Location description from owner

The Amalfi Coast region

The region is renowned for its marvellous landscape, historical monuments, amazing local cuisine, original home of the pizza and mozzarella cheese, limoncello and much more.
One of the most famous coastlines in the world and a must see. Naples is the regional capital. Tourist attractions include the Greek temples at Paestum, the Roman ruins at Pompeii and Herculaneum, the volcanoes of Vesuvius, Campi Flegrei and Ischia, the Amalfi Coast (Costiera Amalfitana) from Sorrento to Salerno and the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida.
Average 28 degrees centigrade in summer, 10 degrees centigrade in winter.

Vietri sul Mare

The Amalfi Coast (la Costiera Amalfitana) is a beautiful and world renowned stretch of mountainous coastline south of Naples, in Campania. The southern end of the Bay of Naples stretches out in a peninsula that reaches towards the island of Capri. The southern side of the peninsula is dotted with picturesque villages and towns clinging giddily to cliffs; this is what is known as the Amalfi Coast.
Well-accustomed to catering for affluent foreign tourists, the area offers a generous selection of restaurants, bars, boutiques, boat trips.
The main town of the coast is, of course, Amalfi with its Duomo Sant'Andrea, an imposing Cathedral dating from the 10th century and well worth a visit. Other popular destinations are Ravello and Positano. Ravello is famous for its beautiful gardens perched high in the mountains above the sea, and for its classical music concerts. Positano is on the coast to the west of Amalfi, and is a traditionally 'posh' resort, famous for its colourful boutiques and its exclusive restaurants.
On the Coast the views are undeniably breathtaking, and away from the main road and the tourist hot-spots you can still discover the peace that charmed visitors for centuries.
The public transport along the coast is cheap and efficient. The bus company SITA operates regular blue buses along the coast, from Salerno to Amalfi and the other coastal towns.
In the summer months ferries connect the principal towns of the Amalfi Coast area, and can be a quicker and more relaxing alternative to the buses. The ferry company Travelmar operates services between Salerno, Minori, Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento. Salerno to Amalfi takes approximately 35 minutes.

Day trips from the apartment by car/bus, reachable in less than 1 hour :
- Paestum , Greek temples
- Pompeii , Roman ruins
- Vesuvius, the volcano
- Amalfi /Ravello/Positano, the other villages of the Amalfi Coast
- Sorrento
- the city of Naples
- Island of Capri (by ferry)

Salerno it is only 4 kilometers from Vietri. From Salermo you can take the ferries to visit Capri .

“Lovely apartment”

Reviewed 12 Jul 2016

The owner could not have been more helpful, or her brother -in-law who manages the place. The view is wonderful and the apartment is very spacious and comfortable. The beds are good. Two sofas, that's quite hard to find and good showers in both bathrooms. You can walk into Salerno quite easily (30 mins) with a very interesting view of the container port. Salerno is very pleasant and untouristy. You can reach Pompeii and vesuvius easily from the apartment. train station is 10 mins walk up the hill, trains direct to Pompeii and from there you can get shuttle bus to Vesuvius. Vietri has quite an authentic feel to it but be prepared to walk up and down hills a lot!

“Nice apartment. Brilliant views. Good for a very quiet trip.”

Overall this is a lovely apartment, very spacious with fantastic reviews. It's all about the view here. The terrace is wonderful and a lovely place to catch the afternoon rays. The apartment is well equipped and had everything we needed. The one thing the apartment is that it could do with some wifi and a complete welcome pack. We found a lot of leaflets in the cupboard but no complete info pack on general info about the apartment. We had to head over to the hotel across the road for wifi. There we several thunder storms while we were there - some during the night and unfortunately the back bedroom was very noisy as the rain kept hitting off something tin. We think this might be from the apartment above but aren't 100% sure. The location of the apartment is ok. It's in between the main village and the marina. As expected you need to be able to handle lots of steps and inclines. There's very nice restaurants down at the marina as well as in the village itself. The village is quaint with a couple of small grocery stores. It's a traditional Italian village so be prepared to learn a few words of Italian as many don't speak English. The hotel across the road is lovely - great wine and most importantly cheap. They also don't mind you using their wifi. Very, very nice people. They even ordered taxi's for us! The train line form Veitri is good which you can get direct to Pompeii or Salerno. Unfortunately there was a train strike when we were there and we got stranded in Pompeii which involved a a 2.5 hour bus journey so check ahead when hopping on the train. The Amalfi coast is stunning. Unfortunately we didn't get the weather but we didn't let that spoil a lovely family holiday.

