From the owner

The Walkers Retreat is a very cosy, clean and quiet holiday let with large garden to walk around in and great views to admire. You can make use of your own outdoor terrace and we have also several wooden benches spread out in the garden for you to use and enjoy the views. Located in Dartmoor National Park makes it's possible to start walks from the property onto the Moor or to the River Dart. There is free secured parking and the Walkers Retreat has it's own private entrance.

The Walkers Retreat has a fully equipped kitchen with microwave, electric hob and oven. The living area has a comfortable reclining chair and sofa. Free view television with DVD player, magazines and a varied range of books are available. The bedroom has a super king size bed and wardrobe. A toilet with small basin is next to the bedroom and the shower room is downstairs. There is a washing/dryer machine and iron facilities. We provide fresh bedlinen, towels, bathrobes, detergents and shower gels all free of charge.

On arrival we provide fresh milk and eggs from our local milk farm in Scoriton. There will also be coffee, tea and sugar, etc. We try our utmost to keep the Walkers Retreat facilities to a high standard.

In the village of Holne, opposite the church, is our very well stocked community shop. Built in 1329, the Church House Inn serves wonderful food, coffee and drinks and is located within a 5-minute walk from the property. In the village of Scoriton is the friendly Tradesmans Arms and is five minutes by car. The nearest town is Ashburton, 10 minutes drive away, and offers a excellent selection of tea shops, cafes, restaurants, and food shops.

Dartmoor National Park is on our doorstep and the beautiful South Devon coast is about 40 minutes drive away. The market town of Tavistock is 35 minutes away. The drive over the Moors to this charming town with its indoor market is just stunning. The market town of Newton Abbott is 20 minutes away, and Totnes, with its many independent shops, is also 20 minutes away. The city of Exeter with its stunning cathedral is 35 minutes drive away.

We very much welcome dogs at the Walkers Retreat. One dog will be free of charge and for an extra dog we charge £10 per stay.

Interaction with guest

Alex and Samantha live on site with their two young daughters. We always try to be home when guests arrive to hand over the keys. If there are any problems or questions during their stay we will try our best to help out. There are many leaflets in the property of things to do in the area. We also provide maps of Dartmoor and a booklet of walks to be made from Holne. There is also a folder with information about the property and a list of restaurants, theatre and cinema.

House rules

House trained dogs are very much welcome. One dog will be free of charge. We provide a small dog basket, bowl, towels and plastic sheet for muddy paws. If you like to bring a second dog, we charge £10 per stay. Please do let us know upfront if you would like to bring your dog(s).
We can also provide a travel cot bed for a small child, which will be set up in the bedroom or you can all sleep in the king size bed. Costs will be £15 per night.

Why can't I call Samantha (the owner) before booking?

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

You’ll need to contact Samantha (the owner) to do this. Send them a message in Manage your holiday booking or through the contact form on this page.

How do I cancel my booking?

Go to Manage your holiday booking to cancel your booking. Here you can view your cancellation policy to see if you’ll be refunded.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Samantha (the owner) a message.

If Samantha (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
