It is renowned for its miles of golden beaches (Blue Flag Award) and turquoise water The area has its own Irish College where children come in summer to learn the Irish Language The area has a unique history and culture and was the mainland connection for the monks that lived on Skellig Michael The Blue Flag Beach, where the 16th Century Castle of the McCarthy was built to protect the bay from pirates is a few minutes walk from Dungegan and is spectacular in fine weather but also makes for a beautiful setting for walking or some quiet thought on a blustery day The village of Dungegan is typical of most rural Irish villages. Village life is centered on the local pubs in the evenings, where you can enjoy traditional Irish music and dancing.
