“A wonderful week in a beautifully presented property” Our week was perfect in every way. The cottage is beautifully appointed, providing everything you could possibly need for a week away from home. Our three young girls loved the garden and pool and it was only a short distance to the local town for all your daily provisions. We would highly recommend this property.

“Really nice relaxing holiday” Jo & Ted did a nice job of looking after us and providing all the help we needed without interfering and without "adding the cost" for every little extra. The three properties were ideal for two extended families and the grounds and pool ideal and safe for the grandchildren. Good sightseeing as well as shopping nearby, and reasonable weather for end May. We all had a great time.

“A dream of a holiday home!” An absolutely fantastic house with everything you could possibly need for a perfect holiday and more. The rooms are large, the bathrooms plentiful and the furniture is so tasteful. It was spotless and well equipped. The pool was a Godsend as the weather was beautiful. It is secluded and has plenty of seats, tables and sunbeds. The house was well situated to visit vineyards, a lake with manmade beach, interesting towns such as St Emillion and Bergerac and a number of reasonable restaurants recommended by the helpful owners who were there if you needed them but not intrusive. The village housed a friendly bar and hotel and held a special night in the village square during the Summer. It also had a bakery, shop, pharmacy doctors etc. I would recommend this beautiful house to anyone; couples, families etc.

Dordogne holidays

This picturesque part of southern France is the epitome of laid-back rural life. Lush, green meadows, stone built houses, grand châteaus and sprawling vineyards cover this area, and many have likened it to a sunnier, larger version of the Cotswolds in the UK. The landscape is steeped in history: explore prehistoric caves, 12th century fortresses and much, much more.

So if it's a taste of traditional France you're looking for, why not book a rental in the Dordogne? Choose from cottages, villas, apartments and, of course, gorgeous French gîtes.

A rich history

There are so many fascinating historical places of interest in the Dordogne, it's impossible to list them all here. But to get you started, highlights include the painted caves in Lascaux. Although the original caves are no longer open to the public, the replica caves are an impressive sight indeed. Visit the Cave of Font-de-Gaume to see the ancient engravings and paintings or ride the electric train through the caves at Rouffignac.

If you want to get your children interested in French history, you'll find plenty of opportunities in the Dordogne. Head to Les Villages Bournat where you'll discover a working watermill, walnut press, fairground rides, wood carving, pottery making and dressing up. At Chateau de Bridoire, watch a jousting display or even have a go a firing a crossbow! And at Vezac, navigate your way through the maze of sculpted hedges and flowers. There's a children's play area and café on site, too.

Food & wine

Whether you're buying fresh bread from the local bakery or dining out in an elegant restaurant, you're in for a taste sensation. Specialites include cassoulet and confit de canard, and local produce such as ceps, figs and chestnuts, will leave you wanting more. One of the best things about booking a self-catering rental in the Dordogne is having your own kitchen where you can recreate French recipes using local produce. There are hundreds of markets taking place all over the region. Salat market is one of the biggest and runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Visit La Truffe Sarladaise in Vezac where you can buy walnuts, truffles, wine and more. Speaking of wine, a visit to the Dordogne isn't complete without a vineyard tour and there are many excellent options here.

NANDOLLE FARMHOUSE
Just perfect

Nandolle was just the perfect property. Great for families but equally good for couples wanting a peaceful and relaxing break. The facilities in the villa are good and the outdoor space perfect. The larger than normal pool is amazing and very private. Although very rural a short car journey through fabulous countryside leads to several beautiful villages. We will definitely be returningsee more
La Maison Grange
Amazing home from home holiday

There were 3 families in our party (6 adults and 6 children aged between 3-13 altogether) each having our own Gite but still able to all be together to eat, drink and have fun!! We had the most amazing time the gites were fantastic, the grounds were ideal and the activities for the kids and big kids were perfect. Our hosts John and Jane made us feel so welcome we felt we had returned to visit old friends. They were great, anything we needed from equipment to tips on where to go nothing was too much trouble. Cannot recommend enough! I can’t wait until we can visit again! see more
Villa "LA PALMERAIE" Pool & Jacuzzi Dordogne
3 weeks relaxing holiday

This is a lovely bungalow with  a superb heated pool and garden area, all very private and Ideal for a relaxing holiday by the pool. The 4 bedrooms are uniquely decorated and the 4 ensuite shower rooms are lovely. However there is only 2 toilets,  one in the villa and one at the poolside - this was not a problem for us as there were only 4 adults in the villa. The kitchen is very well equipped with all the possible gadgets you could wish for including a juicer, coffee machine, burger press and soda steam to name but a few there is also a dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, iron and ironing board. The villa is not a typical rental property  but the home of the hosts with their personal effects around, making it very homely.  Its about 30-40 minutes from Bergerac and Perigueux both lovely, however the local town of Mussidan is small and uninspiring with only 2 drinking bars ( that we found), there are a few restaurants in and around Mussidan, but more in the surrounding area, with Duck and Foie Gras being very prominent on all the menus. We would advise that you have at least conversational French or are experts with a translation app as there is little English spoken in this area. The hosts Nanou et Michel are lovely people who are very welcoming and provided details on local restaurants and places to visit. We had a lovely relaxing time in their home.see more
'Vine Cottage' nestled in the vineyards of Bergerac. A treat for wine lovers.
A lovely cottage in a perfect location

We had such a great stay at Vine Cottage. A wonderful spot to enjoy the surroundings and to unwind. An evening walk through the vineyards, followed by a glass of Sue and Steve's own wine, chilling in sun loungers around the pool... bliss! Lots to explore in the immediate surrounds. A very comfortable and authentic french cottage. And the best value cottage in the area! Ticks all the boxes. Sue and Steve were such brilliant hosts and couldn't do enough for us.see more

Exceeded expectations

Dear Emmanuel, it was a lovely week at your appartment. The location exceeded our expectations. Montfort is such a beautiful place. Also, everything we needed was present, it was quiet, and you were a welcoming host. We enjoyed everything about the stay. Needless to say we would love to return one day. Kind regards.see more
