Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Dumfries & Galloway is the hidden corner of Scotland. A short hop from England, it offers wonderful scenery and a fascinating history. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind or to pursue an active family holiday.

Hightae

Hightae is located between Lockerbie and Dumfries, near the banks of the River Annan and just 10 minutes off the motorway. It is a charming village with a history dating back to the days of Robert the Bruce and is an ideal base for exploring the eastern side of Dumfries & Galloway.
Local children's attractions include Mossburn Community Farm and Animal Sanctuary (1 mile), Dalton Pottery Art Cafe (4 miles) and Drummuir Farm Ice Cream Parlour (8 miles). Other attractions include Caerlaverock Castle and Nature Reserve, historic villages such as New Abbey and Kippford and the spectacular gardens at Threave. There are also may outdoor pursuits, such as walking the Annandale Way, sailing and waterskiing on Loch Ken, mountain biking on the trails at Mabie and Ae forests and tackling the zipwire and mountain balling at Laggan. The area has a rich historical and cultural heritage, particularly celebrating the lives of Robert the Bruce, Robert Burns and JM Barrie. For astronomers, Galloway Forest Park is one of the rare Dark Sky Parks in the western world.
The village inn is a five minute walk and is highly rated for its home cooked suppers (advance booking is recommended due to its popularity). The nearby town of Lochmaben has a newsagents/post office, bakers, convenience store, pharmacy and bank. Lockerbie offers a wider selection of shops including a Tesco superstore.

Interaction with guest

As I live in Edinburgh I'm not usually around when guests arrive. My cleaner lives round the corner and holds the key. A detailed information sheet on the hall table provides useful advice about the house and surrounding area. Guests can contact me by phone for help at any time during their stay.
