Situated in an acre of private gardens, the cottage is approached from the A48, through a secure, electric gate to the private driveway. This pretty and very secluded converted barn is the ideal location for rest and relaxation, just 2 miles from Lydney - the gateway to the Royal Forest of Dean.
Downstairs the Barn is open plan. The kitchen/dining area contains an upright "half and half" fridge/freezer, halogen hob, oven and a dishwasher, dining table and four chairs. The boiler supplies hot water, day and night and the central heating is controlled easily with the Hive Thermostat and thermostatic valves on the radiators in each room, offering you the ultimate in comfort.
The lounge has a corner sofa, large enough for 3/4 people and two bucket chairs - enabling you to enjoy the view through the French doors to the garden to watch the wildlife. There is a wall mounted electric fire and TV. Amazon Prime and Netflix is provided free of charge, so you don't have to miss your favourite shows on the days when you feel like staying in and chillaxing! As mobile signals can be sporadic in the Forest, there is a landline telephone with "honesty box" in the lounge to enable you to make calls in comfort. WiFi is free. We provide a DVD player and several DVD's at the property for your further enjoyment, along with books and games.
Well behaved pets are welcome at £10 per pet per stay. Please advise how many pets you will be bringing when requesting a quote, or advise when emailing us. Pets are not permitted upstairs or on the furniture unless covered completely with your own throw.
There is also an Alexa Show in the lounge from which you can view the entry gate, answer the doorbell, play radio or your favourite songs, playlists etc.
The newly refurbished bathroom comprises a sink, toilet and bath with handles. (No dogs in the bath please!)
There is an outside shower with thermostatic control for washing off muddy paws or for a full doggie shampoo, or for removing mud from boots.
Upstairs the main double bedroom has a wardrobe, a Freeview TV and an en-suite shower room.
The second bedroom has a queen bed and a single bed, a small wardrobe, chest of drawers and Freeview TV.
The large, wild gardens at the front and the rear make the Barn a great location for amateur bird and wildlife spotters, attracting visits from otters, heron, kingfishers and buzzards. There is a patio in front of the French doors with a table and four chairs - along with cushions and an umbrella for when it is warm and dry. There are steps leading down to Colne Brook with a further seating area allowing you sit and watch the brook and passing birds and fish. At the rear of the property there is a small raised patio area with a bistro table and two chairs.
(Smoking is not permitted inside the cottage, and guests are requested to provide their own ash/litter containers for smoking outside).
Located on the A48 between Chepstow and Lydney, the Barn is an ideal base for exploring the historical cities of Cardiff, Bristol, Bath, Gloucester and Cheltenham and the many castles in the area. Nearby local attractions include the Royal Forest of Dean, Chepstow Castle, Symonds Yat Rock, famous for its nesting Peregrine falcons, Clearwell Caves, Perrygrove Railway and Puzzlewood - where many popular series and films have been filmed (Merlin, The Hobbit and Star Wars). Other attractions within a 40 minute drive include Gloucester Cathedral, where some of Harry Potter was filmed, and Brunel's SS Great Britain in Bristol.
Swan Tea Rooms is directly opposite Colne Brook Barn, which serves good food including afternoon teas, and is fully licensed. There are 4 pubs within a 5 minute drive or a short walk away, providing good food. There are 2 local shops, one in Woolaston, one in the BP Garage in Alvington, both around half a mile.
