Zermatt is a car-free village and hence access by private car to the property is not possible.
IMPORTANT IN WINTER: In winter it's only possible to access the property to within 400m by taxi, and after that you must go by foot on a prepared winter trail (direct access by taxi possible in summer). From the town to the chalet it is a 20-25min walk uphill. There is however an elevator during lift opening hours which reduces the amount of uphill and walking time! From the ski piste to the chalet there are steps. Prior to guest arrival we clear the steps of snow and lay grit. However, should there be snowfall then snow clearance may be required during your stay. Should there be insufficient snow on the piste next to the house, it is 400m walk to a snow-sure piste. In winter free luggage transfer is available Monday to Saturday 9am until 4pm unless very poor weather conditions. You therefore must plan to be in Zermatt before 3:15pm at the latest on arrival day! Contact us for more details of arrival arrangements.

The natural and artificial ice rinks in the centre of the village offer free fun on the ice from December to the end of February. This is where the youngest ice sport fans get together, to play at being an ice princess or to compete against each other at ice hockey.

“Chalet Bergheim holiday memories shall be forever treasured”
Historically tales of our holiday dramas and the chaos created have made for good drink party entertainment, and this one was no exception. Chalet Bergheim holiday memories shall be forever treasured. We thank you Will. The journey for us was quite a long one. I was in the company of one husband, two of our sons, ones daughter in law and our near 2 year old grandson, .. his first vacation, pleased to report that he coped incredibly well, and displayed immaculate travel and holiday behaviour. On arrival in Zermatt we were met as arranged in the Square by Gabor, however, and to our dismay, although not surprisingly as we are the original Calamity Family, the prevailing weather conditions prevented the scheduled helicopter luggage transfer and consequently ALL our luggage plus champagne, beer and gin essentials had to be dragged pulled and carried the 400+ metre steepish snow covered path up to the Chalet, (we did opt to take this route - helicopter transfer was offered for the next day), not a task for the weak fainthearted infirm … or me. I am an excellent delegator and soon had each child and husband loaded up like donkeys with at least 2 heavy bags each! … onward troops, character building. Little tiny note here … recommend the purchase of a skidoo with large trailer like sledge attachment, or caterpillar track wheel barrow. (only kidding). It was an absolute delight to reach our final destination, (suitably and ideally placed right next door to one Veuve Clicquot Champagne Bar), the Chalet Bergheim a cosy, warm and most charming residence, well equipped, well maintained, smartly furnished, being specified and detailed to a high standard, … second little tiny note here … the aesthetically pleasing taps over the slate wash basins need to be operated with caution - gently on - to avoid dress wetting, that aside … being established in the mountains, amidst tall snow laden trees with the odd random black furry weasel like creature running by, and with ….. when the weather allowed ….. uninterrupted views of the rocky mountainy magnificently tall and splendid eruption they call the Matterhorn, breathtaking causing tears of prickly delight….. absolutely perrrrfect. ….. foot notes may be helpful to a small percentage given a similar case scenario … Mad Granny, Daughter in Law, Grandson ….. deserted by ….. Granddad, Son and Son. The uphill Chaletward walk was a little more challenging than envisaged, in so much as, yes one reads the detailed briefing regarding reaching the Chalet but not until one is actually there does one fully appreciate what one read … (admittedly this failing is quite possibly conducive to me, the hormonal Mad Granny organising the holiday … who has no concept whatsoever of trudging anywhere under difficulties least not snow covered uphill path like ones), the task slash commitment of carrying a near two year old who does not walk that far, up on a multi x daily basis was not to be taken lightly, the walk from the elevator was the maximum we could endure, from the town would probably have involved the Air Ambulance! And finally, as I am allergic to heavy manual work, I would certainly have accepted and would highly recommend the 'shopping for you' 100 chf service charge seems quite economical in body punishment hindsight. All in all we award a score of 10 out of 10. Totally recommendable.
Thanks Chrissy for your hilarious review! Unfortunately the canton of Wallis won't let us have a snowmobile otherwise we would get one. It only happens about once per season that the helicopters can't fly due to bad weather, sorry that you were the unlucky one. Good job you had plenty of champagne and gin for afterwards! Glad you had a fun time and come back soon. Will
