“Relaxing undeveloped area, great pool” Had a wonderful few days relaxing by the enormous pool in fantastic weather and stocking up on local food at the excellent local deli (2 mins walk) Richard & Noirin kindly supplied a very generous and thoughtful welcome basket and the villa was clean and well equipped. Not much to do in village (still fairly undeveloped for tourism but that also added to its charm) but easy access by hire car to Lecce (wonderful walled city) Gallipoli and Otranto (great swimming beaches)

An unforgettable villa in an unforgettable place

Review of Casa Mare, May/June 2013 In spite of a glowing description, all too often villas booked through the internet fall short of expectations. But Casa Mare far exceeded them. First impressions count, and to walk from hot sunshine through the large villa gate to discover a beautiful shaded pergola, the air filled with the scent of jasmine, the hint of blue water sparkling through the leaves, set the scene perfectly. The villa is large, light and airy and very pretty. The three bedrooms have masses of wardrobe and drawer space, the kitchen is particularly well equipped and the solar powered hot water never runs out. In the sitting room there is a treasure trove of books, games, DVDs and most important of all the Black File. We used this hive of information every day and found it invaluable. The television is larger than most people possess in their own homes and picks up just about all the English channels (including children’s) one could need. There was the promise of a Welcome Basket awaiting us – but we didn’t expect a delicious dinner also to be there. What a relief with two tired little children, and much needed by the four of us adults too after a long day of travelling. The garden is a delight, with a large shady terrace in front of the villa and so many areas for basking in the sun – always a glass in hand! Plenty of shady areas too. To one side, the fruit and vegetable garden produces more than most green grocers in England. The star of the garden is the large, warm, enticing blue pool, with plenty of sitting areas and loungers all around. The pool is constantly maintained and cleaned to the highest standard. There are also masses of pool toys for the children. We chose this villa originally because we wanted a sandy beach close by. It is so close that you can hear the gentle waves lapping on the sand when you lie in bed, no road to cross. We swam in the sea, built sand castles and enjoyed a sundowner most evenings. We explored the whole local area. Southern Italy doesn’t have the sophistication of more northern Italy and this is reflected in the fact that the cost of living is so much cheaper here. Everywhere there are glorious olive groves, charming little villages and towns, excellent little shops filled with delicious fresh food (a 15 minute walk along the beach to Lendinuso is a must for breakfast croissants and fresh rolls in the mornings) and there are some delightful restaurants close by that are not over priced. Puglia wine is in profusion with gutsy reds and mouth watering rosés to match the best and most expensive in Europe. Talking of wine, we went on an extremely interesting wine tasting trip for a day with Paola and Donna. We enjoyed it so much we have arranged to have some wines shipped to England. Do not miss a visit to historic Leccé, about 20 minutes away once you are familiar with the road. Do not miss Torre San Genaro either (20 minutes walk) with dancing and singing in the square in the evenings for young and old alike, and a delicious inexpensive pizza at the White Bar. Finally, Debbie and Bob Lane, the owners, are on the spot to act immediately if anything is required. They could not have been more charming, and never, ever intruded. We were very grateful for their advice and suggestions on several occasions. Our children adored their cats in the garden, though they never came into the villa. All reviews must have a downside: this is one of the few places left in Europe that remains unspoilt, with wonderful sunshine and charming, friendly people everywhere. The downside is that one day it will be discovered by tourist developers and follow the same pattern as many other similar parts of Europe. Get there quick before that happens! … see more

Stunning villa and perfect location for relaxing Italian holiday

This was our second stay at one of Richard and Noirin's villas, so we already knew that the villa was going to be amazing. We were not disappointed - the villa itself was spotless and so well maintained. The kitchen was very well stocked with all the cooking equipment you could need. In addition to this the fantastic welcome basket that was left was enough to keep us going for a good few days. The villa has a washing machine, which was so handy having 2 children who constantly change their clothes! A large clothes airer and pegs are all provided. There is an area in the villa containing books and games to keep everyone entertained. The wifi connection is excellent, and there is also a TV in the villa. The outside area is fantastic - the kids loved the HUGE pool! There are so many different areas to relax both in the sun and shade. There is a wonderful barbecue area and plenty of seating areas to both eat and chill out in the sun. The outside toilet and shower are so handy, and are once again spotlessly clean. The pool is exceptionally well maintained, with Richard coming twice a week to clean the area. The information book provided in the villa is really well thought out and contains such valuable information about the local area and different activities available. In addition to this Richard and Noirin are always on hand if you have any queries or questions about local restaurants, great places to visit etc. They responded immediately to any questions that we texted to them and their knowledge on Lendinuso and the surrounding areas is fantastic. As hosts they have got the balance just right in terms of being at your disposal should you need it, but never being intrusive with it. The villa is set in a quiet road in a traditional village - perfect for exploring. There is a local bakery, butchers and fishmongers all providing a delicious range of fresh products. The beach is just a few minutes walk away and there are a number of bars and cafes along the coast where you can enjoy refreshments. We had a fabulous time here, and we will definitely be returning to the area in the future, and without doubt will be booking into one of Richard and Noirin's villas. … see more
