Location description from owner

The England region

The Isle of Wight is the ideal choice for a holiday "away from it all", in one of the sunniest spots in Britain. The beaches and countryside are simply beautiful, and The Brew House sits right in the middle of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a series of fabulous walking trails, and we are actually on the Bembridge Trail, one half of the famous annual "Walk the Wight". This 26-mile walk attracts over 10,000 walkers and is part of the May "Isle of Wight Walking Festival", the other walking festival being in September. We are also just a few hundred metres away from one of the best cycle paths on the Island. As well as many, many tourist attractions, all within easy reach, the Island was home for many years to Queen Victoria, and Osborne House is an absolute must, the house and the gardens both being outstanding. The famous Garlic Farm is just a short walk across the fields from The Brew House, and as well as an excellent farm shop, this also has one of the very best cafés on the Island - a real treat.Another highlight for many of our guests has been Chessell Pottery Barns, where you can paint your own Bridgewater pottery, as well as many of the Pottery Café's own designs. This is also the home of the official Best Cream Tea on the Island!

Newchurch

Knighton is a tiny hamlet, a real rural retreat and the perfect location for walkers and cyclists at any time of the year. The famous Garlic Farm is just a short walk across the fields from The Brew House, and as well as an excellent farm shop, this also has one of the very best cafés on the Island - a real treat.

“Wonderful cosy cottage with wecoming hosts!”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2016

We loved our stay at the Brew House Cottage. It was well equipped and tastefully decorated. We were met on arrival by Ali and David who were wonderful hosts. They had provided a welcome hamper with homemade cakes, jam, and other goodies which was a lovely touch. There is a fabulous wood burner for chilly evenings in, and the cottage is situated in a pretty village. There is a fab local pub (Pointer Inn) but they were fully booked while we were there (need to book in advance). We visit Morgans Restaurant in Shanklin which is highly recommended, excellent meal and service. We will definitely be recommending the cottage to all our friends and family and will return soon!

We will have to book you in at The Pointer Inn well in advance next time you stay at the Brew House - we will look forward to welcoming you back here!

“Beautiful, comfortable holiday cottage”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2015

We spent an enjoyable 4 nights at The Brew House. It is an extremely peaceful, comfortable and convenient place to stay. Ali and David (the owners) are very welcoming and helpful. Delicious welcome hamper with home made cake and preserves. They will book the ferry for you, provide directions, ideas and advice on where to visit/eat, lend you bikes etc. The children's bedroom is delightful and there are lots of books and toys for them to use. (Something for all ages). We enjoyed walking from Yarmouth to Freshwater Bay, visiting Osborne House, walking along coast to Steephill Cove. Lovely cottage, we hope to return.

“this is a lovingly thought through, personal, cosy and rustic getaway with excellent provision for young children”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2015

We travelled to the Isle of Wight as a young family of three, having struggled to get any sort of time away together for the last six months of our 14month old daughters little life. Part of the reason was because at that age, you worry about provision for these children, and so you just think-it's easier to stay at home. There is So much positive stuff to say about the brew house, but above all, the care and attention to detail in the house means that you really want for nothing. My wife is allergic to feathers so hypoallergenic duvet was provided, the knives were sharp, the jams and cake given on arrival were delicious, it was clean and the heating was easy to operate. The child's room is just gorgeous and we wanted to transplant it into our own house, there were toys and well chosen story books for bedtime. To have a genuinely restful break with a 14 month old where you feel like you've caught up on a year of missed patches of sleep, for the price this is is remarkable. We'd thoroughly recommend it, and if you have a little one, the sea view wildlife park near ryde is well worth a visit for the ducks alone, also loads of strokeable wallabies, lovely otters, and plenty more. Garlic farm does great coffee, another indispensable ingredient. We'll certainly be back.

“A truly lovely property.”

If you want a peaceful holiday property in superb location then Brew House is for you, Tastefully decorated, very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The owners had left a lovely welcome pack which included scrumptious home made cake and flapjacks along with several other delicious goodies. Great location for walking, the local pub (The Pointer) is within walking distance and the food superb, well worth the walk! The weather was lovely when we visited so spent a lot of time on one of the many beautiful beaches.

