Location description from owner
The Andalucia region
Granada's Alhambra palace is a must see which was shortlisted one of the new wonders of the world and is only 45 mins drive with the Sierra Nevada Ski Resort 90 mins. Almeria coast is about 60 mins however the stunning freshwater Lake Negretin is only 20 mins which is just spectacular to see plus swimming in freshwater is a whole new experience. There are thermal spring baths and 4 restaurants dotted around the lake where you can relax. You can also hire canoes to explore the lake's untouched beauty or even paraglide to get a bird's eye view.
You can enjoy the splendid untouched beaches of the Cabo de Gato nature reserve one of Spain's best kept secrets and the quiet fishing villages. Or act out your childhood dreams by visiting the Spaghetti Western filming location towards Almeria where there is a western theme park with live shows in the mockup wild west town. There's something for everyone, whatever your passion.
Gor is usually a quiet little mountain village, however starting the 6th of August are the typical Andalusian fiestas with bull runs on the 8th,9th & 10th. The surrounding towns of Baza and Guadix have all you could need in terms of shops, bars and restaurants, also the Cathedral and cave house region of Guadix are particularly worth a visit. The towns have their own fiestas which highlight in the 'Cascamoras' a tradition which started with the towns fighting for possession of the statue of the Virgen back in the middle ages!
For a change of landscape the stunning Castril gorge walk along a wooden walkway pinned to the side of the gorge with the river below, is highly recommended. There are a variety of activities around the surrounding areas including Go-Karting, Horseriding, Paragliding, Canoeing, Fishing, Quadbiking, Walking and Mountain Bike Trails and we mustn't forget the Turkish Baths with relaxation massages.

- Very Good
“Relaxing, peaceful, away from it all holiday.”
Just had a week in La Amapola with my husband and 3 grown up children. We had a wonderful time and particularly enjoyed the peaceful setting. The table tennis kept the family happy whilst I enjoyed the sunbathing with the odd dip in the small pool. The tapas bar in the village was fab and good value and we had a great trip to the Alhambra and the nearby Lake Negratin which was spectacular. Recommended for great scenery, lovely climate (comfortable at night) and friendly owner and locals.
“Beautiful, serene spot for relaxation and the perfect base for day trips!”
La Amapola exceeded our expectations and was the perfect spot to spend our honeymoon! We enjoyed having a fully-serviced kitchen to prepare our own meals and loved having a private patio (partially shaded with grape vines) to enjoy our meals, a glass of wine, and a good book. The grocery store, bakery, butcher shop, and pubs in Gor (a 5 minute walk) had everything that we needed. With quick access to the highway, trips to Granada and the ocean were easy. Local attractions, such as Lake Negratin, are also must-sees. Marc and Sam are wonderful hosts -- always friendly, very knowledgeable about the local area, and eager to involve guests in cultural activities. Great value!
“Friendly and welcoming - a great place for a relaxing holiday”
Ideal location - a couple of minutes walk to the local village where you can still get great tapas with every drink you order and only about an hour from both Almeria airport and Granada/Alhambra Palace by car. Sam and Marc were very welcoming, and we enjoyed relaxing in the garden, where our two boys had fun in the pool and on the trampoline, and playing table tennis. The Alhambra palace is only about an hour away by car, and is definitely worth a visit - best to book online before you go.
“Excellent location in a very pleasant village.”
Peaceful just what we needed. Swimming pool few minutes walk away in the village. Easy access to surrounding areas ie. thermal baths, market and not too far from Granada if you want to sightsee.. 3 pubs and cafes in the village serving excellent wines and food. Restuarant nearby if you don't want to cook although the Amapola is well equipped with all that you would need.
Thanks very much, we're glad you enjoyed your stay and liked the surrounding area. Hope to see you both again soon in the near future. Marc and Sam
