The East Sussex region
The South East England region
The attractions, cafe's and pubs in Hastings will entertain all ages. This beautiful historic town dates back to at least the 8th century, but flint arrowheads & Bronze Age artifacts have also been found from prehistoric settlements!
Hastings is one of Britain's oldest fishing ports. Boats have worked from the beach in front of the ancient town for over a thousand years. You can buy freshly caught fish direct from the fishermen's shop.
The Old Town is where all the fun happens, located around the fishing port with lots of amusements, tourist attractions, history to explore and the quirky boutique and antique shops in George Street. Otherwise head over to the large Priory Meadow Shopping Centre.
Very unique to the area, you can go search the local shoreline cliffs for dinosaur bones and fossils, especially good at Covehurst Bay. Also dotted all around this area of England are amazing castles and all the history from the 1066 Battle of Hastings (Norman conquest of England).
Come and explore this fantastic get-a-away!
East Hill, Sussex
The area is officially the sunniest part of the UK, and one that is historically very British.
You can walk between us (Covehurst Bay) and Hastings either along the cliff top or via the beach. It will take about 45 minutes!
Navigate the amazing footpaths and trails dotted around the East Sussex countryside. There's nothing better than going on long walks enjoying spectacular views of the coastline, green countryside, wooded glens, castles, caves and wild life. All this mixed with the fresh air from the sea, will provide many great days out.
We can also offer guided walks around the area, showing you the best trails and secret pathways not marked on the maps. Please just ask!
We are located in Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve. It covers 660 acres (267 hectares) to the east of Hastings. Sandstone cliffs, glens covered with gorse and trees, footpaths, nature trails, picnic areas and ample car parking are some of the features at the country park.
The nature reserve is set in a High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, most of the park has been designated a Special Area of Conservation and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The park supported considerable human activity in prehistoric times. Archaeological finds and landmarks date from Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Romano-British, Saxon, Medieval, post-Medieval, Victorian to World War II periods. A large majority of the park has been identified as an Area of Archaeological Interest. Rare birds breed on the cliffs.

"Great place to stay!"
We stayed at Badgers Den over Christmas and had a fantastic stay! the cottage was immaculately decorated and was very clean, which I was pleased about as have stayed in places that accept dogs previously and they were nothing like Badgers Den!. It was warm and cozy and we were constantly surprised by lots of nice touches such as fresh fruit and beautiful roses when we arrived, there was also milk in the fridge so we could have a nice cup of tea when we arrived and mince pies! My 2 dogs loved the badgers that were dotted around the place and found them constantly fascinating! The Hastings nature reserve was across the road and provided fantastic (even if muddy, due to the rain!) walks for the dogs and the beach was 15 minutes walk away. We didn't see much of the rest of the area as our stay had t be a short one due to other commitments, but I would return and stay for longer to explore the area even more as there seemed to be lots more to do and see. We also had teenagers with us who are hard to amuse so the swimming pool was great and they loved it, it was warm and great to swim in when it was cold outside. Thanks Chris and Erik you have a wonderful cottage and made our stay lovely I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

We are so pleased we have found Badger's Den. For us it is perfection, combining a sense of luxury ( high spec fittings, v comfortable bed, technology and a good sized indoor pool) with a dog friendly attitude and location. We loved the peacefulness of the location and having fantastic walks on the doorstep is a real bonus. We will be back!

"Friendly Hosts, and exceptional accomodation."
We visited Badgers Den < our first time - as we were visiting family. The welcome pack and flowers were a very nice touch, which allowed us to have tea and cake on arrival -!9:00 after a very long journey. On calling at the main house Chris was most welcoming and gave us a quick tour of the facilities. Our cottage was one of the best we have stayed in as well as one of the cleanest / warmist and best equipped. The location was excellent for us as our dogs could be exercised just across the lane. Have every intention of booking again for next year

"Absolutely superb cottage"
We had a lovely week at Badgers Den in every way. Chris and Erick were so friendly and accommodating. The cottage was spotless and extremely comfortable and relaxing. We done several walks from the cottage and loved the surrounding countryside. We visited many of the surrounding coastlines and towns including Eastbourne, Bexhill, Brighton, Cuckmere Haven and of course Hastings and the idyllic Rye, Battle, Lewes. We had sunshine every day and spent most of our time walking and exploring the area so didn't get a chance to use the lovely pool. We would have no hesitation in returning to Badgers Den and had the the most amazing holiday, thank you Chris and Erick

"Great cottage in a lovely area !"
We went for a birthday weekend for the first time in Hastings and stayed in this cottage. It was excellent, the cottage is very cute , very clean and new . The very welcoming owners have been thinking of everything, it is very well equipped with new materials. We really felt at home and wish we could have stayed longer. Our 2 boys loved watching Instant Amazon movies on the big TV and the amazing swimming pool which has a well been very nicely equipped with hifi and toys. We definitively recommend this place and are already thinking of coming back next year.

"Built & equipped with everything you could want or need, clean and excellent value."
The attention to detail in the Covehurst Bay Holiday Cottage is nothing short of outstanding. During the time we were there we kept noticing things the owners had put in place for guests, well above & beyond anything we've experienced anywhere else. From the milk, muffins, biscuits & cider waiting for us when we arrived, to the well thought out conservatory entrance for taking off wet shoes & clothes, to the charging point for electric cars, to the inflatable toys for the kids in the fantastic pool, lovely grounds, we couldn’t want for more. Add to all that the great walks & scenery on the doorstep & we couldn’t fail to have a brilliant weekend. If you are still reading looking for a ‘but’, there isn’t one!

"Superb Cottage, lovely swimming pool, great location!"
We stayed here for an extended weekend and I could not be more happy with the experience. The place was immaculate and the little touches (milk in fridge, fruit in bowl) made all the difference! It would have been a great place just to sit and enjoy the surrounding and immaculate gardens and pool, but we also went on a few walks (of which there are many). Hastings is a short walk or bus ride away and the cottage is ideal for those looking to get away from it all. I will most definitely be returning, the only slight issue I have is with the name of the place... but I have overcome this... Badgers live in Setts but holiday in Dens!
