Originally built as an illegal pub in the 1860's, it was modernized in 2003. free WiFi. 4 poster bed.oil central heating woodburner.starter pack of logs provided. . It is situated in an area of outstanding beauty on the wild Atlantic Way. Many historical sites locally. Ideal walking country. Beauty spots include Glenmore Lake, Gleninchaquin Park, Derreen Gardens. Knockatee walk and drive. Wonderful views.We suggest you do shopping in kenmare town for food,before you arrive at the cottage.Eileen.

“Marvelous place with wonderful hosts.. a perfect hideaway from the world”

I have to explain that me and the Frenchie stayed for a week in the old pub cottage the year before last around the New Year. We loved the place - the unspoilt scenery and Eileen and Robert. The Frenchie wrote notes and I was supposed to do the review but being the scatterbrain that I am - I mislaid the notes and now I have found them. Frenchie's notes: Its freezing outside; night is dark. Everything is quiet, no noise except for the howling of the storm in the fireplace. No blaring lights - Eileen's xmas tree and ours, a candle and flames. My beloved Margaret is sleeping (snoring) in the other settee. I am drinking my red piper beer and I can smell the stew. Can I expect more with holidays. A couple of days before - the satenave gave up on us and Eileen and Robert came to rescue us in front of the "Dereen Gardens". They opened the door of the "old pub" - the fire was lit, a bottle of wine, box of chocolates and flowers.... so kind reception. Eileen supplied all informations about the kitchen and Robert described all the lovely restoration work which he did on the cottage. Some days later, we spent hours around the table, tasting Josie's cake, wine and chatting of everything. . Thank you so much - you are so kind and your cottage is one of the best we have stayed in. So marvellous people, so marvellous Beara. Please, please - don't change anything - you, your cottage, Beara. You remind me of the Ireland I had visited and loved 35 years before. I could not find this any more in another place until I found you and your cottage. I have to endorse everything which the Frenchie says - I just loved the romanticism of the place, the beautiful wood which Eileen looked after so well, the roaring fire and your helpfulness and kindness. Outside, I loved seeing the sheepies - leaving their fronds of wool on the little wooden fence which ran alongside the landscape. We discovered the Healy Pass with its heft of high cliffs and narrow pases, the solitude of Glandore Lake, the rainbow colours of the houses in Eyeries and the unspoilt scenery of the Beara Penninsula. We also liked the vitality of Kenmare where the Frenchie discovered to his delight an authentic French bakery. We loved the quiet ordinariness of Castletownbere, the way of life on Dursey and Valentia and Beara Islands, Helen's Pub introduced us to the friendliness of country life and food was excellent. Josie's made us envious of such a lovely setting to dine in. Wishing ye all the best in life Robert and Eileen because ye are the perfect hosts. Margaret from Dublin and Didier from France

“Lovely holiday location!”

This was our first holiday as a family with our 10-month old babygirl and we're so happy to have booked with Eileen O'Shea in Lauragh! We came in quite late but the welcome with a roaring fire and a pot of fresh tea was a nice surprise. We were able to do some groceries at the owners' groceryshop. The Old Pub Cottage is comfortable and the O'Shea's are lovely people who know the area very well.
