Location description from owner

The England region

There is a wealth of history and natural beauty waiting to be explored along the Sussex Heritage Coast. The Downs around Eastbourne are recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty. The famous beauty spot, Beachy Head is only a short drive away. Beachy Head is the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain. At 530 feet high, the majestic cliffs provide magnificent views.

East Dean is a beautiful South Downs village close to Beachy Head and Birling Gap beach. Sample beers from the Beachy Head Brewery at old smugglers pub, The Tiger Inn on the village green. Visit restaurants including the Thai Terre where you will experience their superb Thai cuisine, or perhaps stop off for a while at the Hikers Rest cafe and gift shop. The Seven Sisters Sheep Centre and the East Dean Market (every Weds morning) are also worth a visit.

The nearby Seven Sisters Country Park comprises of nearly 700 acres of land. The Park is named after the famous Seven Sisters chalk cliffs. Next to the famous chalk cliffs is Cuckmere Haven (also known as the Cuckmere Estuary), which has been one of our favourite family walking spots for many years. Situated between Eastbourne and Seaford, the river Cuckmere winds its leisurely way through wide flood plains, twisting and turning with its oxbow bends before emerging on to the pebble beach at Seaford Head. A visit to the Exceat Tea Rooms for lunch or afternoon tea after your walk is a must.

Nestling in the nearby Cuckmere valley is the beautiful old Sussex village, Alfriston, which has a range of shops mainly specialising in gifts, but also has restaurants to enjoy.

Lewes is a historic town with ancient villages and picturesque downland set in the heart of the South Downs. Lewes has a variety of restaurants, cafes and shops to enjoy.

A visit to Brighton during your stay is a definite! Brighton is approximately 40 minutes by car from Eastbourne. Being the largest and most famous seaside resort in Sussex, Brighton offers a whole range of activities and attractions to suit everyone. Brighton has a mix of specialist shopping in The Lanes, a wealth of superb restaurants, beachfront fun and year round events. Attractions include an exotic palace, The Royal Pavilion, the pier, museums, Preston Manor, Brighton Marina and much more. If you are after a range of music events, the Brighton Centre and the Brighton Dome stage classic to contemporary acts. Brighton is a historic city with a modern twist and we just love our regular visits.

The village of Battle, whose name originates from the Battle of Hastings in 1066, fought between Harold the Saxon king and William the Conqueror, is worth a visit. Battle High Street has some quaint and interesting shops and restaurants together with a Norman church.

Hertmonceux is a village near Hailsham in East Sussex and is home to the magnificent Herstmonceux Castle.

Bexhill on Sea is also situated in 1066 country between the towns of Eastbourne and Hastings. Bexhill is set amongst some picturesque countryside with an array of castles and historic attractions to explore.

Hastings lies on the Sussex coast and is made up of the historic old town and the modern town. Hastings is well known for the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and is home to Europe's largest beach launched fishing fleet. Attractions include the cliff-top country park, Hastings pier and the White Rock Theatre. There are many events staged throughout the year.

A little further afield in Sussex is the beautiful town of Rye which is also bathed in history. A relaxed wander through the cobbled streets will reveal well preserved historic houses and a medieval church. Rye offers a range of things to do from visiting Rye Museum to enjoying the tea rooms and quaint shops .

Pevensey Bay

Pevensey Bay is situated just a few miles from Eastbourne, nestled within the heart of 1066 country. Pevensey itself is a small village built on the east side of Pevensey castle. Pevensey Bay nestles within the beautiful and unspoilt stretch of coastline also known as 'the sunshine coast', due to the great deal of sunshine it enjoys throughout the year.

A few miles down the road towards Eastbourne is The Sovereign Harbour Marina providing a wide selection of restaurants and bars to suit every taste. The adjacent Waterfront Retail Park comprises a multiplex cinema, restaurant and selection of popular retail outlets including an Asda superstore.

Drive a little further along the coast road and you will reach the Eastbourne seafront, offering plenty of family attractions, including water sports, children's theme parks, mini golf, gardens, a Victorian Pier, a Napoleonic fortress, a leisure pool, the Dotto Train, boat trips and a 1930's Bandstand. There are many special events taking place throughout the course of the year in Eastbourne, including world class tennis at Devonshire Park and the spectacular Airbourne Show.

“Comfortable, beautifully clean, fully-equipped and right on the beach”

Reviewed 2 Jan 2017

We rented the bungalow for a family Christmas get-together. Pip and Steve had decorated it beautifully and the Christmas tree and other lights were a really thoughtful addition. It's right on the beach and we were treated to some spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Lots of little touches....the cake on arrival was welcome! We walked along the beach to the local pub and there was a playground close by too. It was just perfect for us - 4 adults and 4 grandchildren. Thank you Pip and Steve - we would love to visit again.

Owner's reply: We so wanted you all to have a warm, home from home Christmas welcome and so appreciate your lovely comments. The sunrises and sunsets are a real gift aren't they. The Beach House is perfectly situated for all the family, whether you stay put and enjoy relaxing inside, or popping out for a meal, or to a playground with the children. We would love to welcome you all back to The Beach House again!

