, so quaint and friendly, we loved it. The whole stay was wonderful.

“A peaceful holiday retreat in a lovely Peakland village”

Reviewed 15 Jul 2011

A return visit to Townend Cottage, which certainly did not disappoint. The cottage is very well appointed and equipped and a perfect base for exploring the Peaks. There are many wonderful walks in the vicinity, especially since the tunnels have been opened on the Monsal Trail, and walks along the railway and return along the Wye are highly recommended. It is lovely to sit outside and soak up the atmosphere after a day's walking and the thoughtful touches of the delicious cake, milk, eggs, toiletries and bath robes are much appreciated. Already looking forward to our next visit

“lovely clean compact stone cottage”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2011

Experienced a first rate friendly helpful service from the owners who live next door. Always there if needed but never intrusive Townend Cottage is a very welcoming compact property built of local stone & with ample parking. It's location is ideally situated for walkers & motorists alike with many pretty villages & towns scattered about it within easy reach. The surrounding countryside is quite beautiful. The bedroom is really cosy. The whole property was spotlessly clean. Ample kitchen utensils were provided. Lovely personal touches like toiletries added the finishing factor. There was a large welcoming homemade Victoria sponge awaiting our arrival. With a bit of restraint this could last the week & leave a slice or two for the drive home ! . We were a little apprehensive about the size of the cottage initially but it proved adequate The only thing missing is a private outside rear sitting area..& maybe one or two extra curtains. But..........!!!

“Wonderful cottage and wonderful holiday.”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2011

Very welcoming hosts who had left eggs, milk and homemade cake to welcome us. Scrumptious cake, lovely, very well equipped cottage and beautiful area for walks. The cottage is set in a beautiful farming village and is the perfect setting for a quiet relaxing break.