“Heaven”

If you are looking for a relaxing holiday, look no further. Vietri is the perfect place to chill out and witness the friendliness of Italy. This was our first Italian holiday and we look forward to returning. The apartment is enormous with large airy rooms. Plenty of space for everyone and having two bathrooms is perfect. With wonderful views from the balconies across the med, what more could you wish for!

“FANTASTIC VIEWS FROM THE BALCONY”

Reviewed 3 Aug 2013

The apartment was in an ideal location for the beaches nearby. The apartment was well furnished with a fantastic balcony, the only downside was the lack of air conditioning in the apartment, as whilst we were there the temperature was in the high 30c ,which was quite unusual for early June. The village shops and restaurants are only fifteen mins, walk away and you can get a bus or train to almost anywhere in the area. The owner (Bianca) was very helpful and kept in touch with helpful advice. In all a very enjoyable holiday!

“Absolutely Awesome! We will be back!”

Reviewed 14 Oct 2012

We are 6 friends from Canada who rented this villa for 2 weeks in September 2012 (returned home a week ago). Although the pictures on the web site give a good idea of the rooms and the view of the area, when you walk-in this villa you cannot help but be overwelmed. We were met at the villa by Alberto who was very friendly and ensured we had all the information needed for our stay. Alberto was also available at all times if we had questions or if needed information. The Villa: This place was very clean. The view from the balcony is breathtaking. We ate most of our suppers at the Villa as we wanted to take advantage of such a beautiful apartment with all its charms. The living room is the focal point of this apart. It is large and has 2 huge french doors that open to a very wide balcony. Every morning, we would have our breakfast on the balcony. Rooms were large and comfortable. 2 bathroom was a must with 6 adults. 2 dining rooms! and we took advantage of every room enjoying our evening meal in the large dining room with its windows open, leaving a light breeze in. Every meal in this dining room was special! Vietri : this small village populated by warm people who welcome their tourists as if they had met them before. After just a few days, it is easy to make friends with the locals (even if you do not speak the language). The food in restaurants is not only inexpensive, but very tasty! Everything in Italy tastes so fresh! Especially the pizza! In our opinion, Vietri is the best place to have your pied à terre during your stay in the Amalfi coast because it is not a tourist place and you get to see and be part of an authentic Italian village for a short period of time. For tourist questions, there is a Tourist office in the village. There is also 2 beautiful beaches at 10 minute walk from the Villa - Nice!!!!!! Amalfi coast: Vietri is close to all villages and areas that we wanted to visit from Capri to Sorrento including Pompeii and Vesuvius. The farthest was Sorrento - approx 1.5 hours. We had rented a van (parked on the street during our 2 week stay without problems) and we were able to get around without too much trouble. (Driving in Italy is an experience and not for everybody - Vietri has a city to city bus service, local bus service, train, boat service from the neighbouring city of Salerno therefore a car is not necessary). There is a great boat service to Capri, Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento leaving the port of Salerno. It is the best way to see the coast. Booking the villa: The person you book from is Bianca and she is very professional and well organized. I would rent this place again in a heart beat! (we are planning to go back in a couple of years and we hope it will still be available)! thank you Bianca for giving us the opportunity to stay in your villa! We will never forget this vacation! Celine

“It does not get much better than this”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2012

Fantastic location, excellent three bedroom unit with amazing space, panoramic views, easy walking distance to beach, shops, restaurants and transport. The village was natural, rustic and reasonably unspoiled from tourism. The warmth expressed by the locals was refreshing. A family reunion of 6 adults who stayed a week, but should have stayed a month.

“Comfortable and good value apartment in great spot”

Reviewed 7 Sep 2011

A very spacious, comfortable apartment with beautiful views of the sea from most rooms and a large rooftop terrace for al fresco dining. An easy walk down to the beach or up to the charming town which is much less touristy than the better known towns on the Amalfi coast. Parking is also much easier than elsewhere along this coast. The motorway connection makes travel to the sites near Naples (such as Pompeii, Vesuvius, Herculaneum etc) really easy. Strongly recommended is a jaunt down to the fabulous Greek temples at Paestum with wonderful wide sandy beaches nearby (as recommended by the apartment's owner).
