The Island of Gozo region
Gozo the Island Of Calypso, known also as an Island of Paradise where time stood still. The Island of Sunshine and History.
Gozo is called The Romantic Island of Calypso and Ulysses. An island with friendly people, beautiful beaches, farmhouses, Cathedrals, Neolithic Temples, Archeology and History.
Gozo is one of the Mediterranean's most serene, striking and unique islands with plenty of world-famous sites to visit during your holiday. It's little wonder that it is often referred to as an island paradise.
Steeped in myth and brimming with cultural character you'll never be bored. Time may have stood still but Gozo has something for everyone. Its rugged landscape begs exploration, it's rocky inlets make it the perfect spot to snorkel and history lovers will be spoilt for choice. From beaches and churches, to museums and world-heritage sites, like the Neolithic Temples in Xaghra and the Azzurre Window in Dwejra you'll be glad you chose to explore this tiny island. There is a lot to do while in Gozo like; Diving, Walking, Rambling, Cycling, Gastronomy, sports, nightlife and also language learning.
Beaches and seaside resorts in Gozo:
Ramla Bay, Marsalforn Bay, Dwejra, Hondoq ir- Rummien, Xlendi Bay, San Blas, Mgarr x-Xini
Xaghra is the largest and most sought after village in Gozo. It is situated on a hill which is one of the hills on the emblem of Gozo. The village with breahtaking views of valleys and beaches. The village of Xaghra is very popular as there are the most popular places in Gozo and a lot of history.
The Neolithic Ggantija Temples in Xaghra are a World Heritage Site and completely unique. The oldest freestanding temples in the world, they date back to 3500BC and they are attributed to a mythical giantess. These temples are older than the Pyramids of Egypt.
These temples are a must-see for any Gozitan vacation.
There are also the stalactites and stalagmites caves and the windmill.
There is also Calypso Cave which is overlooking a large sandy beach called Ramla Bay.This is where Gozo got it's name as the Island of Calypso. The legend says that Calypso who was a nymph, saved Ulysses who got shipwrecked and kept him with her for seven years.
.There is also Ramla Bay ( Ramla il-Hamra ) which is the largest, the most popular and most unspoilt beach on Gozo. It is awash with red sand. The sea is shallow and perfect for children, except on windy days. In the summer months it is popular with swimmers, sun worshipers and idlers who sit around tables beneath sun umbrellas at a kiosk, sipping cool drinks and nibbling snacks. During the winter Ramla l-Hamra affords pleasant peaceful walks. A statue dedicated to Our Lady of Hope stands vigil in the middle of the beach.
Apart from all these Xaghra is the only village which has got a very nice square lined with cafetterias, bars and restaurants which are open all day. People selling fresh vegetables and fruit. Pharmacy, butcher shops, newspaper shops, banks etc..A square where you can spend some time drinking and talking to the local friendly people of Xaghra. There is also a very large nice church dedicated to our Lady of Victory.
The feast of Xaghra is celebrated on the 8th of September, with a whole week of fireworks, bands playing, processions and so on.
There are always activities going on, like in Carnival, Easter, Christmas time, summer feasts etc.

"Fantastic villa, lovely island, friendly owners"
There were ten of us - 6 adults, 3 children and 1 baby. Large really nice villa and very helpful and friendly owners. Large kitchen with large dining table and all white goods e.g. fridge/freezer, washing machine etc. Good size pool with loungers and lovely views over the countryside. It was very hot during our stay so we were thankful for the air conditioning particularly at night. You pay extra for this and obtain the pay cards from the owners. We thought it was good value costing roughly 10 euros per night for all five bedrooms. The village is quite close - perhaps 15 minute stroll with plenty of restaurants and mini markets, We also did major shops at the large supermarkets in Victoria or on the way to Victoria. Would recommend you use the owners car hire service on the island and they will also collect you from the airport and take you to the villa (via the ferry) and return. We are hoping to return again in the future as we had a fantastic holiday!

