Holiday cottage in Dordogne

Domme cottage

3 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 6

“Improved Facilities Makes this Cottage Even Better!” We stayed here 3 years ago and absolutely loved it - always promising to return! Having decided to revisit, we were delighted to see that a swimming pool had been installed in the garden. Indeed the whole property inside and out has been given a makeover, bringing it bang up to date. For the first 3 days we didn't feel inclined to leave the cottage and just enjoyed relaxing by the pool which even includes a 'counter current' if you feel the need to exercise! The house accommodates 6 adults in comfort and 2 bathrooms ensures there's room for everyone. Sky TV and fast broadband is available and very welcome. The town of Domme is a huge tourist attraction, so being 1 minute from the centre but in absolute peace and tranquility makes this a very special place. We'll be back!

“A wonderful week in a beautifully presented property” Our week was perfect in every way. The cottage is beautifully appointed, providing everything you could possibly need for a week away from home. Our three young girls loved the garden and pool and it was only a short distance to the local town for all your daily provisions. We would highly recommend this property.

“Really nice relaxing holiday” Jo & Ted did a nice job of looking after us and providing all the help we needed without interfering and without "adding the cost" for every little extra. The three properties were ideal for two extended families and the grounds and pool ideal and safe for the grandchildren. Good sightseeing as well as shopping nearby, and reasonable weather for end May. We all had a great time.

“A dream of a holiday home!” An absolutely fantastic house with everything you could possibly need for a perfect holiday and more. The rooms are large, the bathrooms plentiful and the furniture is so tasteful. It was spotless and well equipped. The pool was a Godsend as the weather was beautiful. It is secluded and has plenty of seats, tables and sunbeds. The house was well situated to visit vineyards, a lake with manmade beach, interesting towns such as St Emillion and Bergerac and a number of reasonable restaurants recommended by the helpful owners who were there if you needed them but not intrusive. The village housed a friendly bar and hotel and held a special night in the village square during the Summer. It also had a bakery, shop, pharmacy doctors etc. I would recommend this beautiful house to anyone; couples, families etc.

Dordogne holidays

This picturesque part of southern France is the epitome of laid-back rural life. Lush, green meadows, stone built houses, grand châteaus and sprawling vineyards cover this area, and many have likened it to a sunnier, larger version of the Cotswolds in the UK. The landscape is steeped in history: explore prehistoric caves, 12th century fortresses and much, much more.

So if it's a taste of traditional France you're looking for, why not book a rental in the Dordogne? Choose from cottages, villas, apartments and, of course, gorgeous French gîtes.

A rich history

There are so many fascinating historical places of interest in the Dordogne, it's impossible to list them all here. But to get you started, highlights include the painted caves in Lascaux. Although the original caves are no longer open to the public, the replica caves are an impressive sight indeed. Visit the Cave of Font-de-Gaume to see the ancient engravings and paintings or ride the electric train through the caves at Rouffignac.

If you want to get your children interested in French history, you'll find plenty of opportunities in the Dordogne. Head to Les Villages Bournat where you'll discover a working watermill, walnut press, fairground rides, wood carving, pottery making and dressing up. At Chateau de Bridoire, watch a jousting display or even have a go a firing a crossbow! And at Vezac, navigate your way through the maze of sculpted hedges and flowers. There's a children's play area and café on site, too.

Food & wine

Whether you're buying fresh bread from the local bakery or dining out in an elegant restaurant, you're in for a taste sensation. Specialites include cassoulet and confit de canard, and local produce such as ceps, figs and chestnuts, will leave you wanting more. One of the best things about booking a self-catering rental in the Dordogne is having your own kitchen where you can recreate French recipes using local produce. There are hundreds of markets taking place all over the region. Salat market is one of the biggest and runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Visit La Truffe Sarladaise in Vezac where you can buy walnuts, truffles, wine and more. Speaking of wine, a visit to the Dordogne isn't complete without a vineyard tour and there are many excellent options here.

LE LAVOIR Grands Gîtes du Périgord Sleeps 9
Perfect escape to the French countryside

Le Lavoir is tastefully furnished. It is very spacious downstairs and all 4 bedrooms are a good size and beautifully decorated. There is a generous private terrace overlooking an open grassed area which was a great space for our teenage boys to play football and for family games of boules. The pool area is fabulous. The pool is large and beautifully situated. Perfect for relaxing. In the village, which is a short 15 min walk away, there is a boulangerie/patisserie and there are some lovely towns a short drive away. Christophe and Anita were very attentive and when we had a problem with the dvd they replaced it the next day. If you are looking for a peaceful escape to the French countryside you will not be disappointed.see more
The Couges
Charming rural farmhouse

What a gem this house is, it is very rural, tranquil and you need for nothing (other than supermarket supplies) when you are there. The whole house has been designed with fun in mind, a great pool, with the most fantastic outdoor kitchen/ dining area (like camping but way better), great games room, enough for all ages. And a chill out cinema barn, all surrounded by fields and trees. Internally has been decorated really well whilst retaining a rustic charm throughout. If you enjoy nature this is ideal, there are bats, crickets and amazing star gazing on a clear night plus walks and bike rides on the doorstep. Local town Monpazier is a very pretty and canoeing on the Dordogne is a must! We were two families (9 in total) and it was very comfortable, could have easily had a third family. We loved your house! Adorable

We loved our stay in this ‘adorable’ cottage. The pool was great and the cottage was clean and well kept. Domme itself was quiet but pretty and the gardens are lovely. … see more
The Small Gite
A charming place

My boyfriend and I had the most wonderful holiday in this beautiful gite with everything we needed. In Saint-Cyprien you both get the charming atmosphere of being in an old village with a calm atmosphere and small cute streets, while being able to find local restaurants and a bar to enjoy a beer during the night. The area of Dodogne is incredible and great to discover through bikes. Lucy and John are super hosts, and we can only recommend this place. We hope to come back one day!see more

True home from home !

From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Ruth and Ian everything exceeded our expectations Beautiful setting, really well equipped Gite (we always bring loads of stuff on self-catering holidays but there was no need even down to egg cups, chessboard, loads of cooking equipment and a Weber bbq - which we made excellent use) The gite was immaculately clean - Ruth obviously takes pride in her business and Ian kept the pool and garden in fabulous condition through Would we stay here again - absolutely! Would we recommend - yes Would be a great place if you wanted 2 or 3 of the gites to share with friends or family We loved it - especially our daily chats with Ruth and Ian - who we introduced to the delights of “boudin noir”! Thanks for a great 2 week holiday Jane and Grahamsee more
