The Sicily region

Sicily (Italian and Sicilian: Sicilia) is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Several much smaller islands surrounding it are considered to be part of Sicily.

The area was highly regarded as part of Magna Graecia, with Cicero describing Siracusa as the greatest and most beautiful city of all Ancient Greece.

The island was once a city-state in its own right, and as the Kingdom of Sicily ruled from Palermo over southern Italy, Sicily, and Malta. It later became a part of the Two Sicilies under the Bourbons, a kingdom governed from Naples that comprised both the island itself and most of Southern Italy.

The Italian unification of 1860 led to the dissolution of this kingdom, and Sicily became an autonomous part of the Kingdom of Italy. Sicily is today an autonomous region of Italy. Of all the regions of Italy, Sicily is the one that covers the largest land area at 25,708 square kilometres (9,926 sq mi) and currently has just over five million inhabitants.

Sicily has its own unique culture, especially with regard to the arts, cuisine, architecture and language. The Sicilian economy is largely based on agriculture (mainly orange and lemon orchards); this same rural countryside has attracted significant tourism in the modern age as its natural beauty is highly regarded. Sicily also holds importance for archaeological and ancient sites such as the Necropolis of Pantalica and the Valley of the Temples.

Sicily is most important region of Italy for culture, climate, sea. nature, archaeology, history and folk

Taormina

Taormina is a charming hillside town on the east coast of Sicily, Italy and is one of the island's main tourist resorts. Whilst Taormina can be hot and busy during July and August, crowded with Italian tourists, it is far more pleasant and (slightly) less busy during the rest of the year. Taormina is most beautiful town of the Mediterranean area.

"Comfortable flat, handy location and very helpful owner."

Our host was very helpful before and during our stay, recommending restaurants for our first night, and even preparing a little surprise for our 10-year-old, whose birthday was on the day of our arrival. Comfortable, clean flat and nice terrace/garden. Just right for our family (3 children aged 10,7,7) Little shops very nearby and then a 5-minute walk (100m along main road and then steps down) to the old town of Taormina. We were there in October so everything was a bit quieter than high season, but it was easy to park outside the apartment building.

Thank you very much for the review!!! J hope see you again! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!! Pancrazio

"just brilliant"

After many hours of searching to find accommodation that will be suitable for a family vacation with a young child I came across this one.

The location is simply brilliant. You are within walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and sights Taormina has to offer. You are also just a bus ride or nice walk from castelmola. Ideal if you just don't want the hassle of car rental or to suffer the difficulties of the narrow winding roads and limited parking spaces the town has to offer. There is a bus stop right outside the accommodation and a bakery that's sell everything you need for a snack, from ham to beer. There is also a mini market with a wider selection of groceries just a few yards further down.

The accommodation itself was lovely, clean and well-furnished and pleasantly decorated. It has a lovely private garden area with lovely olive trees and plants. We spent many hours out there taking in the lovely scenery.

The owner is really nice and helpful with the added bonus that he lives above so is always on hand should you need anything.

Brilliant all round.

Thank you very much for the review!!! J hope see you again! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!! Pancrazio
