The property offers a unique combination of design, style and natural beauty, as the views from all rooms are quite breathtaking.
The furniture is a tasteful combination of Bauhaus and original old Balinese pieces and although the setting is natural, modern technology has not been neglected; there is a satellite television as well as a free high speed wifi Internet connection.
The main entrance to the villa is on the upper level, directly into the 80 m2 living room with huge picture window allowing a panoramic view of the seascape. From here there is direct access to the upper teak terraces and main swimming pool. The fully equipped kitchen and guest cloakroom are also on this level.
The lower garden level can be accessed via the internal staircase and also from a separate entrance outside. On this level you will find 4 double bedrooms and a small office room. This has been indicated by the fact that most guests, whether staying for a week, a fortnight or more, don't often leave the property. Everything required for total relaxation is to hand.
Location description from owner
The Ionian Islands region
Kefalonia, at 688.8 square kilometres has 365 villages and is the largest of the seven Ionian islands. Agriculture, wine making and bee-keeping are still important sources of income and the island has remained surprisingly unspoilt. The terrain is rugged and surprisingly green due to the high winter rainfall.
At 8 km from the villa, Fiscardo is a picturesque and beautiful Greek harbour village on the Northern tip of Kefalonia, largest of the seven Ionian Islands. Fiscardo is unique in that it was left virtually undamaged during the great earthquake of 1953, that ruined most of the historic buildings on Kefalonia. Traditionnal Kefalonian fishing boats moor alongside the more extravagant temporary visitors during the summer. If you are early enough you can buy freshly caught fish. Otherwise, a stroll around the harbour will take you on a tour of some of the most luxurious yachts. Many of them are owned by the rich and famous who are attracted to Kefalonia by the tranquillity of Fiscardo.Fiscardo at night takes on an entirely different perspective. The lights, the old buildings, cafes, bars and restaurants all combine to provide a magical Mediterranean atmosphere.Of all the villages of Kefalonia, Fiscardo stands out as having a unique ambiance, especially on a summer evening.

“Stylish property, breathtaking views and beautiful, welcoming area”
We had a wonderful time at Alto Mare, from being greeted by the owner Catherine - as elegant as her beautiful house! - to enjoying a last spectacular sunset from the deck, we loved everything about our stay. The house is extremely stylish with modern art on the walls, mid century classic furniture and a colonial vibe. However it is also very well equipped and comfortable. The outside space in particular has been well designed and maximises the incredible sea views. Something that really adds to the experience is the fantastic, funky beach bar - Acqua - that is within easy walking distance of the villa and has its own little beach. It serves brilliant food and cocktails and is the perfect, laid back spot to watch the sun go down. We found Catherine's tips particularly useful. Everything she recommended turned out be something we really enjoyed eg drinks at Emelisse Hotel, breakfast at Picnic and the walk to Kimilia Beach. Every beach we visited was gorgeous and the clear, bright turquoise sea was still a lovely temperature for swimming even in October. We really liked the end of season atmosphere although others may find it almost too quiet at this time of year. Also, the journey from the airport was a bit further on twisty, mountain roads than we had realised and the narrow, unlit roads are a challenge at night if you aren't used to them. Everyone we met on our trip was delightful - friendly and helpful - especially Caterina who cooked us an amazing Greek meal on our last night. This was our first time in Greece and we loved it. We had a wonderful holiday and would highly recommend Alto Mare.
“A delightful villa with an amazing setting overlooking the Ionian Sea.”
We were looked after extremely well by the owner of the villa who gave us lots of written advice on car hire, places to visit on Kefalonia and Ithaca, restaurants, beaches, lovely walking trails including maps and much more. This definitely helped to make our holiday particularly enjoyable. We loved the villa: the spacious terraces with wide sea views, the well equipped kitchen, the excellent cook who served us delicious meals on the terrace, the comfortable beds. Location was quiet but just 400m from a beach with an excellent taverna. We swam mainly in the sea which was a little warmer in October than the pools at the villa.
“Alto Mare.....a VERY special villa”
I can only echo the comments of previous guests. Alto Mare is a VERY special villa. We loved it all....the stunning location with such amazing panoramic views. The spaciousness and luxury. The way Catherine had furnished it with such style and elegance, and how helpful she was. Nearby Fiscardo is a delight as was the Alaties beach and taverna. Our only disappointment was it was all over too soon. We all agreed it was the best villa we had ever stayed in and would love to come back.
