Anita's Ubud and Kuta Villa's Bali Indonesia - Things to Know
This charming traditional Bali house is part of a multi-generational Balinese compound that is not often seen by visitors. In a home-stay you will be part of the vivid and gregarious community life that is the REAL Bali. Wayan and her family will share their culture, traditions and religion with you in an open and humble way that is very, very special. You will become a part of their big and loving family. The compound houses 4 generations of Wayan’s husband’s family each in their own section and with their own daily interests and rhythms.
The family temple lies just beyond the garden of your mini house and is the center of the spiritual life of the family. Take part in the daily offerings or the larger ceremonies to appreciate the importance of ritual and ancestors. Pets are a big part of the compound from pugs to birds & rabbits. In their own separate area in the back of the compound are the family’s livestock, chickens and pigs.
Wayan is a talented Jegog dancer and is happy to introduce and explain the intricacies of the Balinese traditional dances. You can also learn some Balinese or Bahasa Indonesian with her. The rice terraces of Tegalallang lie to the back of the compound as do 2 rivers. Daily walks through the rice terraces at sunrise and sunset are incredibly beautiful as the herons wing their way to their roosting grounds in the next village over. Or join the village children as they splash about.
The compound is fronted by a village grocer where all of your daily grocery needs are stocked. There are numerous local restaurants (warungs) within walking distance or Wayan is happy to prepare authentic meals for about 1 Euro.. Ask for the local delicacies and even cooking lessons to learn more about Balinese cuisine.
If you love Yoga then the world renowned Om Ham retreat is within walking distance. If you want a massage or other natural therapy these can be arranged for you by Wayan at home. Transportation to and from Ubud, daily tours are readily available or you can rent a motorbike or car to get around under your own steam.
Airport pick up can be coordinated. The airport is about 1:15 minutes away.
