“Villa Oasis, an oasis of tranquillity in fantastic surroundings” 12 days spent in one of the most relaxing villas I've ever stayed in. Lots of outdoor space, so you could sit an one area in complete privacy from another area. Pool a superb depth and length. Quite cold water whilst we were there but once in, absolutely great. I'm sure during the hot weather this July and August, it would have been a godsend. Lots of space around the pool, with outdoor shower, sun loungers etc all provided and all of a good quality. My favourite area? The outdoor kitchen! I loved to be able to prepare a quick lunch or evening BBQ whilst feeling part of the rest of the family sunbathing outside. There are 2 areas to eat to take advantage of the sun or shade, plus there are awnings to ensure you do have shade. The villa is nestled into the mountains, looking out towards Mount Etna and the valley below. From early morning to late at night the view is amazing. Plenty of walks from the villa should you wish. A car is essential as Caselvecchio is the nearest village, about 25 minutes on foot all downhill but definitely longer uphill, back!! In Caselvecchio there are 2 excellent butchers where we bought very interesting skewers for the BBQ, meat stuffed with cheese, plus local cheese, bread and a few groceries. The little grocery shop also had a little fresh fruit and veg but great for one meal. The drive through the village is interesting in the least!!! Room for one car and very windy... the use of your horn is essential!!! Savoca not far with 2 excellent upmarket restaurants and a couple of pizzerias but can be a little busy with tourists during the day. However, well worth a visit and wander around the 'Godfather' village and catacombs. We would have visited the beach at S Theresa di Riva had the villa not been so enticing and difficult to leave, however the pebbly beach is quite extensive for any beach lovers but not as good as beaches elsewhere on the island. A good beach is at Isola Bella near Taormina but unless you go early it is very busy. We loved Taormina, touristy but the amphitheatre was fantastic and little shops and restaurants in the cobbled streets made for a great day out. Only 45 minutes from the villa. We also stopped in Catania a night before going to the villa, which was also very interesting as well as Siracusa, further away. The highlight of our trip, apart from the villa itself, was our trip to Mount Etna. Despite worrying that it would be cold and that we didn't have the right clothing, it was in fact no issue. Although it's quite expensive ( about 65 Euros each if you take the option to cable car, bus and guide) but we felt it was worth it as a once in a lifetime trip. All very interesting and would have loved to have walked up to the top craters instead of taking the bus, but you need plenty of time and would need to get there a lot earlier than we did. We spent the whole day there exploring and could have stayed even longer. However, what made our holiday so special were our hosts, in particular Mariacatena. She is one of the nicest and friendliest person I have ever dealt with whilst on holiday. She gives you great advice, checks you are ok, reserves tables at restaurants at your request and generally will do absolutely anything to make your stay more comfortable. The grounds and pool were kept clean by a visit every other day, but so discreetly that we never actually met him. Elena cleaned the villa half way through our visit and left the villa as spotless as we had found it with a change of all linen and towels. The indoor area is spacious should you need it, with comfy settees and large dining room. The bedrooms are simply furnished and with the air conditioning can be kept cool. We actually did not need to use it as the evening were cooler and fine to sleep with just a sheet. Showers were both extremely powerful and we never had a problem with hot water. A superb villa for a truly relaxing holiday.