“OUT OF THIS WORLD”
This was our second visit to Catherine's villa rental property and we loved it as much this time as the time before (2013). It is such an amazing place to stay and we are already thinking about the next time. The villa itself is beautiful and so comfortable you never want to leave it and the view to die for! It has to be seen to be believed! We loved it.
“A little piece of heaven!”
Villa altomare is stunning, the views are spectacular, the house is gorgeous, immaculate and run by Catherine superbly. We couldn't have asked for more, we are definitely visiting again! The acquae alaties beach club within walking distance is also fabulous, fiscardo is dreamy, a definite must
“Amazing views, away from it all, peaceful and up there with the very best in luxury self catering accommodation.”
This was our third visit to Villa Alto Mare. Needless to say we are hooked on the place. It is the perfect get away to relax and unwind. Catherine is the perfect host - who will make you feel like it's your home for the duration of the stay, is very helpful if you need her and leaves you to get on with your holiday. The views are spectacular - living up to its name of Open Sea with panoramic unspoilt views taking in the mountains of Kefalonia on one side and the cliffs to the sea on the other. Catherine has thought of everything you might need in the villa - from an 'enthusiastic' ice making machine - keeping your drinks nice and cold through to pool and beach towels. You will have a wonderful stay at this magnificent villa.
This was our 3rd stay at this beautiful villa. We do not often go back to the same place more than once but because this villa and destination ticks all the boxes it is very difficult to resist returning to. I do believe you would be very hard pushed to find a villa in Kefalonia as perfect as Villa Alto Mare. The villa is situated in such a peaceful, quiet area but is just a 5 minute walk to the stunning Alaites Beach and it's lovely taverna. The harbour of Fiscardo is about a 10 minute drive away where we spend most of our evenings. Catherine is a lovely and very efficient host who we feel very safely looked after by. We will be returning to the villa with our 3 children once again next year as we feel extremely confident that it will provide us with a very relaxing and peaceful holiday in luxury accommodation with spectacular views. We could on and on ..Perfection !!!
I always welcome your lovely family with great pleasure. No doubt you love my house, and no doubt I enjoy you as guest ! Thank you J., for your very nice words.
“A wonderful villa in a wonderful location”
We haven't stopped talking about our relaxing stay at the Alto Mare Villa, near Fiskardo, so that can only be the sign of a great holiday choice. The Alto Mare is an extremely private, architect designed villa with panoramic sea views from nearly every window and terrace, its location lending itself to beautiful sunsets. The villa itself has been tastefully furnished with some unique items, which made you feel more like a guest in someone's home, rather than being in a holiday rental. The Alto Mare was extremely spacious and although there was just the two of us staying, a family group would not feel as though they were on top of each other. The outdoor space was amazing, having 2 pools on 2 different levels with vast expanses of decking and patio areas to house plentiful dining and lounging furniture, in both sun and shade. Catherine, the owner, was a delight to do "business" with from the start, providing useful local information and detailed travel directions, communicating with us throughout our stay, without being in any way obtrusive. Despite having rented a car, which is essential to get there, we didn't feel the need to venture far as we had everything close by, pretty Fiskardo, beautiful accomodation with a stunning view, and 5 mins. walk away is a little bay with crystal clear a friendly taverna serving excellent food (and cocktails!) The only downside was that we had to leave at the end of our 2 weeks and vacate the villa for the next lucky guests!
This is our second year in a row that we have visited the Fiscardo area - we love the climate, the friendliness of the people, the good food and prices are pretty reasonable. Villa Alto Mare is an excellent villa with stunning views. Catherine, the owner, is very helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend it. The only thing to note is that the villa is quite remote - one beach cafe 5 minutes walk down the hill. So a car is essential - Fiscardo is 10 minutes drive away. Manganos - the closest village is 5 minutes drive and has a good local taverna on the crossroads opposite the mini market.
“Breathtaking views in complete luxury!”
We enjoyed a superb week at Villa Alto Mare and would recommend to those looking for luxurious accommodation in a superb setting. Plenty of good places to eat within relatively short driving distances but also good base for exploring delightful island of Kefalonia. Owner completely professional and helpful - a pleasure to stay in her beautiful villa.
