The Algarve region
Many people, when hearing the name Algarve, will think of beaches surrounded by impressive rock formations, and perhaps of golf. That is Central and Western Algarve, roughly from Sagres to Faro. Eastern algarve, from Faro to the Spanish border, is quite different.
There are also wonderful beaches, golf and tourism here, but much more low-key. The towns have a more “real” feel to them, and there are many interesting places to discover. Another key difference is the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve that separates land from sea through most of Eastern Algarve.
The coastal towns of the Eastern Algarve (Faro, Olhão, Fuseta, Tavira and Vila Real) are all within easy reach, and the hills of the Algarve (Serra do Caldeirão) with their wonderful spring flowers and spectacular sunsets lie just to the north, 10 minutes away.
Fuseta and Olhão are the ones closest to Casa Flor de Sal and are typical Algarve towns mainly inhabited by locals
The East Algarve is a wonderful location for a relaxed holiday in unspoiled surroundings. Dotted throughout the area you will find wonderful fishing villages, market towns and old roman cities to explore and enjoy, each with wonderful architecture and steeped in history. Beautiful country side and stunning mountain ranges offers wonderful drives and in turn stunning views to the crystal blue ocean lapping the glorious golden sandy beaches of the East Algarve.
Wonderful places to visit include the capital City of the Algarve, Faro, Olhao with its amazing fresh produce markets and stunning desert Islands, the wonderful Old Roman City of Tavira, beautiful Vila Real with its abundance of linen shops, Monte Gordo offering a great beach, nightlife and a casino.
Hire a car or take the train or bus and visit some of the family parks, including Zoo Marine, Aquashow and Feisa.
In the winter months the warm climate makes the East Algarve perfect for a long stay holiday and still in the winter months plenty to do. The region offers plenty of activities including bird watching on the wonderful Ria Formosa natural park, cycling, fishing, walking and enjoying the hustle and bustle of the monthly local markets.
Along with my favorite activity of sitting with a coffee on the esplanades and watching the world go by!

"The best holiday find in a long time"
From the moment we arrived we fell in love with Fuseta and Caa a Ver. The accommodation was finished throughout to a standard that was way above the usual expected for a holiday rental. The kitchen had every possible appliance you could think of and the linen provided was high quality. The sound system and the rain forest shower was just the icing on the cake. Oh I forgot the air conditioning which was so quiet you did not realise it was on! I would recommend this property and this letting agency to all.
