The Florida region
As it is situated on Sand Key, the region is dominated by the ocean and the abundance of wild life, especially birds. There are many miles of fine sandy beaches - shell collecting is a favourite activity. Swimming in the warm, clear water and snorkling are much enjoyed. The condo is right by Madeira Beach, with direct access to the beach from the condo. It is a 25 minute walk from John's Pass, a waterway connected by a bridge to Treasure Island. Here is an old fishing village which has become a popular spot, with a boardwalk for viewing wildlife and boats going through the pass to the open sea, and there are many attractive small shops, open air restaurants and bars. The condo is a 30 minute drive from Tampa, where the old cigar making district is of historic interest , and a 20 minute drive from St Petersburg, where the world famous Salvador Dali museum is situated and the interesting area known as 'The Pier'. Tyrone Mall, which has many department stores such as Macy's, Dillards and Old Navy, is accessible by bus from the condo -a 15 minute ride, or 10 minutes by car. The Suncoast Trolly buses travel the length of Gulf Boulevard at regular intervals, to the end of Sand Key to Clearwater. Busch Gardens, a popular funfair and theme and wild life park, is about a 35 minutes away by car,as is Ellenten Outlet Mall, and the drive to Disneyworld/ Seaworld/Universal Studios in Orlando takes about 1hour 30 minutes. There are many other well kept parks with trails and an abundance of wild life and gardens.
Madeira Beach is a fairly spread out locality with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the intracoastal waterway on the other. “Slice of Paradise”
We stayed in Ocean Sands for 10 nights after a hectic week in Orlando. It is approximately one hour forty from Orlando depending on traffic. The condo itself is perfectly located right on the beach. Erica, the owner, has provided everything you would ever need in there from deckchairs and beach towels to cable TV and a fully equipped kitchen. A welcome folder details everything you need to know about the condo and area. Previous guests have added their own recommendations etc. Connecting to WiFi was easy and with teenagers a welcome addition. The pool area is lovely and open late. We never made use of the BBQ area though lots did, just bring your own coals, light them and cook. The whole booking process was quick, easy with Erica returning any E Mails promptly. We also spoke personally on the phone prior to leaving the UK. John's Pass, with its eclectic mix of shops and restaurants is easily walkable along the beach (30mins or so) or a 2 minute drive away. The trolley bus stops directly outside the condo although as a family of 4 it was a couple dollars cheaper for us to get a taxi there. Sculleys serves particularly good fish and Bubba Gumps was a favourite with our kids. Watching dolphins and Pelicans from the boardwalk was fun. Madeira Beach is perfectly located for exploring the surrounding area and we did have plans to but found the condo itself to be so comfortable and the balcony and beach so inviting that we never ventured too far! Sunsets sitting on the balcony are simply stunning. Ellenton Prime Outlet (35 mins by car) is worth a visit, much quieter than its Orlando counterpart and we found some better bargains. As a family we would have no hesitation in recommending this condo for a holiday and would definitely return in the future.
“Beatiful Condo and Great Location”
The Condo was very comfortable and well equipped. The view was amazing with the balcony in front of both the lounge and master bedroom. In the mornings we would sit on the balcony watching the dolphins swim by and on one morning one of the dolphins decided to perform leaps out of the water. Some mornings we would walk along the beach to Johns pass with its boardwalk, gift shops and restaurants. Screwie Louies across the street from the condo served a great breakfast. We also took golf clubs and played 3 of the many courses in the vicinity. We would recommend this condo for its comfort, view and location.
“Once again a fantastic holiday in this lovely condo.”
