“Welcoming, relaxing and comfortable house in beautiful surroundings” We were a group of eight, comprising two grandparents, our daughter and son in law and their two children, ages six and four. We all had a wonderful holiday in this lovely house at Pontarnaud. From the moment of opening the front door we felt welcomed and comfortable. The generous 'food parcel' gift of bread, cheese, wine,eggs etc was much appreciated. The house is very spacious, stylish and clean and the gardens and patio area are a delight: secluded and very well looked after. The pool is pristine and was enjoyed by the whole family every day. The surrounding area is beautiful and I think maybe a little quieter in High Summer than the Southern Dordogne. We found plenty to do. Brantome is a beautiful little town with many places to eat, some overlooking the river and family canoeing seemed very popular. We also visited even more beautiful St Jean de Cole and the castle at Bordeilles, which was a great hit with our grandchildren. However the house at Pontarnaud was so nice we were often happy to stay put! The owner always responded promptly to emails when booking and prior to the holiday sent very detailed and helpful information about the property and surrounding area. Thank you to the James family for their hospitality. We would not hesitate to recommend this property.

“Magical property, totally amazing views. Loved everything about it!” We rented this property as a group of three families (16 of us in all!) & from the moment we arrived we could not have felt more at home! The house itself is simply stunning and has been renovated/re-decorated beautifully. It was spacious and very clean. All of the guest rooms were a delight and the added touches of iPod doc's & universal phone chargers in each room were brilliant. We stayed for 3 weeks and the first couple of days the weather was a bit miserable but none of us had ever been to a house that provided so much in house entertainment!!! There were 9 children in our party and there were so many cupboards stuffed full with boardgames/toys/jigsaws etc that our little ones were always happy!!! The outside dining areas were well thought out and as there were several we got into a routine of breakfast at one, lunch at another and then, depending on the heat, dinner at a third!! Obviously, the pool was a hit with all of our children & the views are breathtaking. One of the most amazing things about this property is it's location. With all of us coping with busy lives and living on main roads!!! The quietness was total bliss! Maybe upto 5 cars driving passed (on a busy day!) We just loved being away from everything and therefore totally relaxing. This is the perfect property to just kick back and relax! We ate (too much!), drank (far too much!!) and possibly relaxed more than ever before on a rental holiday. We would definately recommend La coutancie and will be hoping to return again in the next few years! Also, a thanks to Robert for all his assistance and efficiency with booking/paying and for proving us with so much local information, it was very much appreciated. “Heaven is a place in France” We are a family of 27, ages ranging from 2 years to 55 years with several teenagers inbetween. Le Grands Chenes is perched in amongst the most beautiful coutryside, lush, green and with views to die for, it couldn't possibly have been a better 'fit' for our family. Room after beautiful room, full of homeliness, charm and character and fully equipped with everything you could need to make a self-catering holiday work easily. The large pool (which believe me can take 26!, the jacuzzi, sauna, bikes, table tennis tables and volleyball net, ride on toys, pool toys, not to mention a large flat area at the front of the villa to play football (a must for our boys) mean't that there was not a single moment when we weren't all fully entertained. The local area is teeming with things to do, go-karts, canoeing down the Dordogne plus a most beautiful riding school at the end of your drive all at prices which pleased and surprised us. Bergerac is a ten minute drive and is just what you hope to find in a French town, full of quaint old buildings, fabulous street cafe's to eat and drink in and an ice-cream parlour which no less that 60 different flavours. Without exception every member of our family would not hesitate to recommend Les Grands Chenes, we would like to have booked for the same time next year but alas and not surprisingly August is fully booked. We will be back again.

“Charming, beautiful house!” We loved our stay in this charming, beautiful house! It was the perfect destination for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 daughters - of 11 and 13 yrs). Having a decent-sized pool in the private garden was great and we appreciated the large parasol, which meant that we could dine al fresco and keep out of the sun if we wanted to. All the bedrooms are good sizes, and 2 bathrooms meant that teen preening sessions didn't affect the whole family. We found some nice forest walks very nearby and the village is extremely pretty. Being able to buy fresh bread at the restaurant next door was a bonus too and the locals were very tolerant of my rusty French! Bergerac is only a short drive away, and it is worth the trip for the ice cream alone (their lemon meringue pie flavour is hard to beat!). We'll definitely be booking again for this year. “Really nice relaxing holiday” Jo & Ted did a nice job of looking after us and providing all the help we needed without interfering and without "adding the cost" for every little extra. The three properties were ideal for two extended families and the grounds and pool ideal and safe for the grandchildren. Good sightseeing as well as shopping nearby, and reasonable weather for end May. We all had a great time.
