COTTAGE DESCRIPTION

From the moment you enter, you will set your eyes upon the living room's centre piece the original early 19th century stone fire place newly restored and equipped with a with a wood burning stove. The room has solid wooden floors a new sofa bed and an antique armchair. There is a 32" LCD TV with built in DVD and Freeview. The living room also contains an antique wooden dining table that seats four. Accessed by patio doors, is a small private courtyard which can be lit by fairy lights, the courtyard is equipped with a portable barbeque and four chairs and table.

Located in the lower part of the old smoke house, the kitchen is compact and equipped for all needs containing a four ring ceramic hob cooker, washing machine, dish washer, fridge with ice box and microwave. There is also a kettle, toaster and stove top espresso maker. The kitchen has a supply of spices, herbs, oil & vinegar, tea, coffee and sugar.

On the first floor you will discover the atmospheric bedroom with a vaulted ceiling from which hangs a vintage chandelier. The room contains a small built in cupboard and a TV, DVD and Freeview. the comfortable king size bed can be easily detached into two single beds. From the bedroom you have access to the bathroom, which was converted from the top part of the smoke house. Here you will find a walk in shower, toilet, basin, mirrored bathroom cabinet containing a shaver point and heated towel rail.

The cottage is ideally suited for one or two adults as it contains one bedroom with en suite bathroom. However the main bed can be divided into two single beds if required or there is option of using the sofa bed downstairs. Please note that although the cottage is on two floors the general layout is open plan and the only access to the bathroom is through the bedroom. We can not accept more than two guests per booking. We are happy to have up to two small house trained dogs stay, we provide a roll out bed and food and water bowls. Towels and bedsheets are provided. we also provide beach towels for in the warmer months. The cottage has free WiFi. There is a picnic hamper and a portable barbeque left for you to take out on days to the beach or the East Hill country park.

As the cottage is situated on a twittern (footpath) there is no parking, however there are 2 pay and display carparks about 5 to 10 mins walk away and for loading and un-loading you can use an adjacent street. Within the Old Town everything is within walking distance so a car isn't a necessity.

Do also be aware that as this is a coastal town there is naturally a noticeable population of sea gulls and sometimes they can be noisy.

Location description from owner

The England region

Outside the Old Town

If you plan to walk further, then the beginning of the East Hill country park, with its stunning coastal views and woodland walks, is five minutes walk. There are steps up to the top of the hill or the top can be reached by the 19th century rail lift. Here, you will enjoy impressive views of the Old Town valley.
If you fancy a sea front stroll, then from the cottage it is a short walk further west to St. Leonards. In the 19th century the area was expanded to become a sea side resort and much of the impressive architecture from this era still remains along the sea front. A short drive, bike or bus ride will take you along the sea front to the nearby coastal town of Bexhill, with its art deco era De La Warr Pavillion.
Further inland from Hastings, historic medieval towns such as Winchealsea, Rye and Robertsbridge are a short drive as is the medieval Bodium Castle. If you want to enjoy beautiful, expansive gardens then Great Dixter and Batemans are also nearby.

Central Hastings

Around the Old Town

Hastings Old Town is situated in a valley between the East and West Hills. Many of its houses date back to the Tudor era which can be seen on The High St and All Saints St. The cottage is located in a secluded little pedestrian lane or twitten, from which it is five minutes walk to the beach and a minutes walk to the Old Town High St. On the High St, and nearby George St., you will discover a number of classic Old Town pubs as well as a fine choice of cafes, restaurants, a bakery and a delicatessen. The area is also renowned for its abundance of antique shops. The old town leads directly onto the sea front area known as the Rock-a-Nore with its iconic and unique 25 foot high wooden black huts used to store the fishing equipment and still used for this purpose today. By the net huts is the Stade beach, Stade meaning landing place, where Hastings has Europe's largest beach launched fishing fleet. During the summer months the area becomes the location for a series of free music and art events. The Rock-a-Nore is also the location of the Fisherman's museum and the Jerwood art gallery with its cafe's balcony looking out onto the sea.
If you want to experience a more lively side to the Old Town then there are festivals to enjoy that take place throughout the year, such as the Green man festival, the Seafood and Wine Festival, Hastings Old Town week and the Bonfire Parade.

“Lovely quaint cottage”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2017

Potting cottage was the perfect place for us to stay over the Easter break. It is central for shops, bars, restaurants and the beach!! The cottage itself is very cosy and quaint and had everything we needed to enjoy our break. Most comfortable bed ever!!! Helen and Marc also provided us with a lovely welcome pack, which was a great added extra to everything already provided. We will definitely like to stay again. Loved Hastings itself with it's history and lovely walks on the cliffs.

Owner's reply: Thank you Mary for your lovely review. We look forward to welcoming you back to Hastings and Potting Cottage soon.

“Fabulous Find!”

Reviewed 5 Feb 2017

This beautiful cottage is perfectly equipped, stylishly decorated, absolutely comfortable, ideally located, and immaculately clean. We are thrilled to be staying here! The owners have provided everything you could possibly need and want. The welcome package was a wonderful bonus. Our bed is super comfy and the linens and towels are lovely. The shower is excellent. We truly appreciated the dishwasher and the washing machine as we are here for an extended stay. The cottage is within walking distance to all the great restaurants, pubs and shops. We highly recommend Potting Cottage. It is,by far, one of the very best self catering spots we have had the pleasure of renting. Thank you Marc and Helen!

Owner's reply: So glad you had a good time in Pottings and Hastings, look forward to welcoming you back soon.
