Description from owner

Description

Badenoch, standing in its own grounds, has a wide outlook over the Strath of the Upper Spey to the Cairngorms; the Monadhliath Mountains lie behind.

It is an ideal base for any group wishing to enjoy walking, climbing, golfing, fishing, in the beautiful surroundings of the Cairngorm National Park. Ideal also for extended family groups - or, indeed, for smaller groups who just want to have lots of space!

Open fields to the front. River Spey, village and golf course within 3 minutes walk. There is a fairly large, quite new Coop store with fresh meat, fresh baking, fruit and veg, wine and spirits - open till 10pm at night. Several restaurants and coffee shops and bars and a takeaway.

A very friendly village with just tons of things to do within a few minutes or, if you want to go further afield, you can go to Fort William in an hour by car, to Inverness in 45 minutes, to Perth in an hour. The railway station is just down the road and can take you north or south

Location description from owner

The Aviemore and the Cairngorms region

Newtonmore is a fine base for touring, at the junction of the A9 - the Great Highland Road between Perth and Inverness - and the road to Fort William and the West.

Newtonmore is now known as the 'Walking Centre of Scotland'. The village has a 12Km trail all around it - The Wildcat Trail - passing by the River Spey, the River Calder and the beautiful Glen Banchor. There are dozens of other walks within easy reach of Newtonmore, from short strolls by the river to more challenging walks into the hills. For climbers, the central nature of Newtonmore means that all of the 4,000 foot plus mountains of Scotland are within easy reach, surrounded by a still wider choice of Munros, whilst just ten minutes away are the crags of Creag Dhu where some of the trickiest climbing routes in Scotland can be found.

The area is also great for cyclists with the mountain bike centre at nearby Wolftrax and many cycle tracks throughout the area. There is a hire centre for bikes in the village.

Newtonmore Golf Course is a beatifully scenic course - open to all - and there are many varied courses within easy driving distance such as Kingussie Golf Course and the new Spey Valley Golf Course at Aviemore.

Newtonmore

The Area of Badenoch and Strathspey makes up the western half of the Cairngorms National Park - the largest national park in Britain. Within the area are a host of attractions from the Steam Railway between Aviemore and Broomhill to the Cairngorm Funicular Railway and Britain's only Reindeer Centre.

The world-renowned outdoor Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore relates the history of the Highlander in a graphic and entertaining way and offers free admission. Kids and adults alike can spend many hours wandering this fascinating glimpse of life through many centuries.

Newtonmore has its Highland Games every year on the first Saturday in August. A great day out for all the family. Games are held throughout the Highlands during the summer months.

At the same venue - The Eilan - you can see our championship Newtonmore shinty team playing at home, if you are lucky, on alternate Saturdays.

“Photo's don't do it justice. Excellent! Recommended.”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2016

Upon our arrival, we were greeted kindly by Yvonne, and she could not have been more helpful with our enquiries of both house and surrounding area. We were told of many things nearby, not to mention "the wild cat trail" in Newtonmore itself. What fun for both adult and child alike! The house itself is wonderful. Location was perfect for short walks to shops, golf course, bowling club, train station and Newtonmore shinty. The house was more than equipped with all necessities for our whole family of 16 (3years-70years Young) to enjoy a truly magnificent holiday away in a lovely, homely environment. Recommended to all families looking to get away , enjoy ,and create more happy memories! A big thumbs up from the Beatties.

“Amazing House for a weekend away with friends and family!”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2015

This was my second time at Badenoch House. I took a large group of friends for the weekend to celebrate my 30th birthday. The house is beautiful, warm and spacious, and great value for money if you have a large group (and fill all the rooms as I did). The dining room, kitchen and sitting room are all brilliant for both catering and relaxing. The bedrooms are well presented and very welcoming with bed linen and towels provided. I will definitely be back!
