“A gem” This property is a gem. It’s in a beautiful village, tucked away in a valley. It’s comfortable (fantastic bed), spacious for two people, equipped with everything you need and oozes character and charm. The private terrace is a lovely place to start the day over breakfast and return to after a day out. The property has all the mod-cons – aircon, satellite TV, WiFi – and feels homely and cared for.
The owners could not have been more welcoming and full of excellent advice about how best to visit different parts of Tuscany and recommendations for great things to do near by. They were so generous, showering us with their homegrown tomatoes, pears and more. We could not have felt more at home.
Lucca is the perfect town to be close to. It’s less than 15 minutes away and from there it’s an easy train ride to Florence, the coast etc. The village has a few restaurants in it but being able to spend evenings enjoying Lucca (and then be able to get home easily) was a highlight for us.
Our Tuscan holiday was even better than we could have hoped - certainly added to by where we stayed. I can’t recommend this property enough.
Gorgeous farmhouse in the Tuscan hills, private pool, terrace and majestic views, sleeps 8
We had a fabulous time at the farmhouse of the Olives. The farmhouse is amazing, so so beautiful and calming. The lane on the approach is narrow as others had mentioned, due to the aid of the sensors on the car, and good communication, we got through the narrow lane just in the Citron C4 the hire car gave us, but we ended up parking in the village and walking up and down to the the car/village each day, as it was such a lovely walk, and an oppertunity to burn off all the lovely local food we had been enjoying. Also it seemed to be quicker to walk than maneuvering through the lane.
We really appreciated the supplies when we arrived as we hadn't had much time to get shopping on the trip down, so that was great surprise and very well received!
We had a wonderful break at the farmhouse, the building is beautiful, the gardens are stunning, the pool is a fabulous addition and the views are breathtaking. The house it self is so well equipped, everything we needed was to had, and the larder was well stocked on arrival (so few rentals leave any supplies for guests).
We were travelling with our 4 year old, who loved the farmhouse, lots of places to play hide and seek, and adventure around. She loved the pool and the gardens and even walked most of the road to the village herself.
I recommend a trip to Lucca, cycling along the walls, magical! Other recommendation, take lots of mozzie spray if you want to enjoy the alfresco dinning on the beautiful terrace, go full tropical strength, as they are persistent. We got jungle formula kids wrist bands for our daughter and vape kids spray and she was fine, didn't get bitten once.
We had a fabulous holiday would recommend! …
The Refuge Villa and B & B
Wonderful B & B
I recently stayed at Il Rifugio and would like to thank the owners Bill and John for their wonderful hospitality. The B & B is just perfect . It is situated in the middle of a very quaint typically Tuscan village with beautiful scenic views. The house is great, the bedroom with its lovely comfortable bed and fluffy white bed linen is very luxurious, the breakfast is devine and the gardens stunning. All in all it is the best B & B I have ever stayed in and would highly recommend to any future travellers. …
Adorable Tuscan cottage with beautiful garden just outside Lucca, sleeps 2
Perfect Tuscan Vacation!
Amazing! My husband and I visited Il Rifugio over Easter. The cottage is a little hideaway tucked into the Tuscan Countryside. The character and decor of the cottage makes it a perfect place to relax. The Lucca region is a beautiful area with so much to see and do. Il Rifugio makes it easy to relax in the garden, get lost in a book, and enjoy a glass (or two) of Tuscan wine. The village, Sant'Andrea di Compito, sends you back into a medieval world, with olive groves, historic Tuscan villas, and an old church with charming bells reminding you to take in the beauty of the surrounding countryside. The town residents make you feel at home with friendly Buongiornos!
Bill and John are the most accomodating hosts! They pay attention to every little detail in preparing the cottage, and provide a warm welcome throughout your stay, with entertaining stories of their Tuscan adventure, and information on the surrounding areas. After just a 5 night stay, we feel very blessed to call them friends.
Again, we can not say enough good things about Il Rifugio, our hosts, and the Lucca region! We are already planning our next visit! …
The nest on the Camelia Tree
Experience small town Tuscan living!
We experienced all the charm of Tuscan living in this darling rental cottage in Sant' Andrea. The owners have done a great job of renovating and modernizing the interior while keeping all of its original rustic charm: including timber beam and terra cotta ceilings/floors and built-in style kitchen. There's even an original stone washbasin just outside the front door. It was perfect for the two of us, but there is also a pull-out couch that could accomodate two additional adults or children. It is a hilly, rural area and you definitley need a car to see all that this area has to offer. Or, you may find yourself contented to just kick back and enjoy the peaceful surroundings and the small town delights of buying fresh bread at the local store, having a cappucino or aperitivo at the bar, stopping for a drink of water at one of several 'fontanas' as you walk the hills, and and enjoying the best pizza around. We will definitely return! …
Beautiful, fantastic location.
Lovely little house in a charming village. Great location for visiting Lucca,Pisa and Florence. Everything available at the village, i.e. food, wine, cafe and great restaurant. Great bathroom, the downstairs has a fantastic shower. Being built on a hill, this house is definately not for old or infirm guests! Apart from that, the perfect holiday retreat. …