“Fabulous stay at the Brew House”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2014

My wife and I had a lovely week staying at the Brew House, which is a great property offering good accommodation for couples and small families. Everything was clean and tidy, it was comfortable and spacious and the welcome hamper was a delight! Homemade cake, jam and marmalade, milk in the fridge and a bottle of fizz to greet you certainly gets the holiday off to a good start. The owners in the adjacent farmhouse were very welcoming, keen to help out if needed but never intrusive during our stay. If you have read about the recent flooding event at the property, do not be concerned - everything has been fully refurbished and an extensive drainage system installed in the grounds to prevent a repeat event. The Pointers Inn (five minute drive) serves good food and are very friendly (though busy, so do book ahead) and there are lots of places of interest to visit. We enjoyed Ventnor Botanic Gardens, Brading Roman Villa, Mottistone Manor Garden, The Needles Batteries and of course Osborne House, to name a few. Would definitely recommend to others.

“Excellent cottage, great location.”

Very comfortable cottage with comfortable King size bed & extremely well equipped kitchen and probably the best welcome hamper we've experienced. Excellent overbath shower in bathroom. Stayed with our 3 & 7 year olds. There were lots of toys & games together with some small ride-ons and the cottage had plenty of books for all ages. The owners Ali & David couldn't have been more helpful whilst not being at all intrusive. They kitted us out with really decent bikes, a chid seat & alligator bar for older daughter, so that we could all enjoy the lovely, safe, level & surfaced cycle path that runs very close to the cottage. Perfect for cycling or walking along, goes past a nature reserve & you can get to Sandown or Newport. They pointed us in the direction of decent rock pools (providing buckets & nets) and the good local pub, where we had an enjoyable meal. There are numerous footpaths very close to the cottage, as well as all over the Island, so would be ideal for keen walkers too. Good location for getting to everywhere on the Island. Farmer Jacks farm shop within a few minutes drive supplied fantastic bread, meat, fruit, veg and most other food needs. There is a pretty courtyard with table & chairs and use of the grassed area at the front, but as the cars are also parked here its not really suitable for ball games etc. It does have very steep stairs, but there are stair gates available.

“Lovely cosy house”

Reviewed 27 Jul 2014

Perhaps the best equiped holidayhome I ever rented. Due to the big floods of last winter the kitchen is brandnew and has all you can wish for. And otherwise Ali will help you out. Beds are good as well. The children loved al the toys ( train, playmobil, puzzles and lots more). Bikes available, also for children. Beautifull big patio full of flowers. The weather was so good (hot summer weather) that sometimes I missed the openness for some wind (and a view) but in cooler weather the patio will be a real benefit. Beaches in easy reach.

“Super fantastic!”

Reviewed 2 Dec 2013

This holiday exceeded all our expectations and was exactly what we needed. The welcome and ongoing hospitality from the Cripps family was exceptional. Every need was catered for even down to child safety equipment and kids entertainment (books, toys, bikes, dvd's). The Brew House provided a real home from home experience offering all the kitchen appliances and equipment you need for self catering. Despite a lot of the main attractions on the island being closed for the winter, we still found plenty to do to entertain. The garlic farm being a particular favourite (only a short walk from the brew house). A wealth of information and books on the local area was provided at the brew house, and Ali herself even recommended places to visit/dine. We would definately recommend to friends and family, and look foward to retunring ourselves in the near future

“A perfect setting for a relaxing home from home break”

Reviewed 11 Nov 2013

I had visited the Brew House in the past and was delighted to find it was available for my holiday with my husband. Ali, David and James were superb hosts as always, and were always willing to help if needed. We particularly enjoyed having such a well equipped kitchen (with dishwasher which is a novelty for us!), and having relaxing evenings in front of the fire. The Brew House is lovely and cosy, a real home from home, and is perfect for a relaxing retreat away. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, and we made the most of local walks and cycle paths.

“A lovely cottage, friendly hosts, beautiful location.”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2013

The Brew House is a superb holiday cottage. It is very well equipped, clean, comfortable and a real home from home. The cottage is located in a beautiful area and it is a great base from which to explore the island. The owners are a lovely family who have taken the trouble to add lots of thoughtful finishing touches to ensure that you have a great holiday. They are always there to help but aren't intrusive. They know the island well and gave us great advice, such as the best beaches and even the best pudding in the local pub (the Eton Mess was superb - thank-you David). The welcome tray of local and homemade goodies (including Ali's delicious chocolate cake) really helped to settle us into a relaxing holiday and their son James made a great paperboy! We found the Brew House to be an excellent holiday cottage and hope to be back in 2014. Many thanks to Ali, David and James for making our holiday so special.
