Location description from owner

The Loch Ness region

There is a lot to do and see in the Loch Ness area but some people just love what's on the doorstep! Loch Ness is close by and is the largest, deepest and most mysterious loch of them all! It is majestic and stunningly beautiful. There is a wonderful drive along Loch Ness on the lower road, which passes through Foyers, on the way to Inverness, which is the most scenic route. The drive to Fort Augustus, the nearest town, which is just 8 miles away, also provides a breath-taking view right up Loch Ness!
Fort Augustus is just 8 miles from Brachkashie and the Caledonian Canal runs through this small village. It is the navigational route for all boats passing along the Great Glen. There are a series of Locks in Fort Augustus for the boats to pass through, which is always fun to watch.
The Falls of Foyers is worth a visit and if you enjoy hill walking or climbing Munro's, including the mighty Ben Nevis, then there are endless opportunities within easy driving distance. Also, the Corrieayrick Pass is an historic route (part of General Wade's road) which runs from Fort William to Laggan.

“Heaven...”

Reviewed 14 Mar 2016

New Brachkashie really is a little bit of heaven... Secluded on a beautiful loch surrounded by trees with no one else around, we had the most amazing time seeing all the different birds and deer and even an otter swam up to us on our private jetty! The cottage is fully equipped for a home away from home and Catherine has done a fantastic job decorating and furnishing. The drive to the cottage has incredible views for miles and is really easy to find. Our favourite memory is just sitting on the jetty with a cuppa and gazing at the stars. We really loved Fort Augustus, it has lots of lovely gift shops and The Lovat Hotel does incredible food. We also recommend a boat ride round Loch Ness. Thank you Catherine for allowing us to stay at your beautiful cottage. We hope you and your family have many happy years there.

Owner's reply: Thank you Katie for your touching comments! So thrilled that you had such a great week and we will hopefully welcome you back again in the future. Catherine

“Idyllic!”

We spent the most wonderful 3 nights at Brachkashie. The property is set on Loch Knockie which offers the most spectacular views from all the rooms of the house. The cottage has been styled beautifully and carries very luxurious touches - gorgeous bedding/blankets, log burner, books/maps, toiletries. The owners at one stage lived here too and there are photographs of the family dotted around the place, which adds to the homely feel of the place. There are some lovely walks straight from the cottage, and it is also ideally located for Inverness and Fort Augustus. We loved every moment and would definitely look to return, perhaps in the warmer months of the year!

Owner's reply: Thank you Resha! Wonderful that you both enjoyed your stay at New Brachkashie Cottage so much and we hope you will return again one day. As you say, maybe during a warmer spell so that you can get out on the Loch and enjoy the view from that perspective as its very magical. Many thanks again for your kind words, Catherine

“Little Gem!”

This is our fourth stay at Brachkashie and we love it. We had a short visit this time because school holidays didn't allow for a week. It wasn't long enough! The cottage is beautiful, the location is stunning and it is a real escape from busy city lives. It is a perfect place to unwind and get away from everything. Fort Augustus is only a twenty minute drive away and we like to cycle along the canal from there. You can do amazing walks from the cottage and what we really enjoyed this year, was sailing in the little topper. Take wet suits! Its always a joy to wake up and enjoy a Nespresso coffee too - Catherine hasn't forgotten anything! Very comfortable beds too with wonderful linen and cosy blankets. It also has a wonderful wood burning stove so you are never cold - that with the underfloor heating. We have two teenagers and after the first couple of hours of arriving and they are wondering what they will do without their gadgets (ipads etc) they then get into it and love the freedom that the cottage allows you to have. One thing I would definitely recommend is - go and try the White Bridge Hotel - it is great. Its a five minutes drive down the road. (2.5 miles) It has a cosy bar and serves great home made cooking (I recommend their curries). We would all thoroughly recommend a stay at Brachkashie.

Owner's reply: Thanks for your kind words the Burnet family! We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Brachkashie and really looking forward to welcoming you back in the future! All the best, Catherine
