Description

Located on the furthermost tip of the United Kingdom, Natural Retreats John O'Groats is situated in a tiny hamlet encircled by a sensational and extreme landscape.

The restoration of the iconic former John O'Groats Hotel, originally built in 1875, was part of Natural Retreats' multi-million pound regeneration of this stunningly picturesque natural wilderness in Caithness in the North of Scotland. Over the last two years the hotel has been carefully restored with a new Norse style extension added providing a dramatic splash of colour against the coastal landscape. The interior combines high quality old and new styling with stunning pieces of bespoke furniture.

West facing rooms are treated to spectacular sunset views. As with all Natural Retreats properties, the Inn at John O'Groats has been sensitively developed keeping sustainability top of mind. Local craftsmen using locally sourced materials, such as Caithness stone and Scottish Larch timber, have been used wherever possible.

This stunning penthouse apartment features 1 superking bedroom, wet room and free standing bath. Location description from owner

The Caithness and Sutherland region

Wick

Whether you prefer speeding around the coast on a boat ride whilst taking in the marine life, or melting away the stress and strains of everyday life with our spa treatments, a Natural Retreats holiday at John O'Groats lets you explore and discover the spectacular beauty of Caithness.

There's plenty to discover around the coast here, and the most exhilarating way to explore it is by speeding across the waves towards Stroma and along the dramatic coastline around the Stacks of Duncansby. You'll see Scottish wildlife up close, with the chance to see orca and minke whales as they migrate, plus smaller marine mammals such as grey seals, porpoises and dolphins, not to mention birdlife such as kittiwakes, guillemots, razorbills, shags and puffins (depending on the time of year).

We pride ourselves on aiding sustainability in our local economies, which is why we have created an on-site co-operative Storehouse, providing the best local produce and provisions, from freshly baked bread to local speciality cheese. Our Storehouse also boasts a local produce cafe so you can enjoy local delicacies without having to prepare – heaven!

Providing everything you need for a range of outdoor activities, our Outfitters centre can help you with equipment, clothing and supplies. Other activities at John O'Groats include whisky tasting, guided walks, cycling and geo-caching. All can be booked through our Concierge before your trip and at our on-site Outiftters activity centre during your stay.