“Relaxing, beautiful view, comfortable, spotless home away from home”

Reviewed 12 Oct 2016

We spent 3 nights at the Beach House in September. Information for arrival from the owner was informative and helpful. It was easy to find. The only glitch we had was struggling with the lock to get the key, but we eventually figured it out! The property was very clean and welcoming. There was a cake, tea, milk and cookies to greet us. It is an open plan living area with windows across the whole front to give a lovely view of the beach (mostly pebble with some sand, we were recommended to wear shoes even on the sand as there are some creatures that can sting you) and sea, via the garden. Because of the windows the area is very light and airy, and the seating is plentiful and comfortable (although there were only 2 of us!). The three bedrooms were bright too and beds were comfortable to sleep in. Kitchen is amazingly equipped with everything you could want. The garden is very pleasant to sit out in. There are other amenities such as kayaks etc which we did not use. The surrounding area is full of interesting places to visit and so many things to do, Hasting Castle in 15 minutes away and there are many other historic sites locally. Since the weather was glorious, we did not venture far and it was lovely to relax and spend time on the beach without having to "go out to the beach" There are local shops and restaurants close by. We didn't want to leave, we would have liked to stay a few more days but hope we will return at some point.

Owner's reply: Wow! What a wonderful review! Thank you so much. Do come to stay again when you are next in the country.

“The beach house was lovely and relaxing.”

Reviewed 21 Apr 2016

The beach house was excellent and the views of the sea were amazing. It was lovely and peaceful lazing by the sea. The local attractions were easy to get to including places like Brighton. The property was on the beach which made it more relaxing, it was spacious and had everything in it to enhance our quality of stay. It was good to have the internet to look up things to do and places to go.

Owner's reply: We are so glad that your stay at The Beach House was everything that you wanted it to be for you all. The situation of The Beach House, being literally on the beach makes it a very special place to come to unwind. We agree that trips to Brighton are so easy and there are so many great places to go. You must all come again!

“A room with a view”

Reviewed 11 Sep 2015

The Beach House is a great place to stay. The view from the lounge/diner/kitchen is beautiful & there's even a wall mirror in the kitchen so that when facing away you can still see the sea! The house is very well equipped & was immaculately clean & tidy. The beds were all very comfortable, as were the armchairs & sofa. I took my elderly parents for a short break & they were in heaven looking at the sea & watching the world walk & sail by. Renters should however note there is a £15 per person laundry supplement added to the rental cost when comparing rental prices.

Owner's reply: What a really lovely review! Thank you so much for pointing out the perfect situation of The Beach House and the layout of the lounge/kitchen/diner making the most of the view. We are so glad that you found everything 'immaculately clean and tidy' and thank you too for pointing out the extra laundry and linen supplement that we state on our pricing page for future guest's consideration. It is great to hear that your elderly parents were able to thoroughly relax and 'watch the world walk and sail by.' Do come and stay again very soon.

“Bright, comfortable and cheerful bungalow in a beautiful location.”

Eight of my extended family stayed for a week in this lovely bungalow. It was a huge bonus to have the use of the kayaks and my 10 year old daughter especially appreciated the swing bench! We had a truly memorable holiday and all our needs were catered for, we would definitely book again.

Owner's reply: We are so pleased that we are able to comfortably accomodate eight guests at The Beach House, particularly when extended family want to holiday together like yourselves, or when two families want to stay together. The kayaks are very popular with our guests, as you so rightly state and the swing seat on the patio is so relaxing! Thank you for your glowing review and do come back to stay again soon.

The beach location was beautiful and very relaxing. The house was lovely. Well equipped and very clean. It is well located for either a relaxing week or a holiday enjoying the surrounding area. We did some of each, really enjoying the beach walks and the views. We had good weather and could make use of the garden. The welcome card and cake on arrival were a special touch. Would definitely return.

Owner's reply: We are so glad that you found The Beach House so well equipped and clean. It really is in the most perfect spot right on the beach that you don't need to go anywhere else. We are looking forward to welcoming you back again soon and the welcome cake and chocolates will be waiting!

Three generations of our family had a wonderful time here. The house is clean, light, comfortable and well equipped. We enjoyed a BBQ outside on the terrace and also a family lunch round the dining table. There are lots of places to visit locally including Pevensey Castle, Beachy Head and Sovereign Harbour.

Owner's reply: We are so glad that three generations of your family were able to spend quality time together at The Beach House. Thank you for your complimentary comments on how clean, light and comfortable the bungalow is. Alfresco dining is just perfect outside too! Do come back to stay again soon.

We can't recommend the beach house enough. It has everything you need. We felt so relaxed and at home. The view greeting us each morning never ceased to amaze us. Our 6 yr old son didn't want to go anywhere other than stay at house playing in the garden......the beach!!! The greeting of a yummy cake & chocolates was a lovely touch. Pip has made this place gorgeous and we will definitely be back to create more amazing memories of simple relaxed family fun. Thank you for sharing your special house. X
