The Central Scotland/Strathclyde region
From Argyll in the west to Fife in the east, Central Scotland offers outstanding variety: variety of landscape; variety of climate; variety of historic sites; variety of activities, both indoor and outdoor. The one thing which does not vary is the welcome guests will receive - warm, enthusuastic and friendly. The area includes Scotland's major cities, Edinburgh and Glasgow, with their own wealth of cultural and historic attractions, and the Royal Burghs of Stirling and Perth, both steeped in Scottish history. The wild and romantic coastline of Argyll contrasts with the sandy beaches of Fife, and the rich farmland of the Central Lowlands gives way to the Highlands in the north, providing exceptional opportunities for outdoor activities of all kinds and ensuring that visitors to the area return home with lasting memories of a unique and wonderful place.
Loch Lomond National Park
Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park forms a precious area of Scotland's landscape, from lush green farmland to forests, lochs, rivers and mountains, and Ballat Smithy Cottage sits right on the threshold. The area offers all kinds of outdoor activity: walking, cycling, mountain biking, sailing & watersports, riding, climbing, golf; there are sites of great historic importance and many parts of the National Park are nationally and internationally important for wildlife.
The central location of Ballat Smithy Cottage means that all parts of the National Park are within easy reach, and a drive in any direction promises visitors unforgettable views of this special place. Drymen and other nearby villages such as Killearn and Balfron provide a wide variety of places to eat and shop; sports such as tennis and swimming are also easily arranged.

"Lovely cottage, great suroundings"
Loved this cottage and the location.
The only setback were the beds and the internet connection. I could feel the springs in the mattress. And the internet signal was very poor and could only be used in one of the bedrooms. Otherwise I really enjoyed everything.
There were a lot of pamflets and maps available at the cottage for the surrounding area. The owner was very frinedly an helpfull.
So we had a lovely stay and would recommend this cottage to anyone.
Thank you for contributing a review of Ballat Smithy Cottage. We are glad you enjoyed the cottage and its location, and sorry that you considered the beds uncomfortable. If you had made us aware of this during your stay or on departure we would have welcomed the opportunity to investigate. The mattress on the double bed was almost new at the time of your visit, and we have received no complaints about any of the beds from other guests; in fact, many comment on how comfortable they are. We agree that the internet connection here is not ideal, however it is our practice to point this out to guests who wish to use the internet, and advise that the best connection is in the bedroom. The cottage is located in a rural area where the internet connection may not be as good as that experienced elsewhere. Had we been made aware of your dissatisfaction at the time we could have directed you to our local library, which also has internet access. Thanks again for your review.
