About this location

Carmarthenshire region

Situated between the old mining village of gwaun cae gurwen and brynaman the cottage is semi rural. it is set back from the road and overlooks a wide common used for grazing cattle, horses and sheep. the area here is quiet but still only a ten minute walk to a good sized and stocked local supermarket. there are some pubs within walking distance although the nicer pubs with good cuisine are more of a drive the nearest being approx 15 minutes drive. there are two 24 hour tesco stores five miles either side of the cottages. visitors come here mainly for the experience of the welsh countryside and coast. there are numerous facilities in the surrounding area such as horse riding, the red kite feeding centre, loads of castles as well as theaters and cinema. the dan yr ogof cave complex which is the biggest in europe is approximately 10 miles from the cottage. the city of swansea with its many bars, excellent shopping centre and restaurants is 13 miles away. the cottage is approximately 30 minutes drive from the M 4 exit.

For mountains, the brecon beacons is stunning, so too are the many waterfalls and rivers that are part of the national park. the gower coast is famous around the world for it wonderful paths along the coastline and its bird and wild life. there is plenty of water leisure activity in the mumbles if visitors fancy a day out to the coast. there is no shortage of lovely welsh market towns to visit, and castles to explore. swansea has in addition to a lively night life, also excellent shopping. the grand theater shows opera and national touring shows and plays. there is a number of galleries and museums in the city as well as the architecture award winning marine quarter.

"Beautiful location but inside the cottage was disappointing..."

Cottage was in a beautiful location and was warm and cosy with a lovely and well kept garden. Unfortunately, it was apparent that there had been a cat/dog in the property as the floor was covered in t… More

this couple spent a full week in apple cottage during which they were perfectly well aware that I was next door and I saw them on a number of occasions. Not once did they approach me either in person or via email or phone (the details of which they had from previous mobile phone correspondence) The initial email sent to me after their departure was one that was rambling, inconsistent and to get to the point asking for a refund of money. This couple claim that they were uncomfortable in the cottage due to a variety of petty complaints and yet on the last day of their stay were happy to remain indoors all day. To add irony they left the cottage in a filthy state, food debris all over the floor and surfaces including furniture, empty beer and vodka bottles, and cans all over the kitchen, a cooker caked in grease and a dirty fridge. This was an attempt to obtain a refund of money and nothing more. If people are put off either by their unfair, untrue and vindictive comments I would please ask that they look at the GLOWING comments which were made by the visitors who were in only the week before. Apple cottage gives fantastic value for money, it is clean, comfortable and maintained to a high standard which is confirmed in other reviews.
