Location description from owner

The England region

East Anglia has no spectacular mountains or rivers to disturb the storied, quiet land, full of rural delights. Occupying an area of southeastern England that pushes out into the North Sea, its counties of Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, Lincolnshire, and Cambridgeshire feel cut off from the pulse of the country. Among its highlights is Cambridge, a lovely and ancient university city. East Anglia also has four of the country's greatest stately homes: Holkham Hall, Blickling Hall, Houghton Hall, and Sandringham—where the Queen spends Christmas.

Cambridge: A walk though the colleges is grand, but the best views of the university's colleges and immaculate lawns (and some famous bridges) are from a punt on the river.

Constable Country: In the area where Constable grew up, you can walk or row downstream from the pastel-shaded village of Dedham straight into the setting of one of the English landscape painter's masterpieces at Flatford Mill.

Lincoln's old center: The ancient center of the city has a vast, soaring cathedral, a proper rampart-ringed castle, and winding medieval streets.

Wild North Sea coast: North Norfolk has enormous sandy beaches (great for walking) and opportunities to see seals and birdlife, especially on the salt marshes around Blakeney.

Lavenham: This medieval town is the most comely of the tight-knit cluster of places that did well from the wool trade, with architecture including timber-frame houses gnarled into crookedness by age.

Central Cambridge

In the city that inspired great minds from Charles Darwin to Stephen Hawking, you'll find one of the world's oldest universities, the 1871 Gothic- revival All Saints Church and the gardens favoured by 17th-century poet John Milton. Cambridge is also home to ADC Theatre, the oldest university playhouse in England. Evenings are perfect for taking in the mix of traditional pubs and contemporary restaurants. Climb the tower of the University's Great St Mary's Church for sweeping views of the city.

“tiny cottage,fabulous location”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2016

Castle Hill Cottage is a small cottage with a lot of what i call old english charm. winding small staircase, small kitchen and bath and washer and dryer outside the back door. with all that said it was lovely it reminded me of my grandmothers house in a tiny english village. The cottage was located across the street from a wonderful pub and next door to another. It was within quick walking distance to central cambridge and had many restaurants nearby. the cottage is small and really only suitable for 2 people in my opinion. it has 3 floors, 2 bedrooms and one bath. the top most floor has the queen bed, the second floor has the 2 twin beds and the bath room, the first floor has a small living area with sofa and table and 2 chairs. and the kitchen. it does have tv and excellent wi-fi. since we spent most days exploring it was perfect for our needs. the stairs are tricky and not suitable for small children or people with limited walking or balance issues.
