The Island of Gozo region
Gozo is a small island in the Mediterranean which forms part of the Maltese archipelago. It has a population of 31,000 people and the island is known for its scenic hills as it is more rural in character. It is very rich in history and one can visit interesting locations, such as, Ggantija Temples which are one of the oldest free-standing structures. A visit to the Cittadella fortifications in the old part of Victoria is a must. The Cittadella is a UNESCO Culture World Heritage Centre. You can walk along the narrow roads running all around the fortifications and enjoy the medieval heritage. Stop at the Cathedral Church of Santa Maria, and yoy may also visit the old prisons in the main square. Other places of interest are the Azure Window in Dwejra, and the National Shrine and Basilica Of the Santwarju ta' Pinu. Gozo's finest beaches are San Blas and the stunning Ramla Bay with orange-red sand and clear waters.
According to research, Nadur was founded during the time of the Greeks. The village has a population of 5000 people and it is the second most populated town in Gozo, after the capital city Victoria (Rabat). Nadur has become popular for its original carnival street parties in February, which attracts thousands of people of all ages. The religious feast of Nadur is celebrated on 29 June and the parish church is dedicated to St Peter and St Paul. This Nadur basilica is definitely worth a visit as it is an artistic monument of architecture and paintings. I would also recommend a walk near ta' Kenuna Tower to enjoy the panoramic views of nearly the whole island of Gozo, and the Malta and Gozo channel.