This is the second time we have rented this condo and will not be the last.. My sister lives in Tampa and she comes over to stay with us for a much needed break as a busy nurse. The condo is extremely well equipped with everything you can think of. The lounge lovely and bright and we spent many a morning having breakfast on the balcony watching the dolphins swim past... Wonderful...The beach bar right next to the condo was refurbished in July 2014 and the food is great.. We frequently wandered over from the beach in our swimwear for lunch.. Sunset sees them with live music outside. Nothing better than lazing around all day on the beach to wander over for the sunset.. Sat back here in dreary Bolton UK writing this is very depressing!!! The Brown Boxer over the road from the Condo serves very good food and I was extremely surprised to find them serving my favorite wine! New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Brancott. Hard to find a good wine list in most places.. Beer list?..Yes... Which suited my husband perfectly.. I'm not complaining though.. Easy enough to buy nice wine and sit on the lovely balcony with candles and watch the ocean! Bliss.... There is a bus that stops outside the condo building and we frequently jumped on it to Johns Pass (my personal favorite place) If you like fish and seafood then check out The Friendly Fisherman and Scullys,,, But Walts Shack is a must.! There is no regular menu.. Just what he cooks that day!.. Fabulous!.. Winn Dixie over the road has some great bargains on fresh steaks and chicken!..We got some fabulous steaks, chicken breasts and fresh sirloin mince to make burgers in the "whoops" (Asda shoppers will be familiar with that!) There is a Winn Dixie loyalty card on the key ring for the condo which allows you to get other offers too! Make use of the big freezer in the condo! Take advantage of the Tikki bar and BBQ.. We had a couple of lovely family bbqs watching the sunset. We brought everything down from the condo in one of the shopping carts provided.. Fabulous! I could go on for hours about this beautiful place.. Believe me you won't be disappointed. Oh and if you like birds (as I do) there is a bird sanctuary just a few miles up the coast at Indian shores. It's free to get in and worth a look .. For avid walkers you can reach it by walking up the beach from the condo (a good couple of miles) heading in the Clearwater direction. All I can say now.. is have a great time.. I'm absolutely sure you will...
“Perfect and convenient location”
Fantastic location, very large comfortable unit with beautiful views.Perfect size for a small family. Pool was well maintained. Beach was spectacular.
“great condo on the beach.”
fantastic condo facing the beach, everything you wanted was here, towels. linens. beach chairs, super views.the balcony was the lenght off the condo.we had our breakfast here each day watching the dolphins. one off the pluses was the covered parking lot each condo had there own space.all. we have stayed in hotels around this area for the past 30years wish we had found this place years ago. shops and restaurants are all in walking distance so you don't need a car trolley stop to Clearwater right out side of condo.
“Once again a fabulous holiday”
This is the 4th year that we have rented this property, and once again it has lived upto our expectations, it is cool, clean and those view are to die for 3 weeks of bliss. Can't wait to return.
Stayed in your condo in June 2012 and loved every minute of it. Great views and a great location. I am considering booking again in the future.
“A Great Condo On The Beach With All Amenities.”
The Condo was presented in excellent condition. My wife and I were particularly impressed with the amenities provided which made staying for three weeks a pleasure. The location on the gulf coast meant it was very easy to spend time on the beach or visit places of interest , theme parks or the inevitable shopping malls.
“Lovely apartment, fabulous views”
We stayed at Erica's apartment for a week in April 2012 and could not have been more delighted. The apartment is spacious and beautifully appointed. The views to the ocean are amazing as are the sunsets. The apartment is literally on the beach. The beach itself is wonderful, plenty of other families there but not too busy. There is parking at the base of the building which is very handy. There is also a swimming pool and barbecue area. There is plenty to do around the area, St Johns Pass is only a short drive or can be walked. Erica is extremely helpful and is quick in dealing with any questions we had we arrived and when we were there. Overall, thoroughly recommended and we hope to visit again.
“We didn't stay long enough!'”
This lovely apartment was our home in Florida for just a few days after a busy week in the Orlando parks and I wish we could have stayed much longer. The apartment is spacious and very comfortable and we greatly appreciated the two bathrooms having teenage girls and the computer/internet facility. Being able to sit and dolphin watch from the balcony was a highlight and we did spot dolphins swimming by most days. The pool and hot tub were very clean and warm and we enjoyed using them in the evening as the sun went down. Spectacular sunsets !Everything we needed in an apartment was provided and more. The area is well served with a supermarket a short walk ( great salad bar if you dont feel like eating out) and various shops and restaurants. St Johns Pass is only a few miles away. This is lovely area to walk around and we took a dolphin and wildlife cruise from here that the whole family really enjoyed ( Hubbards marina cruises). We also ventured into St Petersburg and did a Segway tour around the pier which great fun and we went North to Tarpon Springs and Clearwater for browsing , shopping and the Aquarium. We are already saving to visit again and we will definitely be using this Ocean Sands apartment again if available. Many thanks to the efficient and friendly owner. Highly recommended.
