Everyone will feel comfortable at Ferndale, and the cottage is well-equipped for families with young children.

The master bedroom, kitchen and lounge have magnificent views over the downs. The lounge with large windows in addition to French doors onto the patio, is a beautiful, light, airy room with a log fire place for cosy winter stays.

There is a large, gated, well maintained garden, with plenty of room for children to play and a driveway with parking for three cars. At the bottom of the garden there is a large wild flower meadow, which is part of the property.

Although there are walks to suit people of all ages and abilities from the door, Ferndale is just a short drive from the some of the island's best beaches and tourist attractions. You'll find several excellent pubs in the area, including one in nearby Niton village, where there are also good shops - a 15-20 minute walk from the house.

The master bedroom has a new, extremely comfortable super king bed and two armchairs in which to relax and admire the stunning views over the garden, fields and downs. The second bedroom has a king size bed and is at the back of the house, with views over fields. Bedroom three has 6ft bunk beds and a large cot and views over the garden and fields to the side of the house. Bedroom four is downstairs and has twin beds.

There are two bathrooms upstairs. One is adjacent to the master bedroom and has a large walk in shower, bidet, toilet and wash basin. The second bathroom has a bath, with shower, basin and beautiful views over the downs. There is a separate toilet and basin next door.

Downstairs there is a spacious entrance hall and cloakroom with toilet and basin. The lounge has two sofas and two arm chairs; it seats eight in comfort. There are beautiful views and a fireplace for winter stays. The dining room also seats eight and there is a high chair available.

The kitchen is new and fully equipped. The sink is under the window and has breathtaking views over fields. There is a breakfast bar, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, large fridge / freezer, as well as a microwave, kettle and toaster.

There are several benches in the garden. There are also two tables, eight chairs and a BBQ in the garage for guests to use.

Children are welcome!

There is a cot bed, high chair, and a selection of books and toys for young children (2-5).

Please bring your own beach towels as these are not provided. Should you wish to use the cot you will need to provide your own bedding.

We have an access statement which gives full details of the property. This is sent to everyone who makes a booking, but if you'd be interested in seeing it prior to making a decision - please contact me. I am happy to send it to you.

The England region

With the sunniest weather in the UK, 25 miles of clean, unspoilt beaches and half of it designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Isle of Wight is one of the best spots in Britain you could choose for a cottage break.

WALKING AND CYCLING
Bring your walking shoes and explore the 500 miles of well-marked walking paths and bridleways, with some of the UK's best walking. Visit during May and take part in the Isle of Wight walking festival (visit http://www.isleofwightwalkingfestival.co.uk).
The island has a 62-mile cycleway and is ideal for cyclists. If you don't want to bring your own bike, you can rent one in Ryde, Shanklin, Ventnor and other places.

DINOSAUR ISLAND
Step back in time and discover dinosaur and other fossils during a visit to Yaverland, Brook Bay, Brightstone Bay and many other beaches.

PLACES TO VISIT
There are many historical places to visit, including Queen Victoria's island home, Osborne House (English Heritage), Carisbrooke Castle, where King Charles I was imprisoned before his execution, and a Roman villa near Brading.
While away the time at the excellent RSPB Bird Reserve, which attracts birders from across the country, or take a ride on the Isle of Wight steam railway.

ENTERTAINMENT FOR CHILDREN
The island is ideal for a family holiday and, apart from the island's numerous sandy beaches, the island abounds with attractions and things to do for children of all ages. Particularly worthwhile should be a visit to Blackgang Chine fun park (http://www.blackgangchine.com) on the island's south coast (a short drive from our cottage), which is the UK's oldest fun park and sports water slides, a roller coaster and a haunted castle. A saver ticket will give you access to Blackgang Chine as well as to Robin Hill, an adventure theme park. The Needles Park at the western most point of the Island is also a great day out - take a chairlift ride down to the beach and a boat ride to the Needles.
If your children enjoy animals, then consider a visit to Isle of Wight Zoo, Amazon World, Owl & Monkey Haven or Sea View Wildlife Encounter - just a few of the experiences available to you.

Whitwell

The south coast of the Isle of Wight, west of Ventnor, is the most tranquil and laid back part of the island. Relax over a leisurely lunch in one of the area's outstanding pubs after a visit to St Catherine's Lighthouse, built in the 1830s or, if you are feeling energetic, a walk up to St Catherine's Oratory (built in 1314), which stands at one of the island's highest points.

BEACHES
Compton Bay beach, a short drive from the cottage and best visited during low tide, is excellent for fossil hunting, walking, surfing and swimming. Relax on the beach and watch your children play amongst the many rock pools.

GARDENS
Well worth a visit is nearby Ventnor Botanical Garden (botanic.co.uk), with 22 acres of gardens and over 10,000 plants and an excellent cafe.

FOR CHILDREN
Your children will love Godshill Model village and Blackgang chine theme park, both less than 10 minutes' drive from the cottage.

WALKING
There are many excellent walks in the south of the island. One of our favourite walks starts on the cottage's doorstep, up to the Hoy Monument (built 1814), along the downs, past St Catherine's Oratory and back home through a bluebell wood.

