York is a beautiful city in its own right, yet, is also a fantastic location to access the Yorkshire Coast, the Dales and cities for shopping e.g. Leeds and Harrogate. There are a wealth of fabulous beauty spots and places of interest both within York and within a short drive.
Local places of interest are Castle Howard, Beningborough Hall and Harewood House - fine stately homes. Pickering with it's steam railway, historic Knaresborough with Mother Shipton's Cave, Helmsley, a quaint town with its own castle and 2 grand Abbeys close by.
The Yorkshire Coast is approximately 1hr away with Whitby, Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay, Flamborough Head, Filey and Bridlington as places with natural beauty, history and wild life. Lightwater Valley and Flamingoland are two popular theme parks approx 1hr away by car or bus.
York is an all year round place to visit. It is a haven of tourist attractions suitable for adults and children alike many of which are under cover making it an ideal family holiday what ever the British weather throws at us!
York is known as a 'City of Festivals', the list is endless (google 'York Festivals' for more details). Examples include Festivals for Food and Drink, Science, Vikings, Dance, Ebor (racing) and various Christmas festivals

"Everthing you could ask for - and more."
I stayed in Minster house with parent, siblings and young children (spanning 3 to 82 years). The house was super clean, comfortable and homely. The kitchen was well equipped and had plenty of space for cooking and dining for a large group. The whole house was well thought through and the owners had really put care into providing everything we might need. They even had a huge TV, WIFI, toys for the children and guides on what to do. The location was excellent, parking easy (although we didn't need to use our cars) and we only wish we could have stayed longer. I would highly recommend.

"Beautiful big house, fantastic location"
A group of nine of us stayed for the weekend of a hen do in York and the house was perfect - large rooms, plenty of bathrooms and huge social space downstairs. It was a short walk to the centre of town (or an even shorter taxi ride as we were mainly in heels...) and the house had everything we needed inside. The owner communicated with us well in the build up to our stay and was very flexible with our arrangements. There was also parking for two cars which was great. And a dishwasher!

"It couldn't have been better!"
We arrived, all 12 of us from the South of France, on a cold day in May, tired and a little apprehensive about "ze inglish welcome" but Janet was there to greet us and immediately went off to buy some milk for our first English cup of tea. The house was immaculate, warm and very cosy, just right as a haven after a day sight-seeing or shopping. It is perfectly placed for the city centre and for getting out into the countryside or the sea. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners, any little query was sorted out within minutes. The house is decorated and furnished with taste, very full of light and always welcoming. The area is central but quiet, being just off the main road, in five minutes walk of the river, the station and the town centre with all it's attractions. A perfect location for our visit!

"Spacious, comfortable, well-equipped property very close to the centre of York."
Great long weekend stay at Minster House - property large enough to accommodate 12 members of our family ranging in age from 0 - 86 years! Immaculately maintained, warm, comfortable and equipped to a very high standard - no qualms about visiting with a baby, every requirement met, even an Advent sterilizer! Refreshments provided on arrival (including tea, coffee, fresh milk and biscuits) were very welcome! Very close to all the attractions in York, in fact York Minster is less than 10 mins walk away! Owner attentive, helpful and responded rapidly to any query. No hesitation in recommending this property -we hope to visit Minster House again!

"A great find"
An excellent house within easy walking distance of York city centre. Minster House is perfect for a large group get-together. The house was spacious, very clean and well-equipped. The owners were very kind, providing a lovely welcome pack and also very helpful, recommending some of their favourite local restaurants, take-aways etc. All of our group loved the property and I am sure we will return in the future.

"Perfect house, perfect location!!"
We came to York for a hen party with a group of 12. The house was perfect with 6 bedrooms, comfy beds and 3 bathrooms. It is in easy walk (about 10 mins) of the city centre, with handy shops nearby. Lovely big kitchen and double oven made cooking easy for lots of people and it was very well equipped. Would recommend for both large groups and families. Would be lovely to come in the summer to enjoy the garden :)

"superb family house that ticks all boxes"
the house was immaculate. very welcoming and comfortable. all rooms of ample size, beds all comfortable, no complaints! it was very much home from home. kitchen was well equipped with all utensils needed for a large family stay. well heated day and night and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and so much so we loved the house and felt very much at home, which is a lovely feeling when you are on holiday. would recommend to anyone, families especially. the walk into york centre was about 10mins which was fab to be so close to everything. great takeaways close by as well as local shop on corner for essentials. cannot praise the owners enough. answered all my picky questions prior to arrival and most helpful. thank you janet for making our family gathering a special one. our parents enjoyed themselves having all the family around them on their 50th wedding anniversary. would be back if you will have us! thanks again. x

"Well worth a visit and highly recommended!!"
Visit for a long weekend with friends. Excellent location, lovely property, very spacious and really good local amenities as well as the access to the Minister and shopping. We walked into centre each day and returned to change then went back into centre for a meal on the evening. Walking distance of train station but taxi only 5 minutes if required (after all that shopping!!). We would definitely return and I would visit with my family of mixed ages too:)

"Excellent house in a great location"
The house was in a fantastic location near to the city centre and all the tourist attractions. This meant as a group we could access everything we wanted to do by foot. The two small shops one on the corner of the road and the other less than five minutes walk away were very useful as were the restaurants and take aways in the area. The house itself was wonderful with plenty of room for a large group and with near enough everything we could have needed. There were a couple of things that we felt could have been supplied such as a hair dryer and salt and pepper but these were of no real concern and didn't effect what we thought of the house and the amenities it did provide. Everything was in working order and there was plenty of room for us all. The location of the house is fantastic and we all enjoyed our stay. It was also very kind of the owners to trust us as a group of young people and we would like to thank them for allowing us to have a great time away from home.

"Clean, convenient and excellent service from the owner"
The house was exceptionally clean and tidy. The garden was a great area for the kids to hang out with. There was a great selection of kids amenities and toys. Very convenient distance from the main city sights. I would recommend to all ages. Had a few hiccups with the wi-fi and cable tv but assistance was easily obtained.
