“Very well equipped, extremely comfortable cottage in a lovely location.”

Reviewed 1 Jan 2014

Pleasant walks along rural lanes, nearby beaches, historic sites and Country Houses/Gardens all within easy reach. The owner is extremely knowledgable about the area as well as very friendly and welcoming. Nearby pub serves good food if you want a rest from cooking in the kitchen which is fully equipped with everything one could need.Abundant wild life to watch in surrounding grounds, also plenty of activities are provided for children. Three visits so far - and there will be more.

“The sort of place that you immediately feel relaxed and at home in.”

The owner is very approachable, helpful and friendly and is usually on-hand. The property itself has a wonderful homely feel with wonderful views over the countryside. Arriving gives a wonderful sense of tranquility and getting away from it all. The pub almost opposite is a gem and like stepping back in time but with a menu to suit most tastes. It is well placed for visiting cosmopolitan Hastings for its interests, quaintness and hubbub whilst well positioned for contrasting Rye and Winchelsea beach. The setting is wonderful. There's not much not to like about this place-except sometimes the weather.

“Fabulously clean and equipped cottage - very friendly and helpful owner.”

We have stayed at the Retreat several times over the last 4 years, and have always found the cottage well equipped and very clean. All conveniences are there, including a library of books / magazines for those wet days! Also a comprehensive number of leaflets etc. giving details of all local events/places to visit etc. It is a very quiet place, set well back (approx. 100 yards) from the road, and overlooking, at the rear, lovely open countryside. Within easy reach of Hastings, Bexhill, Eastbourne, Rye etc. along the south coast, and only 3 minutes drive from the local beach. A great place for a restful break.
