Welcome to The Old Forge; our 4* holiday cottage dating back to 1840 and located in the village of Great Ayton in beautiful North Yorkshire.

Enjoying a delightful riverside location with views across fields, The Old Forge offers excellent, high quality accommodation with an ideal setting to enjoy tranquil countryside surroundings, the great outdoors, local cafés, pubs and restaurants all within walking distance.

Many walks start from the front door and take in wonderful scenery.

On the edge of the North York Moors National Park, the village was home to Captain Cook and is mentioned in the Domesday Book.

Explore the North Yorkshire coast including Saltburn and Whitby.

In addition to shops, pub, restaurant and take-away all within 100 yards, Great Ayton offers tennis courts, a bowling green, cricket club and football field.

A great place to enjoy a holiday or short break – families, individuals, children, pets all welcome! We hope to see you soon.

Please observe the following information and place your refuse and recycling into the containers as follows:

Blue Box – Mixed Glass, Bottles and Jars
Black Lidded Bin – General Household Waste
Regrettably, a £50 charge will be made for any re-sorting of waste and recycling by our cleaning staff.

Why can't I call Alex (the owner) before booking?

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Alex (the owner) a message.

If Alex (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
