Deep in the heart of Texas, down a country lane, this home was designed around gorgeous heritage live oak trees by famed TX landscape artist C. P. Montague. It is constructed of river rock, picked up at the river on the property by the artist and her husband, also hand-laid by them. There are two interior rock fireplace walls with working fireplace in the living room, firewood provided.
The home is about 2,400 sq. ft. with large open living areas and two large, master bedroom suites. One has a beautiful Texas river landscape mural painted above the square tub by the artist. The second has a very large walk-in shower. The main living area has a large screen smart HDTV.
Please note the sleeping arrangements if more than 6 are coming. There are two large en-suite king bedrooms. There is a queen sleeper sofa (which has a 4" foam topper added for comfort) in an alcove of the living room and a privacy screen is available. There is also a 22" self-inflatable air mattress which can go in one of the bedrooms. Linens are provided for all.
You won't mind being in the fully furnished kitchen as you enjoy the spectacular view out the wall of windows above the sink, overlooking the upper patio and the lower terraces and patio, fish pond, then on down the bluff to the woods and river. Artist's painting area has a wall of 7' windows.
Farm Activities: It is a five minute walk to the San Gabriel River, Rocky Overlook is on a working 172 acre working farm and has a mile f beautiful San Gabriel River frontage.
See horses and goats across the drive and feel your stress melt away as you enjoy the outdoor seating areas and listen to the many song birdsl. Relax surrounded in rustic beauty with a clear view of the night sky and stars, perfect for stargazing. In the fall and winter, enjoy the fire pit as you relax outside; in the spring and summer, enjoy the breezes we always enjoy. Pick up pecans in the 20 acre orchard if you'd like in the fall. Archaeology buffs can hunt the limestone river banks for a variety of fossils or the hillside for Tonkawa or Comanche Indian arrowheads. We have many birders stop along the property trying to catch site of the many species we have seen on the farm. Binoculars are provided.
Maybe you'd prefer to have a campfire and weenie roast on the banks of the river? Take the picnic basket and cooler that are provided and go for a picnic along the river. Practice your casting in the San Gabriel or sit on the bank and watch the catfish and bass swim by. Make yourselves at home while you are in our care. A recent guest caught several 15" wide-mouth bass and many blue gills and said "there are hundreds of blue gill".
Nearby Activities and Events: Rocky offers pastoral tranquility and allows you to enjoy all that Austin has to offer just 30 minutes away. The Circuit of the Americas F1 track is only minutes away via the 80mph 130 tollraod. Go in to Austin to enjoy a UT game, SXSW music festival, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, 6th Street and its live music scene, or the Bob Bullock TX Museum where you can experience a true taste of Texas culture.
Georgetown has its own art and music festivals, such as Festival of the Arts, Red Poppy Festival (April), Downtown Christmas Stroll (December), beergarden, and the First Saturday on the Square days - vendors set up all around the square with their crafts, plants and homemade goodies.
You may choose to swim in the scenic Blue Hole just off the downtown square, explore the InnerSpace Caverns, visit the many wineries in the area, or hike or bike the miles of trails around town or Lake Georgetown.
Numerous excellent camping, hiking, fishing and water related activities can be found at several parks located around Lake Georgetown. Many golf courses are in the area. Sun City is 15 miles away.
With many good restaurants in nearby downtown Georgetown, groceries are optional. Brew up the provided coffee, tea or hot chocolate in the morning and enjoy the fresh homemade muffins and fresh fruit provided for you. Your choice of muffins include Banana Nut (with pecans from our orchard), Chocolate Chip, or Blueberry.. Eat in at the dining table or enjoy your meal outdoors on one of the patios or terraces overlooking the bluff. The humming birds and various birds will enjoy their meals along with you at their feeders, providing lots of free entertainment!.
Regardless of what you choose to do each day, come home to Rocky Hollow. Enjoy a glass of wine and unwind as you sit with your loved one in front of the fireplace or on one of the patios and enjoy the spectacular sunsets.