EATING/DRINKING
There are several great pubs nearby:
The White Lion is the nearest pub. It's in Niton, less than a mile away, you can walk there in about 20 minutes. It does great food and has a play area and bouncy castle for kids. (http://www.whitelionniton.co.uk)
The Buddle Inn – formally a smugglers retreat! With cosy log fires in winter and great sea views from the garden in summer. The Buddle is just under two miles away/less than ten minutes by car. (http://www.buddleinn.co.uk)
The White Horse Inn – Whitwell – is, truth be told, our favourite – does fabulous fish and chips. All the food is amazing and its warm, cosy and friendly. It's 1 mile away and less than five minutes by car. (http://www.thewhitehorsewhitwell.co.uk)

“A wonderful family home in a beautiful rural location, dawn was spectacular”

Reviewed 13 Nov 2015

We spent a long weekend here with friends. even in November there are so many places to explore and excellent pubs to eat at. The garden in fantastic and would be wonderful for children it's huge! The view is spectacular we saw buzzards on the ground in the field and walked from the house to the Hoy monument in a gale. We hope to take all our family there next year and may also arrange to meet friends there out of season. Definitely to be recommended.

“Great Place to Stay”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2015

A stunning house with amazing views from many rooms, the house was exceptionally clean and there was fully equipped with everything we could have needed, including books and toys for the children. The house is situated within a short trip to many of the islands best family attractions. Communications from the owner leading up to, during and after our stay was great, I would highly recommend this property for anyone visiting the Island

“Fabulous place for a large family”

Located in a quite place we had a wonderful time at Ferndale. Ferndale was fully equipped with all the household things which was a plus point. My family loved the house so much that it was hard to say good bye.

“wonderfull property in a lovely location”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2015

Ferndale is a first class property on the outskirts of Niton village. It is very homely and equipped with everything you would need for a comfortable holiday. the garden and views to the rear are lovely and extensive. there is a well stocked grocery shop, post office, pub, chemist and a few other shops in Niton a mile or so down the road.

“An island paradise”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2015

Our stay at Ferndale was really wonderful. It is a spacious, comfortable house with every facility would could ever ask for. The main bedroom has an absolutely stunning view of the downs from a huge, extremely comfortable bed. The kitchen is really impressive. The beautifully kept garden and fantastic adjoining meadow, with its wildflowers and butterflies were an added bonus. Set in the middle of the countryside the house is ideal for accessing the great network of local paths. Just a short drive to the beach and some great local pubs makes for an ideal location for this great house. We'll be back!

Thank you for your lovely comments - do come again soon!

“Lovely house, beautiful garden and surroundings, brilliantly equipped.”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2014

We stayed at Ferndale with our 2 year old and tiny baby. It's a challenging travelling with small children but arriving a Ferndale we breathed a huge sigh of relief as it was so well equipped and had more than enough of everything we could need. Our 2 year old was delighted to find toys and books to entertain her (saved us taking lots) and the garden was a delight to explore for her and full of lovely relaxing corners for us when they were both in bed! The house was comfortable, spacious, generous and very clean. It was very light and airy with huge windows giving spectacular views (beautiful from dawn til dusk and beyond!) and doors opening into the rather special garden but when the weather changed it was a lovely cosy place to be. The kitchen was roomy with plenty of stylish crockery etc to use if you had a full house and you had friends over for dinner in the dining room. Room for sandy beach stuff / wet weather gear in the garage and very convenient parking. Plenty of lovely walks to explore right from the door and lovely beaches, towns and villages just a short drive away. To top it all off at the end of the day - luxurious bed linen on really comfy beds. A great place for a small or large gathering. What a treat to have this lovely home to enjoy. Thank you for sharing!

“Lovely to be back at Ferndale again”

Our second stay in this lovely house; another very comfortable and pleasant week at Ferndale. We look forward to returning again!

“Ferndale was the perfect home for my stay with my two young grandchildren!”

Reviewed 7 May 2014

I stayed on the Isle of Wight with my son and two young grandchildren (4 and 7) The house was spacious, the bedrooms lovely, the living room so cozy! (We had a fire in the fireplace one chilly evening!) The views out of every window were spectacular - beautiful rolling hills and meadows. The kitchen had every appliance and utensil needed to make a gourmet meal! We would take lovely walks behind the house to visit with the sheep and lambs- which thrilled my grandchildren. Ferndale was located centrally so it was very easy to cover all the major attractions around the Isle of Wight. There is a little market in town that actually will deliver groceries! Patricia, the owner, made us feel so welcome through her warm and informative e-mails. We absolutely loved our stay at 'Ferndale!'

“The space of a house with the feel of a cottage!”

Reviewed 16 Nov 2013

We had 4 nights at Ferndale with 7 family members and found the house to be absolutely perfect for a larger group of people. All of the bedrooms were very comfy and well furnished. The views out the kitchen and living room windows make the interior feel spacious and full of light whilst still being a cozy spot if the weather turns ugly. We were lucky enough to get some sun during our stay and enjoyed one of the beautiful walks in the wood over the road. The house is a quick drive from Niton and 25 minutes to the ferry at Fishbourne. Easy! We will definitely be coming back, and can highly recommend Ferndale.

“Lovely, home from home, extremely well equipped house”

Extremely well presented and equipped house; best holiday cottage that I have stayed in. Peaceful location, plenty of space for all guests.
