A rustic 3BR / 2 BA medieval home in the small, hill-top village of Vitiana. You experience authentic small-town Italy, a place where residents still buy fresh vegetables, meat, cheese and wine from the local farm! The house is perfect for a retreat from city life, close to the spa town of Bagni di Lucca and within the heart of Northern Tuscany for easy access to Florence, Pisa, Lucca, the coast and ski resorts. Looking out the house windows, take in wonderful views of the Alps, chestnut forests, and villages nestled in the hillsides of the Garfagnana region! House includes master bedroom & bath, large sunroom with sitting area, game table, library and day bed, two additional bedrooms, modern bathroom, laundry room, huge living/dining room with a table for 16 people, kitchen with fireplace and table for four, and foyer with books and brochures for attractions all over northern Tuscany. Linens and towels provided. Situated on the top of a hill with the church at its highest point, Vitiana is a delightful working village with vineyards and organic farming. There is a bar in the piazza, a bakery van visits each morning, and fresh farm produce, meats and cheese (including wine) can be obtained in the village. Surrounded by chestnut forests and breathtaking scenery, you feel as if you are resting in the hands of nature. Vitiana is 10 minutes to Fornoli or Bagni di Lucca, the nearest villages with shops, and within easy access of the coast, ski resorts, Lucca, Florence and Pisa.
Nestled in the Lima Valley, Bagni di Lucca feels like an alpine village even though it is only 152 meters above sea level. Known for its thermal springs and their therapeutic properties, which became popular in the 11th century, the town was also home to Lord Byron, Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
