Located near the sea front and in Hastings historic old town, Potting Cottage offers the ideal escape for a romantic weekend for two or for a longer and leisurely break. It is an early 19th century fisherman's cottage that oozes charm and cosiness. Attached at its side is a smoke house that the fishermen would use to prepare the days catch of fish. Made fully residential in the late 1970's, both the smoke house and the cottage have been recently converted into this snug hideaway for holiday makers. The conversion retains the cottages rustic character while having been transformed into a special and stylish holiday home experience.
From the moment you enter, you will set your eyes upon the living room's centre piece the original early 19th century stone fire place newly restored and equipped with a with a wood burning stove. The room has solid wooden floors a new sofa bed and an antique armchair. There is a 32" LCD TV with built in DVD and Freeview. The living room also contains an antique wooden dining table that seats four. Accessed by patio doors, is a small private courtyard which can be lit by fairy lights, the courtyard is equipped with a portable barbeque and four chairs and table.
Located in the lower part of the old smoke house, the kitchen is compact and equipped for all needs containing a four ring ceramic hob cooker, washing machine, dish washer, fridge with ice box and microwave. There is also a kettle, toaster and stove top espresso maker. The kitchen has a supply of spices, herbs, oil & vinegar, tea, coffee and sugar.

Outside the Old Town
If you plan to walk further, then the beginning of the East Hill country park, with its stunning coastal views and woodland walks, is five minutes walk. There are steps up to the top of the hill or the top can be reached by the 19th century rail lift. Here, you will enjoy impressive views of the Old Town valley.
If you fancy a sea front stroll, then from the cottage it is a short walk further west to St. Leonards. In the 19th century the area was expanded to become a sea side resort and much of the impressive architecture from this era still remains along the sea front. A short drive, bike or bus ride will take you along the sea front to the nearby coastal town of Bexhill, with its art deco era De La Warr Pavillion.
Further inland from Hastings, historic medieval towns such as Winchealsea, Rye and Robertsbridge are a short drive as is the medieval Bodium Castle. If you want to enjoy beautiful, expansive gardens then Great Dixter and Batemans are also nearby.
Around the Old Town
Hastings Old Town is situated in a valley between the East and West Hills. Many of its houses date back to the Tudor era which can be seen on The High St and All Saints St. The cottage is located in a secluded little pedestrian lane or twitten, from which it is five minutes walk to the beach and a minutes walk to the Old Town High St. On the High St, and nearby George St., you will discover a number of classic Old Town pubs as well as a fine choice of cafes, restaurants, a bakery and a delicatessen. The area is also renowned for its abundance of antique shops. The old town leads directly onto the sea front area known as the Rock-a-Nore with its iconic and unique 25 foot high wooden black huts used to store the fishing equipment and still used for this purpose today. By the net huts is the Stade beach, Stade meaning landing place, where Hastings has Europe's largest beach launched fishing fleet. During the summer months the area becomes the location for a series of free music and art events. The Rock-a-Nore is also the location of the Fisherman's museum and the Jerwood art gallery with its cafe's balcony looking out onto the sea.
If you want to experience a more lively side to the Old Town then there are festivals to enjoy that take place throughout the year, such as the Green man festival, the Seafood and Wine Festival, Hastings Old Town week and the Bonfire Parade.
