A luxury villa for family, friends and fun. This is relatively new villa - hitherto only let in the summer, it is now available all the year round.

“Ta Cikku” (meaning “Of Cikku”, a diminutive of the name Francis) has been built with luxury very firmly in mind. Its 5 bedrooms and very large living areas can accommodate up to 12 people with ease. The main rooms are air-conditioned*. A cleaner comes in every four days to ensure your comfort.

It is situated near the centre of the old village of Gharb, yet with open country views. Gharb has plenty of history as any of its local inhabitants will testify!

Gharb is the oldest village in Gozo and his home to the larger of the two charming holiday homes offered exclusively by Gozo Luxury Properties.

There is evidence that people lived here as long ago as c.3,800 BC. The Phoenicians used to plan their sea journeys west from here. Later, the Romans, also, built a small settlement. When the Arabs settled they gave their language to the Maltese – and the name Gharb is derived from Arabic (the GH is silent, so it is pronounced “Arb”).

It is no surprise that foreigners, in particular those from the UK, like this place. There are still signs of the old British occupation, which lasted nearly two hundred years. The traditional red telephone and post boxes are still very much in use – as well as the local police station's blue lamp! Many foreigners have come to settle here and many old farmhouses have been carefully restored. There are several bars and a couple of restaurants within walking distance.

The village is surrounded by dry-stonewalled fields and the peace that is part of an agricultural community. Like other villages it is characterised by narrow streets of terraced stone housing of varying age and style. The church dominates the central piazza. At night, when the stars come out, the silence dedescends almost palpably.

The Island of Gozo region

Gozo is Malta's secret hideway island. Not many in the outside world know it actually exists. it is only a short ferry ride away and yet it offers a completly different experience to the main island. Here ,as we say " eveyday is Saturday -apart from Sunday".

If you are looking for a unique holiday, then Gozo, the sister island of Malta is an idyllic haven for those seeking total relaxation. The Maltese Islands are just a short flight away from any European destination making the Islands a perfect place for a holiday, with Gozo only a 20 minutes ferry crossing from Malta.

Gharb

Xewkija the village of the rotunda church, takes its name from a place where thistles grew.

At the crossroads (and traffic lights) on the Rabat-Xewkija-Mgarr road, there is a unique windmill. Instead of a square building, it is an eight-sided edifice corresponding to the eight points of the compass and the eight dominant winds.

A most spectacular effort is the parish church dome dedicated to St. John The Baptist. Completed in 1981 and paid for by the 3,500 villagers, it boasts the third largest supported dome in the world, coming in after St. Peter's in Rome. The dome is 74 metres high, with a diameter of 27 metres and a circumference of 85 metres. Its total weight is calculated to be around 45,000 tonnes.

Of particular interest is the chapel of Our Lady of Mercy around which revolves a legend about a thief who wanted to steal a golden chalice, but ended up joining a hermit to repay his sins.

Wied Hanzira, literally meaning the “valley of the sow” is one of the deepest valleys on the island and a veritable haven for the lover of wild plants. It flows southwards from the end of the village.

Xewkija is an active village. It comprises Gozo's industrial zone, where factories produce a number of articles for local use and for export. During weekends, the road that from Xewkija leads to Rabat, is thronged by football fans intent on an afternoon's entertainment at the adjacent football stadium.

"Unpleasant Stay - Owner did not inform us about next door construction works starting 6am!!!"

We arrived at the farmhouse in the evening and the owner showed us around. Rooms were spacious and two of the bedrooms were quite nicely furnished. Pool area was huge and very inviting especially for sunny days typical of Malta & Gozo. Next morning at 6 am we woke up to noise coming from the building next door. We were really disappointed when we went out in the pool area, to see that the owner/manager failed to inform us about the contruction works being done by next door neighbours!! The noise from digging into stone and rocks was really unpleasant and unbearable. Construction works went on from 6 am to 6 pm non-stop. Imagine going on holiday and being forced to wake up at 6 in the morning, besides ending up with a terrible head ache by evening!!! Next day we really could not take it any more so we called the owner. But his reply was merely that he was not aware of construction works (something obviously not true) and that the next day the works would have seized, being a sunday. Obviously we felt very angry that we weren't informed prior to making the booking - especially since the rates are not really cheap for this farmhouse!! Apart from this, we were also not informed that A/C's were on consumption basis. At the end of our stay we all felt that we were unfairly treated by a money-hungry individual. We were disappointed and would definitely not return to this farmhouse.
