Bosnia Herzegovina is a meeting point for East and West, and has been fought over for centuries. In recent years the region has managed to put its troubles into the past, and has opened its doors to visitors. For a city break, Sarajevo’s Old Town has one of the most charming markets, and Mostar’s Stari Most or Old Bridge is a beautiful piece of Ottoman architecture. The country has a great seaside resort – Neum – and there’s great hiking in the Alps. The Jahorina Mountains once hosted the Winter Olympics and now offer wonderful, inexpensive skiing.

Staying in rooms "Rafael"
This year was my second time I visit rooms „Rafael“. And this year was even better than the last year. Mladen and his wife was very helpful. My wife and I stayed with two children, and Mladen's family offerd my children to play with their childs toy, so children ended up playing together, what make us more relaxed. Beside that, rooms are very nice and cosy, very clean, and the food is excelant. We strongly recomend to visit Rafael's rooms. We know that we are certanly going again.

Lovely rural mountaintop retreat above Sarajevo
The place is around about 20 minutes drive from Sarajevo centre and is in a small, rarefied chalet-type resort in the north of the city with plenty of lovely walking trails around and a couple of little restaurant/bars to have an evening drink.
There are plenty of rooms and beds, which could accommodate many more, but as a couple it was still delightful. There are walking trails up and around the mountain and you'll feel wonderfully secluded enjoying a drink looking out over Sarajevo in the evening, just catching the murmur of the call to prayer on the wind. The house has all the things you need to cook for yourself if you don't want to head out again. The area is quiet and serene and the house is picturesque and pleasant to spend time in with the creaking of the stairs confirming the rustic authenticity.
When arriving, please bear in mind that there is only one route to the accommodation from the city - Pasino Brdo takes you directly there, but unless you're well used to Sarajevo, it will probably be easier to ask the owner to show you the way. Speaking of which, the owner is extremely hospitable, helping in any way he could and was an exemplar of Bosnia and Herzegovina's friendly welcome to us. …
2 Bedroom Villa in Blagaj, 15 minutes from Mostar

Peaceful location yet only a few minutes to Mostar. Lots to see and do in what we found to be an interesting and welcoming country. We will almost certainly return. …
