The Devon region

Plymouth is a City steeped in history, and It has been the home to Colonial Adventurers such as Drake & Darwin and is the place where the Pilgrim Fathers departed from.

Since then Plymouth has grown into a cosmopolitian city where an extrodinary blend of modern city chic meets with this historic seafaring port. There are several places of interest including The Hoe, The Mayflower Steps and The Barbican. You can also expect to find all the modern attractions of a thriving city including great shopping, fine restaurants, excellent theatres and a vibrant night life.

Although there are no beaches in Plymouth, there are many spectacular beaches within a short drive of the City. Here is a selection of the best beaches within the area: Bigbury, Salcombe & Slapton sands in South Devon and Whitsand and Looe just over the Tamar in Cornwall. There are also smaller beaches close by at Bovisand and Wembury. Alternatively, if you do fancy a dip without leaving Plymouth, why not visit the historic Tinside Lido, the open air seawater pool which has been restored to its former glory. It is built in stunning Art Deco style and is situated on the Hoe. The pool is open during summer months.

Royal William Yard

The former victualling yard on the banks of the River Tamar was once the supply stores for the Royal Navy, ensuring the ships had sufficient stocks of food and drink. The yard was designed by eminent Victorian engineer Sir John Rennie and was built between 1825 and 1835 and is now a scheduled ancient monument.

It now includes a restaurant as well as an hourly passenger ferry service to/from the Barbican during the summer months (1st May to 30th September in 2011).

Mount Edgcumbe country park is just on the opposite bank of the river Tamar with a frequent passenger ferry connection. There are several National Trust properties with beautiful gardens in the local area - Saltram House, Antony House, Cotehele and Buckland Abbey.

Plymouth itself has the National Marine Aquarium, a large leisure pool, ice rink & event/concert centre at Plymouth Pavilions, the Theatre Royal, cinemas, bowling and a dry ski slope. There are nearby golf courses and for the brave there's the UK's longest zip wire and hovercraft driving at Adrenalin Quarry near Liskeard, PL14 3PJ about a 40minute drive away.

The world famous Eden project is only 40 miles away by car.

"Excellent in every way!"

Wow, what more can I say! Location, was fantastic with restaurants, shops (try the wine bar!) & the ferry to the Barbican on your doorstep. A bus at the entrance of the RWY to take you into the city quickly, we really didn't even need a car for the week we were there. The apartment is so quiet & the views are amazing. While we stayed the navy were doing a training exercise with several other countries & the parade of frigates going past the windows of the apartment was incredible! We could have just stayed in all day watching the passing ships & boats. The apartment is super spacious & well equipped, everything is of a high standard. The beds are comfy & shower pressure good! Also while we stayed the Antiques Roadshow was filming in the RWY...what a buzz that was to be part of. Would we stay here again, yes in a heartbeat, in fact we really didn't want to leave & could have moved in permanently! Thanks to Michael, Bridget & Jo for making our stay so seamless, they are a very professional team! Tina & Dave :-)

We're so pleased that you had a great time and look forward to hearing from you next time you are in Plymouth. Thanks for taking the time to write a review.

"Views to die for, a fabulous Plymouth location to stay in"

Everything was very professionally handled from the moment of enquiry and booking to being met by the local representative to receive the keys in Plymouth. When we arrived we were very impressed with the apartment as it is very spacious and every window looks out to sea and across the estuary to Cornwall. We were a family of 5 with our youngest being aged 9. We were able to comfortably sleep with 4 of us in 2 bedrooms and our son taking the day bed in the office area of the apartment. This does not mean that we have to all go to bed early, we simply put our son to bed in our room and move him out to his bed when we want to go to bed. The apartment was very well appointed, there is nothing lacking. The dining table was huge and meant we could have a second family come and visit us and all sit comfortably around the table. The sofas reclined which felt luxurious and comfortable and the views were incredible. On several occasions warships sailed right past the windows on their way to and from the docks. To top it all there is a full working printer, Wii and Playstation. Location wise there are gorgeous bars and restaurants on the doorstep, but the best for me is being able to walk to the foot passenger Cremyll ferry at the end of the road and take the ferry to Mount Edgecumbe Country Park in Cornwall, the most beautiful place with stunning walks. We hope to return soon!

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you'll stay again next time you are in Plymouth. Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

"An excellent start to married life"

I booked this fabulous appartment for my daughter and her new husband for their wedding night, as I was unable to find anything so special in the local hotels. It was perfect in every way. We booked it for 3 nights, so we were able to visit on the Friday to put some personal touches to it, like champagne in the fridge and petals on the bed but everything else was ideal. They did not visit until after they were married and were thrilled. They stayed for 2 nights and really didn't want to leave, apart from the fact they are now on honeymoon in South Africa! Briget and Michael made the whole booking procedure very smooth. If you're looking for a boutique hotel, consider this appartment instead.

