“A lovely base for a lovely holiday” Villa Firdaus is a lovely property, set in pretty gardens overlooking Funchal. It is spacious, and extremely well fitted out. The kitchen is huge, with plenty of working space for several people to be operating at the same time. Our adult daughter holidayed with us, and we could soon put a substantial meal together. There is a supermarket quite close by, and plenty of shopping opportunities in Funchal, particularly the market, which is a must. There are, of course, plenty of excellent eating places in and around Funchal if cooking is not a holiday must. The property manager lives in the basement area (completely detached) and is a wonderful source of information and suggestions for absolutely anything to do with/in Madeira, and especially for restaurants. We stayed in Villa Firdaus for the Christmas/New Year holiday. Compared to Britain the weather was extremely good - though it started a bit on the cold side, with some rain, it gradually got better and better, until we were having lovely sunny, and very warm days. Our one disappointment was that the property was rather cold in the evenings - but as a compensation most mornings found us having breakfast on the terrace. Christmas morning - smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and champagne - just like home - but sitting in sunshine!

“For us this was the perfect choice for our vacation.” The service was exceptional. The gracious manager did everything possible to make our stay comfortable. It seemed he couldn't do enough for us. The recently renovated apartment was like new, spotlessly clean and equipped with every necessary convenience. It was a short 10 minute walk from the Old Town, the Market and numerous fine restaurants. The manager introduced us to a wonderful young English speaking taxi driver who provided us with four outstanding days touring the island's diverse regions including our own particular interests (gardens and levada walks). The highlight of our vacation was the scenery and the friendliness of the people. We can't think of one negative comment about the rental apartment.
