Fernside cottage is proud to announce we have again been awarded the 4 star Gold rating for the excellence of the cottage, the facilites and service we provide . This is a high standard award from Quality in Tourism and means you can be assured of a wonderful cottage to visit.

Situated in a quiet & tranquil corner of the beautiful village of Thornton-in-Craven and enjoying outstanding far reaching views across the stunning rolling hills & moors, Fernside Cottage offers luxury accommodation making it an ideal retreat for couples. Walkers will delight in the adjacent Pennine Way and the Yorkshire Dales are just a very short drive away. The historic market town of Skipton with it's 4 days of market is just 5 miles away and has a wealth of interesting shops, the Leeds to Liverpool canal & not forgetting the embsay steam railway for the perfect day trip. The settle to Carlisle railway is just a short distance. There is also a very frequent bus service to many places of interest with the bus stop just a few minutes walk from the cottage. Leave your car & take the bus.

Fernside Cottage is furnished and decorated to a particularly high standard, the bedroom has a luxurious sleigh bed with new 2000 spring mattress ensuring a restful nights sleep and for colder evenings there is the added luxury of electric blankets. The lounge, with it's breathtaking views has a sofa and 2 armchairs - one reclining, while the kitchen and dining area on the ground floor enjoy patio doors to the front which also have views across the valley to the moors and a small terrace with seating. The property boasts television in kitchen, bedroom and lounge and the kitchen is well equipped with built in fridge, oven, Nespresso Inissia coffee machine ,microwave, dishwasher & washer/dryer.

For those who wish to eat al fresco, a private enclosed lawned garden and patio has a rattan seating area and is ideal for lazy summer evenings.

Getting around

There is a bus stop within easy walking distance of the cottage with buses that run freqently in both directions, towards Skipton and the Dales or towards Pendle Witch country and on to Preston and Manchester. Bus routes are X43, 280 and X80 There is also a train station at Skipton covering all the major destinations and also a smaller station at Gargrave.

Interaction with guest

The cottage itself, while totally private and with it's own entrance and garden, is next door to my own residence and I will always greet you and show you around. Once you are happy with everything I shall totally respect your privacy but will be available should you need me for any reason.

The location is has wonderful views. and the cottage is very clean and modern. you could not ask for more . The owner is very welcoming and helpful. there are some nice local walks to the village. you are close Skipton. Harrogate ect, I am sure we will return again, Excellent.

Fernside was very clean & comfortable, there was everything provided to make it feel home from home. A very good bus service to many towns nearby including Manchester, Burnley & Skipton.

Re: needing a car, yes, it is great to go places under your own steam and in your own time but the bus stops for both directions (Yorkshire Dales, bronte country & Pendle Witch country are just 2 mis walk around the corner and they run every 15 mins. Also, the beautiful Pennine Way crosses through the village of Thornton in Craven and is very popular with walkers. Thank you again

We really loved staying at Fernside Cottage, it was a ideal location for day trips by bus and train around the Dales and to Skipton. Very quiet and clean which were our main concerns. How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Pauline (the owner) a message.

If Pauline (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