We're so glad your daughter and her husband enjoyed their stay at the start of their married life. Thank you for taking the time to write a review

"Delightful experience in every way."

Outstanding apartment by the harbour, with superb views. Sea-going vessels from yachts to warships sailed by within yards of the balcony; it was difficult to leave to go and explore other attractions in the county. The owners have done everything possible to make one's stay perfect.

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will visit again next time you are in Plymouth. Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

"Soaring ceilings and spectacular views with all home comforts"

We travelled to Plymouth for 5 days to visit our son and nephew who are students there. The apartment was both spectacular and comfortable, with heavy stonework and an incredibly high wooden painted ceiling tastefully combined with a clean finish, generously stocked library/DVD library, everything we needed in the kitchen etc. etc. We awoke to the sound of seagulls and the view across the Tamar to Cornwall - the regular little ferry to cross over is about 5 mins walk away. The wi-fi briefly broke down at the exchange and the owner fixed it promptly. Otherwise perfect and we would go back in a heartbeat.

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will visit again next time you are in Plymouth. Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

"Great base for relaxing and exploring"

The Admiral's View apartment served as the perfect base for our holiday in Devon and Cornwall - a beautiful space outfitted with every comfort we could need. Within the Royal William Yard complex were plenty of delicious restaurants to try, as well as the ferry to Plymouth Barbican for exploring the old city. The nearby ferry to Mount Edgcumbe opens the way to day's worth of beautiful sites to explore. The view from the flat cannot be beat, and it's well equipped with things to do on a rainy day when you want to stay in as well. Two things to know ahead of time - you need to book ahead for the restaurants at RWY (especially on weekends), and there's no lift up to the apartment. But climbing the two flights of stairs is a great way to work off the delicious treats from the restaurants.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will visit again soon. Thanks for taking the time to review.

"A very special apartment"

We stay in apartments three to four times a year and this is, without any doubt, one of the best in which we have stayed. The quality of fixtures and fittings is superb and they fully justify the above average security deposit. It is just a wonderful apartment, even better than the photographs on the webpages suggest. Then there is the location, what a view. I could just stand on the veranda and just watch the world sail by. Being on the Royal William Yard is more than just a bonus. It is really lovely to wander around and I must really recommend the ‘River Cottage Canteen and Deli’. With the last ferry leaving Cornwall at 9pm an early evening visit to the Edgcumbe Arms for a drink with a view. There is also a ferry to the Barbican on site and the bus stop is just at the entrance to the yard. Word of warning, seagulls are far too plentiful and the need for your car to be washed as soon as you get home is inevitable. This is a most wonderful apartment and we will most definitely hope to return.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will visit again soon. Thanks for taking the time to review.

"Fantastic Location"

This was our second stay at Admirals View and it just gets better. As a Plymothian I can say this is one of the best locations in Plymouth to stay. The apartment is spacious and well appointed and the welcome from Jo is friendly and professional. The amenities at the Royal William Yard just keep getting better and the access to the surrounding area is great. We'll be back soon.

It's great to have you back and thank you for taking the time to write a review. We look forward to your return.

"Admiral View"

we had the best stay, everything provided and easy accessibility to surrounding area. only disadvantage is there was no lift, it was up on the second floor and after adventuring all day the last thing you want to do is climb more, lol. but the view alone is worth it.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and we're glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to your return.

"12 months on and still "WOW""

Our second visit here and still as impressive as our first visit. Very easy to make arrangements with Jo to meet and greet us. Jo was on time, friendly and had some great tips, particularly about local road works. Apartment is fantastic, wonderful views, which were enhanced by the new addition of a telescope, so you can really enjoy the comings and goings on the water and actually Mount Edgecombe country park too! Really pleased to see that the owners have maintained the excellent standard of this apartment and are still improving, which I didn't think was possible. We enjoyed The Seco Lounge and The River Cottage Canteen and Deli, both on site. The farmer's market, which runs on the first Sunday of the month is fantastic; so many yummy things to choose from....... Again, a great base for our day trips. Overbecks, Totnes Castle, Dartmouth Castle, Okehampton Castle, Castle Drogo and beautiful coastals walks to name a few. I cannot recommend Bridget and Mike's apartment highly enough; the best we have stayed in.

Great to have you back and thank you for taking the time to write a review. We try to keep making small improvements and ensure things remain at a high standard so nice to hear we're doing well.
