About the home

A relaxing, contemporary and luxurious holiday apartment with shared pools in the secure D. Manuel complex, which is ideally situated in the Lagos Marina, fitted with central heating/air conditioning. It is near enough to town to enjoy the great variety of restaurants and shops, as well as savouring the history of this town, but still far enough away not to be disturbed by the hustle and bustle of town.

The Marina itself offers a variety of restaurants and cafés, where you can relax while watching the gentle swing of boats rocked by the sea breeze. The centre of town and its well stocked fish and fruit market are a 10 minute walk from the apartment. Meia Praia beach, with its long stretch of golden sand is also a 15 minute walk from the apartment.

A 10 minute walk will take you to the train station. There is a large supermarket across the road from the block of apartments with a small coffee bar, a dry cleaning/laundry service and a florist. There is also a cash machine where you can use your Maestro card.

The apartment is situated on the second floor and is serviced by a lift and secure entrance (with key or safety code).

- Second bathroom with marble floor and vanity area, shower, WC, wall to wall mirror and wall mounted hair dryer;
- Large living/dining room furnished with leather sofas, coffee table, uplighter/reading lamp, flat screen TV, DVD player, audio player, dining table for up to 8 people;
- Well equipped kitchen with oven & hob, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and all the small appliances that you might need: toaster, kettle, steam iron and ironing board, electric sweeper, coffee maker, citrus juice maker.
- Bed linen and towels are provided; however, please bring your own beach towels for use at the beach and pool;
- Maid service: the apartment is cleaned before your arrival; bed linen and towels are changed every week, with a further change of towels and quick tidy-up mid-week.

- Balcony with view over the pool, marina and town, with table and chairs.
- This large balcony gets the sun in the morning until early afternoon and is ideal for "al fresco" meals even in Winter!

Our English representative, with many years of experience of this region of the Algarve, will be waiting for you on your arrival to give you the keys (two sets provided) and answering any queries you might have. She will be available throughout your stay, in case you need to contact her.

Upon booking you will be given her mobile number. When you are ready to leave Faro's airport you are requested to give her a call on her mobile to let her know you are on your way to the apartment.

- 20% deposit needed to secure the booking; balance is payable 4 to 6 weeks prior to the start of the holiday;

The Algarve / West Algarve region

This region is served by excellent golf courses, of which Palmares and Boa Vista are less than 10 minutes drive away. Driving a bit further you can enjoy the golf courses of Parque da Floresta, Penina and Morgado do Reguengo, all of which were designed by famous names. All of them offer nice restaurants where you can relax after a round with your friends.

If you are a fan of motor sports, a visit to the new race track "Autódromo do Algarve" is a must: the track, nestled in the hills, has already been inspected and cleared byt the FIA to run F1 cars. During 2009 it will host the A1 Grand Prix, the Le Mans series, World Superbike Championship and the GT Championship.

Nearby, the coastal village of Salema has some small Roman ruins that remind us of its previous occupiers. The town of Sagres is situated at the most western point of Europe, and offers scenery of rugged but incredible beauty, with its cliffs stretching out to bathe in the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The promontory is called Cabo de S. Vicente (Cape São Vicente) and it was here that Prince Henry the Navigator planned his voyages into the unknown.

If you prefer the countryside, an excursion into the mountain in Monchique will be well worth your time. Monchique is known by its agriculture, forests and water. Crops like lemon and other citric fruits were introduced by the Romans when they occupied this area during the first millennium. The Moors developed this further and it is traditionally one of the many products of this area. The water in Monchique was considered to have special qualities from as early as 1493. In this small village there is a hotel with a superb spa where you can go and pamper yourself for a day.

Other options to explore in this region include a visit to the water park Zoo Marine situated at bout 20 minutes drive from Lagos, with its shows of dolphins, sea lions and seals.

A trip to Algarve Shopping, a shopping centre in Guia, also at about 25 minutes drive from Lagos, is worthwhile as you can combine shopping with a visit to the cinema and finish this with a nice meal.

The Lagos / Marina area

The Marina offers a variety of restaurants and cafés where you can relax while watching the gentle swinging of boats rocked by the sea breeze. If you would rather spend your holiday taking advantage of the many sea activities Lagos has to offer, look no further. Diving and snorkelling trips, for beginners or experts, surf safaris, boat trips, dolphin watching or big game fishing are just some of the ways to spend a glorious sunny day out on the sea.

But this is not all: you can opt for horse riding lessons, tennis lessons, adventure inland on a motorbike trip or simply take a guided walk

At the Marina Club you can enjoy all the facilities of a gym and spa, for a fee. It is also possible to hire bicycles for the day.

In Lagos there are plenty of nice beaches to admire: Meia-Praia (a very long sandy beach that stretches beyond where the eyes can reach with nice villas dotted alongside), Praia da Batata (close to the old fort) and Praia D. Ana, on the edge of town, with its sheltered coves and grottos, to name just a few.

The town itself offers superb dining covering from typical Portuguese food to Italian, Chinese, Indian and International food.

A variety of bars offer a lively atmosphere, helping you to wind down after a strenuous day sunbathing!

We have used this company for over 20 years and found it to be good value and reliable. Although it is not essential to hire a car, it will allow holiday makers to explore this region and all that it has to offer.

Daily flights operate from the UK to Faro airport. Airlines such as Jet2, EasyJet, Monarch Airlines, bmi baby, etc. regularly offer deals from a number of airports in the UK. Your nearest airport will dictate which airline is best suited for you.

It is possible to hire a taxi from and to Faro's airport. Prices per trip are between €60 to €80. We can arrange this service, if required.

I don’t think we could have found a nicer place to have a birthday celebration than in your apartment. Everything about it was first class. Location is excellent. All facilities are just a short walk away and you can find a superb beach close by. We often think back to the super time we had and hope one day to be able to come again.
