Above and beyond

We just returned from spending 12 days in Casa do Souto and it was simply perfect for our needs. House, pool, garden was immaculate and our 3 children had a fantastic time in the pool every chance they got. Some wonderful villages close by for day trips. My favourite was Ponte Da Lima , some fantastic beaches and wonderful local cuisine. Tapas in Aldreu for daily fresh rolls and croissants. The owner Maria was simply the best host I have ever experienced, so generous and kind and thoughtful even cooking dinner one evening for us which was delicious. A very intelligent and interesting well travelled lady whom we thoroughly enjoyed chatting too. Maria was so respectful of your privacy yet always on hand if you needed anything. If you are looking for a rural setting yet close to a lot of interesting villages and the beach and a very comfortable base then Casa do Souto has it all. Lovely apartment, ideal location, helpful owners

Sometimes the small things make all the difference. The Apartment was bright and airy and in a great location to explore the Port Wine Cellars. This has everything you need for a stay, this includes a Washing machine (which did not seem to be listed when we booked). There were even additions such as washing liquid that could be used. But it is the small things, both Julia and her Son were extremely helpful and waited for us to arrive after our Trains were severely delayed. The rooms contained reclaimed and repurposed furniture and was quirky in the nicest way. The main bed in the bedroom was large and comfortable. What was really nice though was a welcome bottle of Port (of course) which provided a lovely tipple when we first arrived. Family Holiday

A lovely house with lots of space, in a great rural setting. All the rooms where clean, spacious and comfortable. The owners were very helpful and hospitable, providing useful information on where to go and especially where to eat. Don Carlos is a must go to restaurant and is only a short 15 minutes drive. Everyone made good use of the facilities at the house including the fantastic pool and games room. We had a some great day trips to Porto, Braga, even Spain which was no more than an hour from the villa. Not forgetting our visits (every Thursday) to the largest outdoor market in Barcellios. A big thank you to Ana, Gustavo and the rest of the family, who made us feel welcome and couldn’t of been more helpful. We would certainly recommend the villa to anyone who was looking to go and discover Northern Portugal. … see more

Lovely authentic property

A lovely clean Portuguese property with wooden floor throughout plus tiling in the hallway. The bedrooms were spacious with shutters and there was an enclosed balcony which we used a lot. The kitchen was big enough for a table and provided a good communal space. The bathroom is a good size - there is a shower over the bath plus a toilet and another next door. Although a little away from the centre, it was walkable plus the metro was right opposite making access very easy, both into Porto and to/from the airport. We enjoyed eating out locally at the Universal restaurant and little patisserie around the corner. Joao was very helpful and responded quickly to any queries - he even let us leave our bags with him for a couple of hours after checking out.
