About this location

The Sicily region

Discover the West of Sicily, from the jagged coastline and wild to the ancient Greek Temples, from the charming fishing villages to small hilltop villages - an extraordinary mixture of colours and flavours. This is Mediterranean culture, both ancient and modern. This is Sicily.

Besides, just a few thousand metres from the shores of Trapani, there are the three Egadi islands. Despite being so close to the mainland, they have very much their own identity and have managed to preserved much of their natural beauty and antiquated charm. It is possible to reach them by boat, hydrofoil or ferry and to stay on the islands, although the largest, Favignana, offers the most tourist-friendly accommodation.

Trapani is a lovely city on the West Sicilian coast and it is one of the most romantic places in the Mediterranean Sea. The town is located in an unmatched natural scenery: rising between the sea and a mountain, framed by the Egadi islands on the West, the saltpans on the South, Mount Erice on the East and a mild and fertile hill landscape all around. Under Arab dominion, Trapani was a flowering centre for the production of salt, tuna, and coral. In the 16th century, Trapanese coral artisans made the city famous throughout the Old World. A gorgeous collection of works in coral is preserved in the local Museum.

Bu the most attractive thing to know about Trapani is its origin, something in between History and Myth. The Elymians, of Phoenician extraction, named the city Drepanon, which translated means "sickle". Legend tells that Demeter, goddess of harvests and of plenty, whilst seeking her lost and beloved daughter dropped her sickle in a moment of despair, and as it fell to earth and landed by the sea, Trapani grew in its place, retaining the form of the Goddess' scythe.

Moreover, as part of the religious culture of the city, Good Friday has a famous event in which twenty wooden statues depicting Christ's passion and death are paraded through the streets in solemnity in a fusion of folklore and faith, practised since the 1700's. Local gastronomy is a fascinating mix of Italian, Sicilian and oriental cookery: its specialities are fish couscous, sweet-and-sour aubergine caponata, lamb meat, almond pastries and ricotta cakes..Just go and try them!

"Would not recommend"

Hi, thank you very much for your review and here is our reply even though a bit late. I am sorry you felt like the owner was not honest with you. The place was not under construction but, as you have promptly been told, as it was low season the entire building had to go to an external renewal which was not afflicting the apartment itself.
The other room was locked as you just paid for one room not for the entire apartment. Besides, we did let you use the apartment for just one night and then kept it for you for free for 3 extra nights while you were having your excursion in Palermo, and then rent it to you again when you got back.
We are really sorry you did not feel comfortable at Casina delle Palme and we would have loved you to tell us once there so that we could have done our best to help you. Unfortunately though, we did have no bad feedback from you once you were there and the note you left on the apartment diary was great insted! We just found this complain message here. Hope we can have you again as guests soon and we will try our best to make you feel at home this time.
Best regards,
the staff

"Cute apartment in town with everything you need..."

I stayed at this apartment with my boyfriend in November of 2011..a lovely apartment furnished with everything. Great showers, heaps of space and smack bang in the centre of town. It's on the first floor so you can sleep easily, unlike some other places in town where you need earplugs on saturday night ! Opposite a gelateria and 2 minutes from the port. Claudia is a legend. Go to Trapani !
