Description from owner

Set in its own mature garden enjoying stunning south facing views over Coverdale the cottage is a popular venue for families and friends alike. With three comfortable double beds, 2 spacious singles and 2 bathrooms the house easily accommodates a mix of age ranges.

In the summer the two patios at the front and the back of their house come into their own. A barbecue is provided for al fresco dining. In the winter, a modern central heating system and two wood burning stoves ensures that the house is toasty warm after a trip out in the cold.

For those with small children, tractors, cows and sheep are the main act . For older children the award winning Forbidden Corner is just a couple of miles down the road, not to mention Bolton Castle (real live knights!) and Lightwater Valley (the longest rollercoaster in Europe).

For those wishing to burn some calories Pen Hill is but a short walk away and provides magnificent views over the hole of Wensleydale as well as access to the best fish restaurant in the Dales, the Wensleydale Heifer. For a swift pint after a walk or a more relaxed evening tipple the community run pub in the neighbouring village Carlton is 15 minutes walk away. All in all a great place to spend any amount of time.

“Half Term Break”

Reviewed 24 Feb 2019

Just returned from Mile House East, where we stayed for 4 nights. The house is stunning and is set in a quiet village with an abundance of walks around the local area. The house is really well equipped with everything you could possibly need! We particularly liked the room over the barn with a snooker table and a great choice of board games and DVD’s to watch. Leyburn is a 10 minute drive away and the local pub just 2mins drive down the road to Carlton. We would recommend the walk from Bolton Castle to Aysgarth Fallls which takes in some stunning views of the local area. We stayed as 2 families with a pet dog and had a thoroughly enjoyable break.

“Homely cottage with beautiful views”

Reviewed 29 Dec 2017

I stayed here as a group of two families with children under five and the grandparents. It's really quirky with a well stocked library, cosy downstairs living room, well equipped kitchen, cosy but spacious bedrooms and the bonus of an upstairs living room / games room. As it was over Christmas we had a tree decorated downstairs and decorations upstairs which was a nice touch. There is a lovely garden with swing set and a patio area which I can imagine are well used on summer days. There are walks from the door and it's in a brilliant part of the Yorkshire dales, handy for many tourist destinations. In our case we rode on a santa special on the Wensleydale railway, had a mooch around leyburn and lunch at tenants auction house, and visited fountains abbey. The kitchen would benefit from a tray to carry drinks from downstairs to upstairs living room and the option of a fire guard to use when the fires were lit.