"The perfect place for a family holiday in beautiful Gozo"

"No title could do justice..."
No title could do justice to the experience of staying here.
Pauline was a great host; helpful, on hand when needed yet unintrusive. She gave local recommendations when asked for and was a breeze to communicate and organise with. It is hard to appreciate a good host until one experiences to the contrary, but we were in very good hands from start to finish.
The farmhouse itself is beautiful, quite classically decorated and the rooms are well-appointed.
If you're reading this then I'm guessing you want to know whether or not you want to stay here. Here are some things which may help.
Highlights (for us):
- the gas BBQ & grill on the patio
- the incredible view, including sunrise from the balcony.
- the location is so peaceful but so connected for when you want (see below). No disturbances.
- within hazy-stumbling distance of Xaghra Square (honestly 7, straight-line minutes), Ramla Bay (20) and some really old ancient things (10).
- air conditioning
- spacious, not just in sleeping capacity but also in living areas i.e. kitchen and living room. It can entertain as many as it can sleep.
- Gozo transport is incredibly cheap, efficient and good quality.
- the local community are warm, good-humoured and friendly.
Some things to be prepared for:
- mosquitos will have a go, unless the farmhouse is since equipped with nets, guards or working deterrents.
- that's about it.
In case it's helpful - we're in our mid-twenties. We saw mostly older families/friends here (and not overrun with tourists in May/June). We found Gozo & Malta neither too quiet nor too hectic, and with plenty of room for either extreme if you so desire. Take a good book for the poolside and go clubbing in La Grotta on Friday night/morning.
Gozo is beautiful. You should go. Just leave room for us.

"Fantastic Holiday - Perfect Villa"
We stayed in Gozo at the end of May/beginning of June. We were a party of 4 adults and a 4 year old child. The owners of the villa, Pauline & Mario, made us feel very welcome, and were always on hand if needed.
The transport, arranged by Pauline, from the airport to the villa was faultless.
The villa itself was beautiful, Very spacious inside, and perfect for large parties and very well equiped.
The pool was a big hit with our daughter, who was the first one in every morning at 7:30.
We hired a car for a few days & visited Malta. We also purchased a weeks bus ticket (€6.50 per adult), which gave us unlimited travel around Gozo.
The village itself is quiet, but has a few restaurants anfd supermarkets. We had lunch a few times in the cafe/patisserie in the square by the church. Very good value & delicious cakes.
We used the Lighthouse supermarket, the fruit & veg market stall & the Aldi by Victoria.
For dinner, the best restaurant to visit is Tal Furnar. The food is delicious. We went a few times, and there were so many tasty things on the menu. The owners were very friendly, and we loved chatting with them. Portions are massive.
If it is a relaxing break that you are looking for, then Gozo is perfect.

"Wonderful week of relaxation"
From the start of the booking process to the end of our trip, our experience with Pauline and Mario at Is-Setah was outstanding. Pauline was very responsive to initial inquiries and helpful in answering any questions we had about the property. Just to give an example: when we arrived in Malta, our flight was delayed, and we ended up missing the intended ferry. Mario stayed at the ferry terminal in Gozo personally to make sure we ended up at the right place, even though it was after 1:00 am on Easter Sunday. They were also very helpful when we needed them during the week, as they live quite close to the rental property.
The villa itself is very spacious. The common room is large, and with the open-plan stone staircase, feels gigantic - not to mention the great views of the valley out to the sea. The kitchen was well-equipped, although a few more wine glasses would have been appreciated. The entire house was immaculately clean upon our arrival. The terrace area and the pool were wonderful spaces to relax and enjoy the view, and the barbecue grill provided a lot of entertainment. The pool area is especially beautiful at night: very well-lit and warm. The plants were well cared-for.
The bedrooms and bathrooms had very high quality furnishings (beds made of real wood, stone bathrooms - this is not IKEA furniture). The architectural details of the house (especially upstairs) really made the place interesting - arches and balconies, a large staircase, the entryway - and we appreciated the attention to detail.
The village of Xaghra is really an ideal base from which to visit Gozo. It's minutes away from Victoria, but it feels isolated enough to be "away from it all." The Xaghra village square is within walking distance of this villa, and we thought the restaurants on the square made it worth several return trips. That being said, although it's not strictly necessary, I would recommend a car rental, since nearly any place on the entire island will be accessible to you within 20 minutes.
It was hard to leave at the end of the week! Thanks, Pauline and Mario!

We booked the two adjacent villas from Paulina and Mario so that family and friends could all be together for our daughter's wedding. The accommodation was of the highest quality with a glorious patio area and pool for BBQ's and swimming. Perfectly located for the best beach (Ramla) in Gozo and ideal for the ferry to Comino's Blue Lagoon and Malta. Gozo is far more sedate than Malta and all the more beautiful for it with great seaside locations such as Marselforn and Xlendi, which have excellent sea food restaurants. The inland sea and Azure window is also worth a visit. We did kayaking, scuba and snorkling. The people are very friendly and Paulina and Mario were superb hosts, even giving the bride and groom a card, bottle of fizz and local garland to hang on the door...the villas and the people definitely made the wedding break the great success it was and we will definitely go back as well as recommend them to anyone else contemplating a trip to Gozo....wonderful.Thank You Paulina & Mario.
