“It just got better”

Reviewed 26 Nov 2015

Just come away from Kinross Cottage for the third year running and we can honestly say it was better than before. We stay at Kinross because we are geologists and work locally in the area every winter. We have always enjoyed coming here, mainly because it is out of the way, it is warm and cosy and has everything we need for a comfortable stay whilst we do our work. The owners are lovely and discreet and very accommodating. Every year we mess them about with our dates, sometimes having to delay our arrival by a few days or extend by a few and they are absolutely brilliant and always respond via email very quickly. We cannot fault their customer service. Regarding the cottage itself it has two bedrooms. One of which, the double, has been upgraded to a king bed which is so incredibly comfortable and so much better than before. The other bedroom is a twin room which we have used occasionally and is absolutely fine. The bathroom is tiled and contains a WC, sink and shower and is always very clean. The living area has two large couches, which are also new and much better than before. It meant that we could both sprawl out and relax and enjoy our evening time whilst watching tv. The kitchen is a nice size and is well equipped with everything you need. We also noted that there was a new tumble dryer this year which wasn't there on our previous visit. We never used the dryer despite being outside and getting drenched every day, we found a neat little trick that dried our clothes brilliantly- We hooked up the portable heater and stood it in the clothes cupboard at the end of the hallway and used it as a drying room. The heater didn't need to be on long at all to effectively dry the clothes and this probably saved a packet on the eleccy bill. Not a good idea to leave the heater on for too long or forget about it though. The owners had given us a pint of milk on our arrival which was a lovely gesture. There is a small convenience store in Halkirk which opens at 7am. Not sure of the time it closes, probably 6 or 7 pm. They have good recycling facilities at the cottage and a crate where you can put glass too which is really useful. Overall i would say this is one of our favourite places to stay because there is nothing you can really fault it on and it is so well priced. The owners have made improvements to the property which have not been passed onto the customer which makes you feel like your getting something back. We cannot praise it enough and would recommend it to anyone.

Great to see Paul and Mel again and we are so pleased they like what we have done.

“Tranquility on earth.”

Such nice people wil be great to see them again

“Everything you could want from a holiday cottage”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2015

Gordon made us feel welcome on our arrival and took time to show us around the cottage and explain how everything worked and to also say that we should contact him if we needed any assistance. As he lives next door that would not have been a problem. He even took the time to contact us before we arrived to say that as the previous visitors had left early that morning it would be available for us before the time we expected. The cottage had everything you could possibly want or need for your holiday including tea, coffee, sugar and a pint of milk which were most welcome after a long journey. The property is located in a quiet location on the edge of the village and has fantastic views over open countryside. There is a local shop and post office nearby and also an hotel which does great food at reasonable prices. Although situated in a village location it is close to the main road which gives easy access to nearby Thurso and other tourist attractions. We loved our trip to Orkney.

Great to be appreciated. So pleased they enjoyed their stay.

“extremely comfortable and well equipped cottage”

Reviewed 13 Jun 2015

Had a 4 night stay at this cottage. It is spacious, imaculately clean and with all the facilities and equipment you could wish for. The owners are extremely helpful without imposing in any way whatsoever. The location is ideal for exploring Caithness and there are very reasonably priced places to eat within walking distance. An excellent holiday cottage!

So pleased that they enjoyed the cottage and their stay.

“Bien équipé”

Reviewed 27 Jul 2014

Nous sommes restés 3 nuits à Kinross. Ce cottage est confortable, propre et bien équipé avec un joli jardin . La literie est de qualité. Le sèche linge est appréciable notamment dans le cas de court séjour. L'accueil est très agréable et reste discret.

the cottage was left very clean and tidy. Very nice people.

“Excellent Holiday Cottage in Halkirk”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2013

I would definitely recommend anyone traveling to the Scottish Highlands to have a look at staying in Halkirk at Kinross Cottage. A real home from home, fully equipped with everything you could need for a self catering holiday, washing machine and tumble dryer if you have to do such things and set in a well maintained lovely garden. Cottage is spotless, plenty of lovely fresh towels and bedding. The owners are not far away and go out of their way to be very helpful without bothering you at all, they even get tea, coffee and milk in for you on your arrival. Halkirk is a place to get away from it all but within driving distance of the exquisite scenery of Scotland. I have had a great holiday and definitely want to return again to Kinross. Don't miss out on this great accommodation when booking your time away.

What lovely people they were and they gave me some help with my own computer. Hope to see them again.

Perfect for what we needed. Handy location not for from the main town. Local hotel perfect for an evening meal and just a 5 min walk. Will definitely stay again and happy to recommend to others.

Pleased to be of service and hope we see them again.

“Well appointed accommodation in excellent location”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2012

Kinross holiday cottage is very clean, well appointed and located in the quiet village of Hallkirk. It is well located for trips east and west - we went as far as the Kyle of Tongue in the West and to John o'Groats in the East. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay and we loved the views from the lounge window. It was so quiet and so peaceful. We shall definitely be back. We stayed on our way to Orkney and wish we had spent longer in this area.

It would be great to see these people again

“A pristine cottage in a good location”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2012

Kinross is a very well presented holiday cottage set in a large garden adjacent to the owner's home. The property is ideal for a solo traveller or couple and the second bedroom, although small, could accommodate another adult or two children. The owners were helpful but not intrusive and arranged a WiFi connection to the bungalow for a small fee, which was a very useful. Kinross was comfortable, well equipped and cosy. The location on the edge of Halkirk village was quiet with open views across farmland to the front and local facilities such as the shop and pub within walking distance.

it is pleasing when people recognise our efforts to make their stay comfortable. WiFi is now offered free.
